...which album would best represent them

Why are the aliens asking you? Well they just happened to be passing and picked you at random, you just happen to be a RUSHIE mushie...

Although the aliens may relate to 2112, what with the spacey whooshing and such, I still had to go with Moving Pictures which is the best thing IMO to give to anybody (from earth or elsewhere) that wants to know about Rush.

I'm just disappointed that this poll doesn't have 20 additional options about jerking it.

I wanted to keep a clear focus in this poll...

If I wanted them to think Rush was a metal band, the choice is clear.

Basically the same question as "what's the best first album to give someone who's never listened to Rush before" which is a hard question for me, because I don't feel like there's any one album that perfectly captures Rush. There's been so many different sounds and styles across their whole career, any one album won't contain certain elements that are necessary to getting a good idea of what Rush is. I went through this myself a while ago when a friend asked me what album he should start with. I almost feel like a compilation might be the best choice. But to keep things simple, I would go with Moving Pictures, since it seems to be where so many have started with Rush, myself included, and it seems to do a good enough job of it.

I'd give T4E so they would go home and never come back.

What if they were offering the secret of free energy, interstellar space travel, artificial intelligence and matter-energy converting replicators?

the first album I thought of was 2112, even though it's probably my 4th or 5th favorite Rush album. It seems to best represent the mid-70's prog hard rock. i'm guessing 2112 probably turned more people onto Rush than any other album. I think the aliens would warm up to Rush quite a bit, especially the theme of side 1 ending with Solar Federations and all that.

If the aliens wanted to know about the METAL band Rush, I'd give them a copy of Tool's Lateralus. tongue.gif

If they didn't know anything about the English language and what words meant, T4E would be a fine choice.

But no...Really, I chose Moving Pictures. I think that's their album where they sounded the strongest regarding the "sound" of Rush. Plus, I think the aliens would dig the synth in Tom Sawyer and Vital Signs. icon_alienjig.gif

Then the oil companies, the government, Skynet( unsure.gif ph34r.gif ), and GE would kidnap them, learn their secrets, kill them, and then tell us those wonders are impossible and we need to keep buying their crap.
