Principled Man
For all you nature lovers, here's a link to a peregrine falcon cam, which is set up on the roof of where I work. We've had falcons nesting here for 3 out of the last 4 years. This year, we have FIVE hatchlings, which is a new record. Awesome birds! http://207.138.223.63/view/index.shtml http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120514_19-38-03.jpg The nesting box was built and placed on the roof of a grain elevator about ten years ago, but falcons didn't nest there until three years ago. Marvelous birds....they can dive to speeds of over 200 mph to catch their prey. Fastest animals on Earth. The only trouble is the bloody carnage they let drop all over the sidewalks from their nest. We get to clean up the carcasses.....oh joy..... Edited May 15, 2012 by Workaholic Man

ColdFireYYZ
That's really cool! I love falcons and other birds of prey. On the shore in Connecticut we have a bunch of ospreys. They set up a few nesting perches and it would be cool if they had a camera like this set up.
Principled Man
The babies are getting BIG! Five peregrine falcon chicks, and they're ALWAYS HUNGRY..... They get a regular smorgasbord.....mice, pigeons, sparrows, even a blue jay (yesterday). We suspect that they enjoyed some good rabbit, too.....(we found a rabbit ear)..... The mother feeds then at dawn and dusk...and several times inbetween, of course..... http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120521_19-19-15.jpg

Principled Man
I don't think we can call 'em "babies" anymore.... Pretty soon, they'll be totally free of their white down and ready to try flying. Hopefully, they'll be ready when Mother kicks 'em out for good!! http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-18-04.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-24-26.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-24-35.jpg http://207.138.223.63/view/index.shtml Edited June 12, 2012 by Workaholic Man
Principled Man
Looks like the young falcons are all but gone now. Only a couple are staying in the coop (what a MESS they've made!), with the others hanging outside the building. At least one has prematurely taken off and landed across the street, and isn't quite strong enough to get up in the air. We try to grab them and get them up on a roof to give them a chance.... In just five weeks, the peregrine falcon chicks went from tiny, white-downed creatures to majestic, ebony-feathered raptors. What an amazing bird...fastest animal on Earth.....their prey has little chance of escape!! We wish this group well and hope for another nesting in the spring. The falcons will go south for the winter, perhaps as far as South America, and then return to this very coop in Minnesota.....AMAZING. http://officialbridgeday.com/bridge-blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/peregrine-falcon.jpg
