Just what the world needed in the mid 70s, Hillbilly Prog. And they wonder why Punk happened...

"Hillbilly Prog"

Now that is classic!

Looks like I'm "Flirtin' With Disaster" in regards to this poll.

Tony R doesn't like Kansas because they're too riff-orientated ie too metal. Don't forget he comes from a time BEFORE metal! He's a 50s throwback! He likes more clean guitar tones, distortion is not his bag. Whether it's pop, folk, funk, glam, psychedelic, rockabilly, canterbury scene, rock n roll, new wave, power pop, jazz or blues, Tony likes it clean or maybe a wee smidge overdriven-dirty, but never, ever, ever deliberately pedal/rig distorted. Distorted guitar that's not music to him, he lumps punk, metal, fusion, hard rock, thrash, death metal, black metal, prog metal, all the distorted stuff in the same category and he avoids it like ebola in a crisp bag...

Well then it was time for STYX. To be honest I wanted to leave. I've seen Styx many times in my life and wasn't feeling it. However my wife wanted to stay and watch Tommy Shaw.

YEAH! Wendy, never, never, never skate out on a chance to see Tommy Shaw. Cute as a button and still the voice of an angel.

Back on topic:

I saw Kansas open on a triple bill last summer (Kansas, Foreigner and Styx), I was there to see Styx, Foreigner was a added bonus, and I didn't really care about Kansas.. what a surprise! They were fantastic, I was so impressed with them, they almost stole the show. They were excellent, I'd see them again in a heartbeat.

Leftoverture. What's on my mind is my favorite by them.

I can't believe your criticism of Steve Howe. The man simply doesn't botch solos. Never, ever, ever.

Shine!

I understand your love for Howe. Don't get me wrong the guy is a LEGENED. I love his guitar work. It didn't even dawn on me while I was watching YES perform. I thought Howe was doing well until the "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" solo. It was awful.

At intermisson I was talking to a buddy of mine. He has seen thousands of shows in his lifetime and writes reviews for a website. He is the Man dude.

He has seen YES like 62 times. He was the one telling me that Howe was hard to watch that night during his soloing.

Again, I wasn't paying much attention to it, but I believe my friend dude.

Maybe Howe was just having an off night. I don't know.

Just for the record I will admit that I love RATT, but they are done.

I would never go pay and see them now. Although I did enjoy the last RATT release I am sure Stephen Pearcy used Pro Tools to make his voice sound better because live his voice sounds like a fukking chainsaw going through a steel pole.

His voice is toast. So is Don Dokken's.

Hahahaha! That is classic Tony! See what I mean? This band is DONE.

I love Warren's chops and Bobby's drumming but that's about it.

This band was good with Juan on the bass and Robbin on rhythm guitars. JMO

I saw RATT two nights in a row in 1985 on their "Invasion Of Your Privacy" Tour! I thought they were great, but in all honestly back then I was more into the music rather than Pearcy's screeching drunk vocals!!

I've always been a big DiMartini/Blotz fan! Robbin never impressed me either!

After "Detonator" they should have detonated the band once and for all!

I love Point of Know Return! One of my favorite Kansas albums! (In fact, my first copy of it is on friggin' 8-TRACK!) (oy!)

Anyway....I've seen them a few times over the years (after the 80's "break up" only..and they are at their BEST when Robbie Steinhardt decides to tour with them....WOW! He makes such a difference in their overall sound!

I don't care for those two albums Steve was on, but to see him shred live in Kansas must have been a rare treat!

Hey I actually like the Power album Earl, the follow up disc was weak though...

Has anyone on this Forum ever seen a Kansas gig when Steve Morse was in the band?

I don't care for those two albums Steve was on, but to see him shred live in Kansas must have been a rare treat!

Once. Great show. You should give those albums another chance.

Also saw them once with Steve and it was a great show. I love the two Morse albums, especially Power.

Power DOES rock!
