Guitar players!

I've been avoiding this sub-forum because I never considered myself a musician. I had a Sebring SB300, a Korean strat copy. This one was jade green with a black pickguard and it looked beautiful. Unfortunately I hit a wall, and I just stopped playing. Five years ago, I sold my guitar and amp and hadn't touched a guitar since.

For some reason, over the past couple of years, something in the back of my mind kept telling me I wanted to learn and play. So lately I have been looking at different low to middle level guitars. A coworker suggested the Fender Standard Strat HSS. Considering that two of my favorite guitarists, Stevie Ray Vaughan and David Gilmour play Strats, it sounded like a good choice. Plus I have been thinking I want to learn how to play blues lead. Now, I realize that these specific models have been constructed in Mexico, but the word on them is that they have been constructed decently and sound good. Hey, you gotta figure that the country that gave us Mariachi and is the roots of Carlos Santana must know something about building guitars.

As much as I have been curious about Gibson models, namely the Les Paul and SG, they are out of my price range. I'm a bit leary of the newer Epiphone models of those styles as they are now being constructed in China and there hasn't been any word yet on their construction or accoustics.

So today, I got a good deal ($350) on what is now my new baby: a Fender Standard Strat HSS, Arctic White with a maple neck.

Yes, I know. I haven't taken the stickers off yet. But isn't it beautiful? With the pickup configuration it has, it should be versatile also.

Unfortunately, as it was closing time, the salesman gave me the wrong gig bag (bass) and forgot the tremolo bar. So I will have to go back there tomorrow and get the right bag.

What good is an electric guitar without an amp? The salesman also gave me a deal ($160) on a Vox AD15VT amp.

Nice little personal amp. Maybe not Marshall or Roland, but it should do fine for just personal playing. Cool part is that it's pre-amp section can duplicate one of eleven different popular tube amplifiers and it has eleven different effects.

Now if I can just learn how to play properly and continue to grow, maybe I'll stick with it this time.

ok, i usually stay away from these threads as most boards have it as a dick-waving contest to see who has the most/expensive gear.

but this thread seems civil enough. so.......low-res pics, but you get the jist.

heres a good overall view of my gear. well, most of it.

the two guitars on the bookends are my main guitars. and yes, i run my acoustic/electric through the Line 6, and it sounds amazing.

acoustic practice amp(coffee shop size places) and pedal board.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/resumption_19/NewPictures009.jpg

my amp settings. i wont tell you my exact settings, but i will say i do include a fair amounts of Mids.

and thats the main stuff. excluding my first guitar and my nylon string. and all the cases and stuff.

why yes you do. you do. Flextone III XL.

that thing is a dream. going from a Roland clean channel to a Mesa Channel is just.....mindblowing. and the delay options, chorus option. all my channels have the built in chorus. its amazing. warm, thick but not mushy and the highs are still high and not "jazz deep".

if i roll the volume back on my guitar, the Roland clean channel sounds close to an acoustic.

i've had this amp for about one month and am still finding amazing things with it. can't say enough about it. and LOUD as all hell. way loud.

Just an overall of the rig, before i wired it up, The head is a B-52 AT-100, and the case was custom built by the guys over at Calzone Cases. Its a awsome case. and the best part is the color... BRIGHT YELLOW!

Fresh out of the boxes, my Furman PL Plus II, DBX 266xl compressor gate, and my BBE 882i sonic max, next gear to go in will be a POD XT PRO, and a Lexicon MPX 110, and you ask why the MPX, because of the detune feature..

A very messed up practice spot. We practice at my dads appliance shop in the warehouse, its really nice, because we can play as loud as we want and nobody can hear us! plus matt has his other kit there so there is no setup with the drums

First post; 'sup?

My rig is as follows:

- Ibanez 7 string w/ Dimarzio X2N-7 and PAF-7 in it

- ESP (ltd) DV8-R

- Jackson SL-3 (or whichever the cheapest Soloist is); awaiting a new neck and Dimarzio D-Sonic, Pro-Track and Super Distortion S pickups

- A vintage Charvel with an EMG-81 in it, the truss rod has been shot for like 20 years, so I need a new neck for that too

- Cordoba Nylon String Acoustic guitar

- Ibanez Soundgear 5-string bass

AMP:

- Line 6 Vetta 1 head

- Line 6 FBV Shortboard

- Marshall MG-412 Cab, I plan on trading it in for a Marshal 1960's cab though. I hate my cab.

hey defrush, how is that B-52 amp?

I think B-52 is one of the best out there. They are Inexpensive, but yet they are built in Calafornia!!!! Its got great tone to it, you can get a nice blusey drive out of it all the way to a Mesa/Boogie Roadking tone out of it.

I must be a guitar junkie. Because today I went ahead and picked this one up.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k38/arndrake/lespaul.jpg

I remember stating before I was a little leery of the of the Chinese built Epiphones, but I read the reviews and figured, 'What the hell.' After all, they are being QC'ed and set up back in the U.S.

I played with this one for a while a few days ago, didn't buy it, went back yesterday, tried it out some more, and decided to go for it. It sounded pretty good and played pretty well too, as well as I can tell with my limited experience.

When I discussed getting it with my guitar instructor (I just started lessons on Monday), he suggested I get it. One comment he made is that you can upgrade parts, just like hot-rodding a car. I read some comments that some people replaced the AlNiCo pickups with BurstBuckers and got a sound close to the real LP.

Maybe some day if I become a very proficient musician and I have the money saved up, I may get a real Les Paul. Until then, I think this will do nicely.

I like the black as it compliments my white Strat nicely.

Hey gang, my guitars consist of:

1967 Gibson ES-335

2003 Fender Stratocaster (MIA variety)

2002? Danelectro DC-59

2001 Gibson J100

I often play through a PODxt for amp emulation, but I also have two modest amps; a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and a small Crate bass amp.

For effects, I only occasionally use a DeArmond Weeper (wah). I should get a good tube screamer for the Fender amp...

That 335 is one sweet guitar - probably the nicest I've ever seen!

PW, it always feels good when someone lauds an instrument of yours (if not your playing)! Only after I had it for a little while did I realize it has an unusually thick application of the black around the edges. Most sunburst 335s will have a thinner dark edge. But, lo and behold, Lerxst's very own ES-335 looked very similar. 653.gif

Well, that is a fine and uncommon guitar, and in amazing shape too! I friend of mine once had an identical one, but the finish had crackled a great deal. I believe it was a 68. He sold in it 1988 for $425. I suspect his butt is still bruised from where he must be kicking himself by now.

It's interesting the variance in colors from different years, especially on "burst" instruments. The width and shade of the fading from darker to lighter varies, I suspect with different people working the paint shop in those days. I heard a funny story about Rickenbackers having slightly different shades because for many years, they had a colorblind painter!
