Please say hello to Norman Thundercleese!

He is a rescue cat and he is 10 years old. He is a chunker who weighs in at 17 pounds!

He now has a purrever home!

The bugger does one thing out of the gate that is problematic. He try's to bolt for the front door whenever you open it. He made it out the first time we opened it so now we are aware. But he is an indoor cat so I don't understand why he wants out so bad? Its got my 15 year old daughter freaked out that he's going try and run out when she opens the door coming in from school in the afternoon.

What a handsome big guy! Hello, Norman Thundercleese! :hi:

Hi Norman!

I had an idea for my own cats as to how to keep them from bolting out the door. (Turns out I never needed to use it, but maybe it will work for you.) Have someone outside the door with a vacuum cleaner or other noisy device the cat does not like. Open the door a crack, so the cat can look out without escaping. Have the person turn on the vacuum (or make the noise) to scare the cat away. Repeat until the cat is afraid of the door.

My big worry is always that the indoor cats will get out and get lost :(

It was hard this morning for me to leave the house for work. I was the only one home and it was a chore to get him to back away from the door.

I feel for you! Emily suffered from separation anxiety when I adopted her, and she was prone to bolting out into the building hallway as I left the apartment. In attempt to keep her safely inside, I'd sprinkle treats and a toy as far as possible from the door then make a run for it myself. I also resorted to keeping the vacuum cleaner near the door as a back-up plan, and she only called my bluff once. In her case, though, it was primarily a matter of addressing the separation anxiety...as that diminished, thankfully so did her interest in rushing out of the door with me. I hope that Norman will soon realize that all of the cool stuff happens inside of his new home and lose interest in the door! :)

If this "quirk" happens at a certain time of day every day It could be that he wants to relieve himself or maybe it's "the call of the wild" though it could be just a case of "nice - to - get - out - of - the - house - now - and - again" thing !

He is an indoor cat and according to his records he always has been.
