gabpower
Hi RUSH fans! I'm a longtime RUSH fan too and it's my first post here. I'll be going to Toronto in three weeks and I wonder if there's any RUSH attractions to visit while I'm there like maybe the place on the cover of Moving Pictures or Lakeside Park if that place is still there... Anyone can contribute to make this trip of mine even better? Thanks!

gabpower
Where is that and what's the name of the place in the first picture? Can you also tell me what is the second picture? I don't get the Rush reference.
KillerInstinct
QUOTE (gabpower @ Jul 6 2010, 11:21 AM) Where is that and what's the name of the place in the first picture? Can you also tell me what is the second picture? I don't get the Rush reference. The first is the Ontario Legislature at Queen's Park. The second is Massey Hall, where ATWAS was recorded. KillerInstinct
Also, go visit Willowdale. There's a drum store there called Just Drums. Nothing Neil or Rush related, but still, kinda nice coincidence.
cygnus_thegodofbalance
If you want to go for a drive, hit up Port Dalhousie. That is the place that Neil is talking about in Lakeside Park, but it's about an hour and a half out of Toronto. Beautiful little place, though. I go there all the time. LERXST69
Have never been there, but there has to be an innersection called "Danforth and Pape" (2 streets).
RUSHHEAD666
When Wendy and I travelled there for the R30 Tour we hit The Orbit Room after the show. Lifeson owns half of the joint and it was a fun place to hang out and drink some beers with a ton of Rush fans. I think it's on College. Also check the Blue Jays schedule. We were lucky to catch a Red Sox Blue Jays game the next day. Skydome was awesome. Blue Jays beat Pedro Martinez that night, it was awesome! Atomic
Orbit Room IS on College, and worth a visit. As mentioned before, the Ontario Legislature in Queen's Park Circle (university/Wellesley) for Moving Pictures. Can't recall the street Massey Hall is on, but it's easy to find. Maple Leaf Gardens, where Rush played MANY shows is on Carlton Street. Pape and Danforth is interesting to see at Rush hour (pun intended) or on a Friday or Saturday night. I used to live two blocks from there. IIRC the boys went to Newtonbrook High School in willowdale, their public school is also mentioned in the DVD and is in the same hood. If you go to St. Catharines, they have flags up on the main streets with pix of notable people from the area. There's at least one of Neil up. Port Dalhousie and Lakeside Park are interesting places and well worth seeing (PD on a summer afternoon... patios, good food!)... I don't think the Gas Works is still around, , but the boys did lots of bars on Yonge, which is always worth a visit. Lamouroux High School is on Warden Ave., north of Sheppard Ave, IIRC and that's where Subdivisions was filmed. You'll recognize it from the vid immediately. TO has LOTS to offer. you'll enjoy it. AlainC
I had the pleasure to go to the Niagara region with my girlfriend who has her sister living in St-Catharines, how convenient ! We went summer 2008 and 2009. I checked for the most easy-to-find Neil Peart related places without looking for the "neil peart tour" or knocking on anyone's door but trough friends I met a person who went to school with him (who was actually kind of knowing him then, but lost him since) and it was a very interesting connection. I suppose everyone from that generation in St-Catharines can make up stories to spice conversations but he produced his yearbook from school with the pic of Neil Peart few pages past from his personal picture. It's a beautiful place and a wonderful region to visit, with Niagara Falls and all that 15 minutes away... Here is a little photo album for you to see I hope you'll like it : http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy9/Ala...ie%202008-2009/
AlainC
Good Pics MrKrinkle ! Thank you. Would love to visit Toronto more , last time we went to the CN Tower only and got off to St-Catherines. I take the same type of cloud pix all the time too, must be the Jacob's Ladder connection.

Xanadu93
I'm going to Toronto tomorrow (in Detroit for a Tigers game right now), and I want to see a few things. I don't have much time in Toronto so I can't see a lot... but I'll definitely be able to see the Ontario Legislative Building, Massey Hall, and take a ride down Yonge Street. (On Thursday I'll be able to visit Lakeside Park, so that's another Rush site.)

-D-RocK-
A trip to Toronto would not be complete without a visit to the CN Tower, where I'm sure Alex Lifeson has been countless times. Be sure to jump up and down on the glass floor like everyone else seems to do.

Oh and the Orbit Room is kick ass! Especially Thurs-Sat nights. I've heard that the Orbit Room is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Unless you really have to go to the bathroom, I'd stay away from the toilets. The only decent spot is the deck in the back, otherwise the bar itself gets too crowded. -D-RocK-
If you're going to the Orbit Room, go get some dinner first at anyone of the thousand plus restaurants along College St., and try to get there a little earlier. There's great live music almost every night of the week and the staff is very friendly. If you're looking to have a quiet martini or two than the O Room isn't the place. The deck is where all the smokers go cause you can still hear the bands. But unless you're a smoker or plan on bringing an iron lung out there, stay inside it gets crowded out there. I like being inside watching the live bands. They have some really good house bands that play there including Rush cover bands on certain nights. I haven't had a single complaint about the bathrooms and I've been there a fair amount since it's been open so I dunno where you're getting your information from.
