ILSnwdog
QUOTE (ashpkt @ Dec 31 2008, 12:43 PM) QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Dec 31 2008, 11:51 AM) Seriously, can they do any worse? They can go 0-16 TWICE !!! Seriously, the Lions have barely over a 20% Win Percentage for this MILLENIUM...no joke...look it up. It's hard to dispute that Millen is one of the all time worst football executives. In his entire career, I believe he only drafted one pro bowler (Shaun Rogers). Think about that. The Lions had at least 7 draft picks each season, and Millen over saw 8 drafts, so he drafted approx 56 players during those eight years, and only one made it to a pro bowl. Now that's bad. ILSnwdog
You know what I don't get? How is it that some football executives haven't figured out the receipe for success in the NFL. Look at the great teams in the NFL, and they all have great lines. Why have the Lions sucked all these years? Look at Millen's early round draft picks. Almost all of them were for wide receivers, running backs, quarterbacks, and linebackers. Very few linemen, offensive or defensive. If your O-line can't open holes and protect the QB, you can not win. If you D-line can't stop the run and put pressure on the QB you will not win. It's not a complex formula, yet some of these clowns still don't get it. Look at Parcells. He goes to the Dolphins and what does he do? Get Matt Ryan? No...he gets a stud left tackle to build his line around and then gets a serviceable Pennington, and now they are a playoff team.

In football if you have strong lines on both sides of the ball then you'll be successful. If you can't stop the defense from getting behind the line then no quarterback or running back will be any good. If you can't pressure the O line then you're behind the 8 ball. The lines are the foundation for successful football IMO.
