Hyperspace
QUOTE (Pyre_89 @ Mar 4 2005, 10:00 AM) Well the first song I learned was 2112 Overture. Of course, I also play the bass. . . By the by, do you know how hard it is to play YYZ? YYZ on bass is difficult. I mean, the intro is easy to play, but when you get to about the :35 point, it starts to get harder. I still haven't been able to get all the fills down.
vital signz
Hey..I agree with the above posts....I have learned most Rush songs on guitar and I really believe Passage to Bangkok, Working Man, Closer to the Heart, and New World Man are good places to start... Cygnus_X1
QUOTE (kazzman @ Mar 26 2005, 06:54 PM) QUOTE (Cygnus_X1 @ Mar 26 2005, 04:43 PM) QUOTE (kazzman @ Mar 26 2005, 01:33 PM) 2112 (trust me, once you get the time signatures down and the layout of the song, it's simple) YYZ (first Rush song I learned) Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer Red Sector A All on Drums Spirit of Radio is not an easy task on guitar!! My fingers just wernt made to move that fast on the main riff Did you by any chance read the very last thing I wrote in my post? Yes, but I was just stating the fact that I cant play Spirit of Radio on guitar. Nothing wrong with that is there?
thestand
If you want an addicting bass line, play Alex's intro for Passage to Bangkok on bass. I learned it about 2 months ago (I'm 14) and that's the first thing my fingers go to when I pick up the bass.
defrushfan01
I started playing Working Man, Then Bastille Day, Limelight, Driven, YYZ, One Little Victory, Earthshine, but the only songs I know in the entirity are OLV, YYZ, Earthshine. Disco
What You're Doing is as easy as pie, unless you confuse it with the almost identical Led Zeppelin song which I find tends to throw your timing out... Temples of Syrix is a breeze and good fun to play. Passage to Bangkok isn't going to trouble you for too long either. Also No-one at the Bridge is eay (once you work out you just slide your hand up and down for the main arpeggio(?) riff) Disco
Lerxstforever
I just started playing guitar about 5 months ago, and I found Temples of Syrinx pretty easy, and Discovery too, it moves pretty slow so its not that hard to get the hang of it.

_pete_
Most of the pre-Power Windows stuff is simple. The Power Windows/Hold Your Fire stuff is more complex than it sounds if you do it right. Lots of layered parts in there. Fly by Night, Best I Can, and In the End are pretty easy one along with about anything from the first album. Bastille Day and Lakeside Park aren't that tough either. Fridge
Presto is very easy. theonly tricky bit is trying to tweak your effects unit to replicate the sound of his nashville tuned guitar.
alphseeker
QUOTE (Quigley_Moog @ Mar 16 2005, 11:01 AM) The easiest Rush song to play is probably Xanadu. It is mostly chords with a slower solo than some of Alex's faster ones (I'm thinking Analog Kid has a difficult solo). I agree - Although it's a lot to remember it's very easy to play once you got it down - This is the song i have the most fun with when looping -
TNT on PMS
I don't know how to play the guitar, But nuthin Alex plays sounds really "easy" to play . I had a friend back in the day that used to be able to play Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta on guitar , and I used to jam on the drums , he had those two songs down pretty much,Not me though . . . I find Neils drumming hard to copy too the T all the way through . At some point I will fall apart , or he will just baffle me completely . But I'm havin the most fun trying to copy this band , than anyone else . I have never taken any lessons so they have really ben my only teachers . I would love to learn to play the Bass . Geddy as they all do , plays with so much passion . It's like they all tell a different part of the story in each song with their instruments to come together as one very tight .
