afansince74
Last month I had a "soft tissue graft" in my mouth, where they cut tissue off of the roof of my mouth and grafted it into a hole in my gums. It was the most painfull thing to deal with, after the surgery that is, during the 'recovery' time which lasted about 3-4 weeks! Nothing but brooths and lite soups for 2 weeks last time. And pain? OMG... as soon as the local wore off, it started hurting! The oral surgeon is an hour and a half drive away, so it was like 2 hours til I got someplace to get the pain medication! The worst drive in my life. Thank God my wife went with me... she wasn't at first, but did at the last minute. And now I'm doing it again, since the Dr. said the hole's not completely closed yet so we have to do it again! So I'm home this morning, then off to the Dr. at noon. Who knows if I'll get back on here later... or if I'll even remember to! This time I've picked up my meds from the Dr. early so I can take them ASAP when he's done! So I WILL be 'out of it' later on tonight (yes, I do mean MORE than usual), so in advance, I'd like to appologize for anything I may type that's a little 'off' or even 'way out there'... who knows how I'll be so, in advance, Sorry! Cygnus
Ask the Periodontist to do a Partial thickness flap, or if its a small defect try a Pedicle Flap, much less painful

afansince74
I think it's more that I know what's coming... last time I had no preconceived ideas of what to expect. I have a pretty high tolorence for pain, have had surgeries before, spent 4+ years in braces, so dentists don't bother me, nor does the surgery. But I'm either a lot less tolerant of pain now (not), or this proceedure just really hurts! Either way, doing it again sucks 'cause I know it's gonna hurt me again like last time! Man, I shoulda started drinking last night!
Schro
Ouch 74! I hope it goes much better this time. One thing's for sure - we'll all be thinking about ya over here at therushforum. Reminds me of a story I heard on the radio of a guy who didn't like going to the dentist. He said he would much prefer that, as soon as he arrives in the parking lot and opens the door, he gets hit with a tranquilizer gun. Then, a day or two later, he wakes up hunched over his steering wheel after everything's over. I can relate! Hang tough buddy! happysmiles007
oh man. i just had my wisdom teeth out a few months ago, all 4 were impacted (no clue what that means), & i slept for about 2 days after i got out of it. the worst part was, i couldn't eat, & it hurt like hell to take the gauze out. so i semi-know how you feel, but it prob hurt much worse for you, since you had to get it from the TOP of your mouth..can't imagine what it must've felt like! here's hoping this time's a little better.. Spike
Best of luck with the reovery - I hope it heals properly this time. I had some oral surgery a few years back, so I know what you're going through! I didn't realize how big a deal it was, so I drove myself the first time. It was a tough drive back home - don't know how I didn't get into an accident. I also had to have a repeat procedure since it didn't heal correctly. That time, I did have a chaffeur!! Take the drugs - lots of drugs!!
afansince74
Thanks everybody! I'm leaving in the next 5 minutes, so I as soon as I can, I'll post here... or maybe I'll force my wife to do it! That'll get her on the board! Anyway, thanks Cygnus, I'm gonna ask about the 'flap' thing! Schro, I'll be waiting in the parking lot till you get there... shoot at will, my friend! HS007, It was the not eating thing for me too, and you're right... the top of the mouth is MUCH worse than anywhere else! And Spike... no question this time... I'm already pre-medicated!!!!! MagicWand
Just wanted to update you on AFS74. Hi, I am his wife I don't post very much, but wanted to fill you in. I have read all of your posts, and he really appreciates all you thoughts and prayers. He is doing well, somewhat better than we expected, thanks you drugs!!! He is still in quite a bit of pain, poor guy. Got lots of stitches. I took some pictures of both places and WOW. It looks horribly painful. We went over to Best Buy after and he did okay till the novacaine (sp) wore off. Then we went straight home (a 1 hour trip) and he has been resting ever since. I figured I would come in here and try to post an update, I am not very good at this sort of thing, so it takes me a bit longer. Hope this comes out right. I have only posted a couple times and had help. I will update on the patient tomorrow, or he will ... if he is able Thanks again for all the good wishes.
