Huck
Hi everyone, thanks for all your help suggesting my next Rush CDs 2112 and/or Power Windows next I think But can you offer me any advice on which is the better live CD for me to catch up on recent Rush Stuff, Different Stages or Rush in Rio? Cheers
madra sneachta
I'd say Different Stages - 3 CDs (one vintage stuff from Hammersmith Odeon in the 70s), good song selection, better sound than RIR and most of 2112 live.
RushRevisited
RIO!!!!

Cygnus
Rio because it includes songs from Vapor trails. But I suggest both.

The Notorious B.S.G.
I prefer Different Stages due to the superior sound quality and the priceless 3rd CD. The bass on Bastille Day is among the coolest sounds I've ever heard.

Snowdog
Both are essential releases in the Rush catalog. Get them both if you can. If you can't afford the $ for both, then my money would go with RiR.
rickyrob
Both, but I'd say RiR just over DS, especially if you want the newer material. Play By-Tor/Cygnus X-1/Working Man LOUD!... oh yesss!
Drumnut
Get the Rio DVD, and Different Stages CD then Rio CD. Just my opinion.
yyzyy
DIFFERENT STAGES!!! Much better sound quality to me anyways....It sounds so thick! Like bassy and loud! Personally I'd go with DS
sfuentes
Different Stages, definitely. It has a better setlist and drum solo, in my opinion. It also has a recording of Rush in London at the Hammersmith Odeon in '78. If I were you, I would get that. Rush In Rio is still very good, but I don't think that it is quite as polished as Different Stages.
Snowdog
QUOTE (sfuentes @ Jan 10 2005, 06:57 PM) I don't think that it is quite as polished as Different Stages. that's exactly why I like RiR more, it isn't so polished

NeilPeartFan2112
Eh, hard to say. I mean, Different Stages has so much more song variety, and they play the full version of 2112 live. Rush In Rio on the other hand has a sweet DVD and you can watch it or listen to it. Tough choice for me, can't go either way on this one. I gotta call it a tie. afansince74
Good points by everyone here! Your question was: ...can you offer me any advice on which is the better live CD for me to catch up on recent Rush Stuff... Well, I'll tell you this... the only difference between Different Stages and Rush in Rio, as far as "recent stuff" is concerned, is RIR lacks anything off of Vapor Trails. So, depending on just "how recent" we're talking here, RIR gives you the most recent songs available (but there's only 3 of them off of VT!). And seeing that DS has 39 tracks(40 on the Jap release) vs. RIR's 31, you are getting more songs with DS.... however, 11 tracks on DS(the entire 3rd disc) are all their older stuff, recorded in the late 70's! So, that makes it just about an even wash, now that I think of it! So, DS gives you more songs for your $, but RIR gives you the most up-to-date, recent sound, as well as material. All that being said......... Oh H*ll! Just buy 'em both and be done with it!

I really love the sound on Different Stages. The quality of the album is superb. Good choice!
Huck
Both are looking good Different Stages seems like the best option, especially with the Kings tour bonus Cd, but more newer stuff is on Rio + the mad crowd and then there's the DVD mmmm
BigG
Put me down for Different Stages... Rush remembering they're a rock band again and song like Test for Echo which are pretty lame and polite really rock There's so much on DS that'll you'll be listening to it forever. You couls always hire RiR DVD to check it out.
Cygnus27
The production of DS blows RIR away. But in the end, both are necessary!
