Chasartymac
I'm still on my first digital camera, (Fuji A203). It's OK. All the piccys of me and NPG were taken with it. It's only 2MP with a 3 x optical zoom. f=5.7 - 17.1 mm
barney_rebel
My first camera is middle of the road, good quality name brand camera: Canon Elph SD110. Not great stats, but very tiny. 3.2 MP, 2x Zoom. I want a kick arse camera in a couple of years for sure!

Having seen the results of 2MP do you think it's sensible to really aim above 3 or 4 MP to get decent pictures tho? I've seen some coming out now with 5MP. barney_rebel
QUOTE (Chasartymac @ Dec 20 2004, 01:54 PM) QUOTE (barney_rebel @ Dec 20 2004, 06:45 PM) My first camera is middle of the road, good quality name brand camera: Canon Elph SD110. Having seen the results of 2MP do you think it's sensible to really aim above 3 or 4 MP to get decent pictures tho? I've seen some coming out now with 5MP. I would say so, yes. The difference between 2MP/4MP seems quite a lot. But these days, if you're gonna buy new, I'd say 5MP is the minimum, unless you don't want to fork out a lot of $$$. But the price difference between the two isn't that big. But overall, I think the issue is if you want big pictures to be printed. 1024x768 pics I take look pretty good, 640x480 pics are look exceptional. I do find a nice zoom (optical, forget digital) is a great feature, which is the biggest feature the camera is lacking. That's what happens if you buy a small camera with a small lens. Big zoom will not happen. I was looking for a trade-off, I wanted the compact size. I love this model so much (been replaced by a newer one that has better zoom a month ago grrr, for the same price too) - I may replace it with the better camera, same line when I do get a new one. barney_rebel
RR's APOD gave a good idea. For now on, as much as I can - I'll display a photo of the day from my art site. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18105511/ Now this is a Kodak moment if I ever saw one. Good catch on more ways than one!

barney_rebel
QUOTE (D-13 @ May 11 2005, 09:47 AM) Anyone know how good the Canon EOS Digital Rebel is? Rebel you know? Ultimately, I can see myself buying a Rebel... Take a look at Zeebra (he's a friend of mine from work) http://zeebra.deviantart.com/gallery/ The camera is THAT good. The price is really dropping now too ( expect the middle model to be about $600 Cdn by the summer). Only thing I don't like about SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras is that it takes CF (Compact Flash) RAM. That kind of ram isn't as compatible as SD.
