liquidcrystalcompass
QUOTE (Sodoff Baldrick @ May 22 2006, 03:40 PM) So who's the next person remotely in contention, Griffey? A-Rod is only 29 or 30 and should reach 500 sometime next year. He'll pass (barring injury) Griffey for sure.
anagramking
A-Rod should break the number if he stays healthy. The other real candidate is Albert Pujols. Manny Ramirez is already 33, so he's probably not going to get there. Griffey is too injury prone to get to the number.

I would give Pujlos another five years before he's brought into conversation. We all know what injuries can do.

The Gangster of Boats
I'd like to see Pujols make it. If he is playing clean (NO ROIDS) there will be fanfare when he makes 714. There will be much joy in Mudville if he breaks Bonds* single season record.
rushgoober
Yeah, I don't think there would be much of anyone who would be displeased with Pujols breaking Bonds' records, other than Bonds himself that is.
liquidcrystalcompass
There is a good chance of that happening. That would be ironic. Pujlos breaks Bonds's single season HR record in just a few months after the Babes's career total was passed. I like it.
rushgoober
Pujols is exactly on pace after 44 games to hit 81 homers. I still think it's a longshot, cause that's a helluva pace to keep up all season, literally one home run every other game. If anyone can do it, Pujols can, but only time will tell. One has to imagine that he's gonna see more and more intentional walks as the season goes on, and that will make it even tougher. Then again, Bonds got 73 under those circumstances, so it can be done....
Drumnut
Bonds Passes Babe With Home Run No. 715 * QUOTE SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Bonds stands alone at No. 715. He hit the milestone home run with a two-run shot to center field Sunday, moving past Babe Ruth into sole possession of second place on the career list behind Hank Aaron. apnews.myway.com
doubled_mystic
Bonds may go down as the most reviled player in the history of the game, and if the grand jury and mlb investigation go correctly, hopefully he won't be allowed in to the Hall of Fame (if he gets convicted of using roids, and they let him in, Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson better be going in on the same ballot). It is a real shame, Bonds prior to his taking roids (allegedly anyway) was going to the hall, and probably would be among the top 20-30 to have ever played the game (perhaps even crack the top 10, but no chance the top 5- Cobb, Ruth, Williams, Dimaggio, and Mays). It is actually kind of funny though, in 98 Selig and everyone else was rejoicing because the longball brought people back to baseball, but now we find that is tainted, and another longball chase may drive people away from the game. No matter what Bonds does, he'll always have this cloud over all of his acomplishments, and forever more will have people questioning just how good he really was or would have been.....a far cry from being listed with the best of the best of the best......
