Brazilian jazz musician and band leader Sergio Mendes passes away at 83 after a long battle fighting the effects of covid.  I remember his band Brasil '66 and their takes on Dusty Springfield's The Look Of Love and The Beatles Fool On The Hill.  Rest well, Sergio.

Just heard Never Gonna Let You Go recently.  I often listen to Casey Kasem archived shows on iheartradio for nostalgic reasons and it was played for some 1983 broadcast.  Oddly enough, that's the year being covered for this week on Sirius XM 80s Big 40 Countdown so if it was on at the time, the news might be mentioned by Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood or Alan Hunter.

Always gonna associate it with an old Michelin commercial, though.  RIP

Looked at the 1983 website and it had just dropped out of the top 40 in August after peaking at number 4 during the long reign at the top by 3 men with badges with that song about stalking.

One of the first songs I remember hearing as a kid around parent’s radio and MTV.

I'd forgotten that one.   Bossa Nova became a big thing and they were a part of it.This is the first one I ever heard and it led me on to some great Brazilian artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Tania Maria.   RIP :rose:
