Mick

Lady Gaga has three albums better than the latest Lukather.

And well...she kinda has become a legend.

Yeah same. Its odd to think that's their signature tune as generally speaking it doesn't represent their sound AT ALL

This is true

Same as ‘Africa ‘ for Toto - despite being the first song by Toto most folks hear - it doesn’t represent the band’s excellent catalogue  of AOR/Melodic Hard Rock at all ! 🙃🤣

Luke quite rightly regularly states that from

Toto IV - Rosanna is a fair better representation of this music.

Especially the full album version where Paich & Luke jam and trade ace bluesy yet melodic improvised licks at the end ! 😎

I love Africa. It was one of three songs that got me into Toto.

If I had heard some deeper cuts i now love more first, never would have bothered

Yeah Africa is their most (over) played radio song and I don’t really hate it quite as much as Mick ! 🙃🤣😉

I just much prefer Rosanna & Hold the Line and 95% of their deep cuts

You know Luke is a ‘proper legend’ so stop fighting it !

It is an odd song. I find it charming but when I remind myself it's an all time smash hit...it feels weird.

I feel the same about Tom Sawyer. Like...of all the songs in the world THAT is the song non-fans know

🤔 mind you Segue I think Tom Sawyer

is a better reflection of :rush: than

Africa is of Toto.

I’m just glad that neither Tai Shan nor Madigral for example aren’t Rush’s best know song by non-fans ! 🙃🤣

there's very few toto songs i hate but Africa's one.......and King of the World.

When i first heard Africa as a little kid i was like

"uh.......why are they singing i guess the plane's down in Africa and why did they leave the plane there?"

true story:laugh:

Survivor never made a bad album IMO.  but my two favs are Vital Signs and When Seconds Count.

Thoes are with their 2nd singer Jimi Jamison.

If you want a fantastic one with original singer Dave Bickler.  Check out Premonition.

Mick

Thanks!!  I will.

Speaking of Tom Sawyer:

Rush- Moving Pictures

The older I get the more this looks to be a contender for all time fave. With my love of Lacuna Coil fading somewhat, MP joins The Blackening by Machine Head, Third Eye Blind by Third Eye Blind, Ten by Pearl Jam and Born To Run by Springsteen as a contender for my top spot.

Gosh it's just so FLAWLESSSSSS

Masterplan- Masterplan

Masterplan- Aeronautics

Masterplan- Mk II

Masterplan are frequently categorised as power metal. I honestly don't agree. To me, they sound like if Alter Bridge came from Europe. The hooks are massive, the vocals are second to none, the playing is exquisite and their is a real classic rock mixed with eighties arena metal stomp to them. I am shocked they are so unknown, they definitely rank as a new favourite of mine.

I believe they are playing the Wacken festival this year.

Glad you mentioned them originally.  I checked them and really enjoyed them.  I recall you said something like they were part AOR, part Power Metal, part Prog Metal - that fit them well.  Need to find the time to check them out again.

I love them. I feel the first three albums are the best, especially the debut.

A classic in Never Surrender and a greatly underrated album in Surveillance.  Even at the time it did not get a lot of airplay but it should have.  Its got a number of really good songs.

Triumph should be a household name but the fact that they arent makes all their stuff underrated. but that word is overrated
