RushFanForever
Posted from The Tennessean below. 'Polk Salad Annie' songwriter Tony Joe White dead at 75 I enjoyed the 2014 appearance of both Tony Joe White and The Foo Fighters on David Letterman performing 'Polk Salad Annie' here together.
goose
Despite the spelling of the song title, I believe it's "poke" salad, not "polk", as in "poke sallet". For the botanically curious... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phytolacca_americana#In_music Great song, immortalized by the King, of course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4csFnpZXek Edited October 26, 2018 by goose
blueschica
Awww, RIP Tony Joe White. When we were kids we loved to hear "Gators got your granny. . ." Such a distinctive gravel voice, I liked it.

RushFanForever
In a way, Tony Joe White wrote the majority of his songs in the same key of E with the swampy blues vibe. The late bluesman John Lee Hooker did the same thing in a way. Below is my current favorite Tony Joe White song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA3PVW0hZq8 Edited October 27, 2018 by RushFanForever
Hunted Witch
I never made the connection before between pokeberries and poke salad. For a long time, my sig online was A mean, vicious woman. Nobody got it.

OldRUSHfan
My Buddy next door had CKLW [Radio Station] Solid Gold Vol. 2 vinyl, that had this song on it. So I've known this song almost as soon as Tony Joe Wrote it! Never heard it on that Radio station, either. R.I.P. Tony Joe White!
