  2. Eddie has come out and said that the intro and subject matter for "Pleasure Dome" was inspired by "Xanadu." And if anyone saw them on the 07-08 tour, Alex's drum solo had all the horn cues that Neil's has

  5. QUOTE (SheriffJohnBrown @ Apr 22 2005, 05:55 PM) 1. the word "mellotron" causes a strange tingling in your private parts. 2. you refer to Yes' lead singer as "the holy prophet Jon Anderson." 4. you love the albums "Invisible Touch," "90125," and "Love Beach", but are ashamed to admit it. 7. you believe the talent of a drummer is commensurate with the size of his drum set. 10. you look down on any keyboardist who is "not willing" to haul around a real Hammond B3. 11. you prefer Bruford to White, noting with knowing condescension that "groove and feel are way overrated." 15. the prefix labels of "Cantebury", "melodic", "symphonic", and "neo" before the word "prog" all simply mean "sucky". 16. you've named all the fish in your aquarium the names of past and present Yes members. 19. you regularly set aside "me time" to listen to Tales from Topographic Oceans in its entirety. 25. you believe a bassist isn't even worth a derisive chortle if he doesn't own a Rickenbacker. 26. you actually know what a Warr guitar is. 27. you find yourself labeling most current Prog as "derivative", yet you secretly pine for Yes to record "Close to the Edge II".n. 31. you've danced to "Tom Sawyer." 32. you're unwilling to admit that Zeppelin was a prog band. 41. you know what Taurus Pedals are. 47. you principally condemn house/dance music (because any sound generated by a computer can never be music) but secretly compare the soundstyles on [insert any hit] to [insert any keyboard player]'s playing on [insert any record here]. 54. you believe that prog's heyday will single-handedly be resurrected by the Chapman stick. 56. you believe that playing keyboards without a cape is a crass and disrespectful mockery of the craft and prog genre in general. 65. your boss has started questioning the upper-case 'K's before every 'c' in your memos... 67. you've ever taken your drummer shopping for cymbals 'cause his kit looks bare with less than a dozen. 70. you prefer the vinyl mastering of Fragile to the remastered CD Holy crap! I didn't notice how bad I was until I read this
  6. QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Jan 25 2012, 01:57 PM) QUOTE (mstmompj @ Jan 25 2012, 07:14 PM) Hemispheres is one of the few albums on which I absolutely love every single song (OK there are only 4 songs, but still). Most albums have at least one I have to skip. My one tiny quibble is the lyric, "We will call him Cygnus the dove . . ." I understand thematically why the name needs to be Cygnus, but from the ornithological standpoint, it's a clunker. It would have worked better to go ahead and associate a swan with the idea of balance, IMO. But then I'm the kind of person who gets irritated when lyricists use the wrong declension or conjugation and I can seldom fault Neil on that front, at least. The dove? I thought it went "We will call you Cygnus, the God of Balance you shall be". You are correct, though, I've mistaken a lot of Rush lyrics myself
  7. Ones immediately to mind are Cream and Armageddon (Keith Relf's post Yardbirds band). Armageddon's 1975 debut is definitely worth checking out
  8. I'd have to say the worst was Megadeth in 2009. Megadeth, Machine Head and Arcanium were all great but the band that brought the show down a tad was Suicide Silence. They were just terrible. I honestly don't see how that hardcore crap is popular
  9. Vapor Trails, easy. TFE and S&A are good but TFE is a little bland and S&A is a little slow. VT is emotional, heavy and the closest thing to being a dud on the album is "The Stars Look Down"
  10. QUOTE (TheAccountant @ Jan 4 2012, 07:47 PM) In short, all 3 are really good albums. Want some stinkers? Try self titled, Caress of Steel and VT. (IMO that is) I respect your opinion but the debut, Caress Of Steel and Vapor Trails are all in my top 9. I never saw the big deal with Middletown Dreams. I'm going with Presto.
  11. To her defense, that specific recording is transposed up a couple half-steps. The actual recording is much more tolerable, but still pretty bad.
  12. 13. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Dec 10 2011, 01:05 PM) I've wondered if (especially Geddy) has thought about letting his hair grow out, but kept dying it because he didn't want to be in that "in-between" stage (and with the length of his hair, it would be a while). I figure there's going to be a point soon where he'll look more natural letting it grow. Having said that, I still can't get used to Brian May of Queen with snow-white hair now. It still surprises me every time! Now that guy dyes his hair. When I saw Queen in 2006 his hair was brown like it had always been.

But, that has to be one of the dumbest band names of all time. Trust me. They SUCK. They have one song that I tolerate and even that one is a big meh.

Seriously? He's one of the best of all time +1 Sting is great! Dring the Police years, he was a little hard to take but by the time Synchronicity came out, he developed a great voice. Hes great tenor Yea. That's why I mentioned Outlandos D'Amour. It sounds like he's trying to sound like Jon Anderson but by the time Synchronicity came out, his voice was fine. And Billie Joe Armstrong sounds like he's trying to be a tool Outlandos is some of his best IMO of course But some of the notes and emotion in Roxanne and So Lonely is incredible. Billie is a TOOL! Maynard's voice is awesome though! LOL! I know a lot of people hate Les Claypool's voice but to me he is GOLDEN! STING rules bottom line. I love his voice with the acoustic guitar on the solo song "Fragile." Brilliant. I was thinking about putting Les Claypool but his voice fits so perfectly with his music and I love Primus . And I love The Police and Outlandos D'Amour, just the vocals are sometimes cringe-worthy. No different from what some guys on here think of Geddy. Another one to add to the list. Shaant Hacikyan of Cute Is What We Aim For .

QUOTE (ghostworks @ Aug 25 2010, 07:35 PM) QUOTE (Jake2112 @ Aug 25 2010, 07:29 PM) Adrian Belew (King Crimson... the man can write songs though) nah, Adrian is fine in fact, he's the best vocalist KC have ever had a nice mix of Todd Rundgren and David Byrne (without the schmaltz of the former or the aloofness of the latter) I guess. I've always been very partial to Greg Lake though, no matter how FAT he is now
  23. Oh, jeez.... Alanis Morrisette Tom DeLonge (Blink-182, Angels & Airwaves) Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) Justin Bieber Miley Cyrus Jon Bon Jovi Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) John Payne (Asia) Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz) Jesse Lacey (Brand New) James LaBrie (Dream Theater) Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses) Joe Satriani (his voice isn't annoying, it's just bad) Adrian Belew (King Crimson... the man can write songs though) Kim Mitchell (Max Webster.... idk, his voice on "Battle Scar" is meh) Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet... it's like fake British) Sting (The Police, especially on Outlandos D'Amour, the songs are great though) Roger Taylor (drummer for Queen) Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow) Meg White (The White Stripes) Chris Squire (Yes ) Is that long enough?
  24. QUOTE (thelocator @ Aug 20 2010, 10:02 PM) I don't get the concept of this, so maybe someone could quickly explain what this is going to be... In my estimation, Roger Waters' voice and bass playing and stage presence is completely SHOT... So, what is this going to be? If he puts together what he did in the early 90's when the Berlin Wall came down, then everybody is in for a good time... He filled up a roster of All-Star talent who all grabbed the various roles in The Wall storyline, and these outside, non-PF, talented performers pretty much carried the entire show...Very similar to what The Who did with Tommy around the same era. If Roger Waters has set up something like this, then whoever has purchased tickets for this might be looking at a satisfying experience. But, if it's just his old, boring, non-musical self trying to sell The Wall, then its a debacle in the making that I wouldn't even dream of attending... So, what is it? Can anyone confirm that Roger has an All-Star cast on board for this thing? I have no idea about an all star cast. But he is recreating the original The Wall stage production from the 79/80 tour
  25. Well you gotta remember, they were drunk as hell off of the white/red wine. Best part of the DVD.
