  1. I admit, I whipped it out and gotta take the leak and I really really like "The Garden". Cool!
  2. Uh huh huh huh, I um, like the bass geetar on that thar song!
  3. Seven Cities sounds killer. Kind of reminds me of the middle section of "Speed of Love"
  4. Yup, its touring he doesnt like. What they should do is open up a Rush venue somewhere that they play and only there and fans would have to travel to IT instead of them traveling to fans. (of course I am being facetious)
  5. I dunno, I searched and alot of these "leaked" torrents were created months ago, probably before they even finished any of the songs. Beware.
  6. This better not be a torrent filled with Rick Astley's greatest hits...uh, hit.
  7. I am going. First time since S&A.
  8. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Apr 19 2012, 10:39 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Apr 19 2012, 09:34 AM) QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Apr 19 2012, 09:24 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Apr 19 2012, 09:13 AM) I wont say I hate it because for me of course its better than something like Dog Years, but Im definitely not digging it at all. Not giving up on the album though. If this is the worst song on the album that would be great for me. Im just not the kind of Rush fan that can convince myself everything they write is great. This doesnt sound great to me. I certainly don't think "everything they do is great." But this is! Different strokes for different folks, I guess. And I too would be happy if this was the worst song on the album... because I freaking LOVE IT, and if the rest of the album is EVEN BETTER, well, I may just have a coronary. Like I said, its really not so much the music and the playing, that's all ok, but its the vocal melodies that are just really bad. I saw this from some guy on facebook and said it about as well or better than I could. "I loved the musicianship, and I'm never disappointed by this. Never. However, I have to say that all the songs from Clockwork Angels thus far seem to lack an accessible vocal melody. Its feels a lot like they aren't in any plan or form at a...ll sometimes (not always, but for a huge majority of the songs). I noticed this particular trend starting with Vapor Trails where vocal melodies just started to lose their hook and jive. Compare the 3 songs to any classic Rush album and tell me these vocals aren't complete chaos. Don't get me wrong, the hard stuff is splendid. The longer pieces of old has been the stuff of Rush dreams, but if I can't start singing along because the vocal melodies make no sense, then I just can't get along with it." As a singer myself, the thing that causes melodies to be bad is rushing them and not giving them the time and love they need. It really does take effort and everyone is capable of it, but it takes time. Well, okay, I can agree with you somewhat. I've been saying for years that I'd like to hear Rush experiment more with vocal melodies. Mess around more with the long (legato) and short (staccato) of syllables, words, and phrases. It makes for a more interesting song, and a more enjoyable one to SING. Many Rush fans play guitar, bass, or drums, and like to "air" along with those instruments while listening to Rush... but ALL Rush fans like to sing along to the vocals! So, wouldn't it be to the song's betterment and perhaps even the success of the band to have more "interesting" vocal melodies? Thing is, though, that vocal melodies have never really been the band's strong suit to begin with. There've been certain moments and certain songs throughout their career where the vocal melodies were strong, but overall not so much. So, crying about the lack of strong vocal melodies in a Rush song is like crying about the lack of an accordian: it's not there, but has it really ever been? I still love the song. I'm sure I'll be singing along to it in the car, despite the vocal melody not being Earth-shattering. That's just Rush. Meanwhile, the freaking bass is INCREDIBLE and the arrangement is interesting and the song ROCKS HARD! I tend to agree that the vocal melodies have never been their strongest element. Yes they do have lots of songs with great vocal melodies but overall, its not what I consider their trademark. I love HF and Caravan for that matter, but one thing I have noticed is that these songs have gotten heavy and more complex and almost fatiguing to listen to because they never let up. That, and it does sound like they developed the music way before the vocals and are trying to find a spot over the top. Overall, I am digging them though!
  9. Im a graphic designer and I agree it looks like a 19 years old's first Photoshop project in college. I dont know if it was actually hand painted in oil on canvas but I could have done that in PS in 2 minutes. I will say alot of the others I have seen also look like crap too, like taking a photo of a gear and putting the watercolor filter on it and calling it a cover design...blech
  10. I love it. I first heard it and went "woah, thats heavy!" I admit I thought the vocal melody wasnt "hummable" (if thats a word) but I love the music. Hearkened back to "old Rush" IMHO.
  11. Being in a gigging band (a cover band and obviously we are no where near their level), I can say there are always tons of mistakes at our gigs. 99.9% of the people there wouldnt know the difference. But it does illustrate the "perfection-mania" us Rush fans have.
  12. I think Signals as well. Remember though, Signals started out as Geddy's solo album so its no wonder it was so much different at the time.
  13. There are some good songs on that album, but like was said earlier, it ranks toward the bottom of my fav Rush albums. That is still miles better than most other bands/musicians though. Like was also said, if it sounded like Counterparts, I think alot of people would rank this alot higher. I guess the same could be said for Presto.
  14. I love the song but dont like the video at all. As a matter of fact, I dont like any of their in-concert videos either (except lil Rush lol). Like the Time Machine video of them in 1974, or any of them where they are trying to be funny. Its like they just miss the mark and go on forever. Its not really their forte now is it?
  15. Animated Mullets! And, I really hope there are sexy half shirted maidens prancing around after the apocalypse.
  16. IMHO, the best drum tone he got was on Moving Pictures. Just...natural and powerful. I also think that on Counterparts he got a great drum tone as well.
  17. If he chose not to decide, he still has made a....ahhh c'mon, someone had to do it! Anyway, I dont think he can consistently hit the high notes anymore and its a natural byproduct of aging. I think the music changed after Hemispheres and the cat with its ass on fire screech didnt fit anymore. Its ok with me and when they have to drop tune for older songs, Im ok with that. Im in a couple of cover bands and my singers have to do it all the time in order to do the songs.
  18. QUOTE (reani14 @ Feb 19 2012, 06:30 PM) question? does geddy even use picks??? still No, no he does not.
  19. Please give me your criteria for being the "best" musician. And, what qualifies you to make that judgement? Its not a sporting event, its an art. Once you get to a certain level that alot of the guys on that list are on, there is no "best".
  20. Yeah he sounds better on S&A than TM for sure.
  21. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 11 2012, 01:51 AM) Dave Navarro speaking live from his car - cool! That video link already has over ONE THOUSAND views! Jan Wenner and the folks on the RRHOF nominating committee must be shitting their pants right now - game on! Ah, I jest, but it is cool. I do believe they'll get in eventually. Rush dont give a ratsass about the RRHOF and that manass-sniffer Jan Wenner, and I wouldnt either if I were them. Means nothing and if they ever do get "nominated" and inducted, I bet they decline to participate.
