  1. I thought his echo-ey heavily processed tone on the ASOH video worked great for La Villa. Its still my favorite version of the song out of all of them including the original studio cut
  2. I'd be surprised. I don't believe it sold all that well or was considered too good when it was new
  3. Just played bass along to Show Don't Tell & Superconductor
  4. I liked how many years later Geddy was commenting on those huge eyeglasses he had in the early 80s: "Why was I wearing those? They're eating my face!" Lol
  5. I've always loved Superconductor. I don't understand the drubbing it gets from some around here and Rush fans in general
  6. I can't think of any songs on Signals with acoustic guitar either

    Rupert Hine RIP

I never understood his criticism of Geddy's singing because as far as I'm concerned, he stopped "screeching" around Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures. I can't name a single song on GUP/PW/HYF where he's singing really high the whole song
  8. I was never crazy about his solo in A Farewell To Kings
  9. TFE had a fuzziness to the sound I didn't like. Alex's choice of guitar distortion was a big culprit
  10. Every album onwards starting with Test till the end of the road Clockwork was highly flawed and only contained a handful of songs each that were either great or very good. A ton of mediocre to poor songs on each of those last four studio albums along with dodgy producing and sound
  11. Faithless/Bravest Face/Good News First is the unholy trilogy of yuckaroo crud from late period Rush. And in my opinion, why hiring a big fanboy like Nick R to produce was a mistake because I highly doubt he would've had the balls to tell them those songs were lackluster at best
  12. First time I heard Best I Can I was expecting to hear "You can kiss my ass" after "You can tell me that I've got no class, look around..." Lol
  13. I rarely listen to any of the live albums past Rio. The opening medley of R30 perhaps.
  14. RTB, original VT and Clockwork are the three Rush albums I simply can't sit through start to finish largely because of the sound: RTB for being so thin weak early 90s dated and gutless and VT/CWA for being distorted brickwalled layers & layers of guitars Geddy choir overload
  15. Ghost of a Chance has one of Alex's best guitar solos
  16. The fadeout to Lock & Key has a very similar chord structure to the chorus of The Body Electic

    Open Secrets?

I've always liked to pretend that Tai Shan and High Water were two bonus extra outtake songs tacked on to the end with the real official last song being most appropriately Turn The Page
  18. As far as Vapor Trails goes, I was surprised they didn't play the title track on that tour. Maybe they thought it wouldn't translate well live or too many backing vocal tracks to deal with
  19. Neil mentioned Hand Over Fist in an interview prior to the start of the R40 tour as an obscure never done live song he was interested in dusting off but it apparently didn't make the grade
  20. Part of it is the lame unimaginative chorus: Like a ghost riiiiiiider! Sort of reminds me of the lackluster chorus in Neurotica: Whoooahh whoooaaaa

    Changing

I always skip Red Tide because of two things: the cheesy dated irritating synth stabs and the dated "its the late 80s and all rock bands have to start addressing social concerns such as AIDS or the environment in their songs" lyrics. Funny story: Waaaaaay way back circa 1994 when the internet was still brand new I was in college and discussing Rush in some music chat room and someone said "Ugh, Rush is so irritating I don't like them" and I asked why and he or she quoted Red Tide "THIS IS NOT A FALSE ALARM THIS IS NOT A TEST" which I thought was an awfully deep cut for a non fan to reference instead of something more known and FM radio mainstream like Tom Sawyer, Spirit, etc
  22. I wish I enjoyed Ghost Rider (the song) more than I do. Its not bad but it loses my interest after a few minutes. I think it needed some tweaks in the writing process although if I recall they did completely rewrite and re record it during the VT sessions
  23. I heard The Larger Bowl in a Wal Mart about 4 years ago
  24. I was listening to GnR's 2008 Chinese Democracy album the other day and a lot of it reminded me of the issues I had with Rush's final three albums. -Three or four songs too long -A couple of really good stand out songs, a bunch of mediocre ones that don't quite live up to their potential and a couple skippable clunkers -Was obviously pieced together with Pro Tools with many overdubs and punch-ins -Over reliance on a choir effect with the backing vocals. (In this case a choir of autotuned Axls instead of Geddys which gets really tiring three or four songs in) I don't know how many of you are also GnR fans but the Chinese Democracy album despite all the criticism when it finally came out ten years late had some good material on it...the title track and Better are two that come to mind
