  1. Some thoughts from a friend of mine on "Them Crooked Vultures" http://thr33qu33ns.blogspot.com/ You have to have been hiding under a boulder the size of Texas to have not heard about the latest, and possibly greatest, "supergroup" ever, Them Crooked Vultures. To think that the sum of it's parts could be greater than it's simple mathematical equation has never seemed a more plausible scenario. You start with one of the greatest drummers of one of the greatest bands of all time, Nirvana's Dave Grohl. Then you throw in someone who virtually defines the phrase "rock royalty," Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. Add to that one of the most highly esteemed and successful singer/guitarists of the past decade (or two), Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme. Ok, cliche as it may be, I have to use the phrase, "You do the math!" Impossible as it seems, it appears that this band is actually going to meet those unbelievably high expectations. Their debut self-titled album is scheduled to drop in a few weeks, and the first single "New Fang" will be released next week as a free download. But guess what, bitches? The Three Queens have got it for your sexy ass already! The tune is a madly driving southern-style boogie masterpiece, and here it is... http://www.zshare.net/audio/6758727064dcd1b8/ and; A couple weeks ago we posted the first single from the rock and roll behemoth that is Them Crooked Vultures, a smokin' track called "New Fang." Now a second track from the album has leaked, and it's possibly even more deliciously mad than "Fang." It's called "Mind Eraser, No Chaser," and it's chock-full of Josh Homme's insane riffing and twisted, jagged leads, Dave Grohl's elegantly brutish pounding and John Paul Jones' relentlessly driving bass. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, it even ends with a sweet little brass coda. It's as close to a rock and roll overdose as you're likely to come!
  2. One of those movies that never gets old. I watch it everytime I find it on cable. Always shed a tear at the end.
  3. Drank too much last weekend so I've been sick all week - staying in copying music.. Who am I kidding, I'm a loser I'm home every Friday night!!!
  4. I remember this band, I remember that I did like them. Don't remember any of their stuff, but it is a blast from the past for me.
  5. Since the Outsiders is not a choice I'm taking Red Dawn. Great flick, and I'm a girl.
  6. One of the tracks off the newest album is on the free disc that came with the Classic Rock Prog issue (the one with the Rush covers). It is "Time Flies" and I belive it's a shortened version, but I loved it!! Now I must have this album. Hopefully the rest doesn't disappoint.
  7. Very sad to hear. He waged a couragous battle.
  8. All this talk of Night Ranger and not a mention of their newest work "Hole in the Sun". I think you may still have to get it as an import but I like it very much. I have the import from the Frontiers label but I think there might be a US release also. It's quite different than the 80's NR that we are all familiar with, a little less pop. Don't worry though it does come with the requisite "Ballad"

QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Aug 29 2009, 02:07 PM) Desolation Boulevard is one of my favorite albums ever. Mine too, I have two vinyl copies cause I wore the first one out. Good Stuff! It's one of those albums that you sometimes forget about, but when you come across it you're pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
  10. QUOTE (Mara @ Aug 11 2009, 10:08 PM) Okay, so two weeks ago I started Accutane. Or, to be more precise, the generic version of Accutane, because Roche has announced it is tired of all of the legal hassle and will no longer manufacture Accutane. This is a serious drug, and I had to jump a few hurdles to get it. I think it would be easier to get crack. Possibly cheaper. I had to have two negative pregnancy tests (blood tests at an independent lab) 28 days apart before I could even get the prescription. Then I had to register on an FDA website and answer a bunch of questions and basically promise to not get pregnant (heh, guys, don't worry - I want a baby like I want a hole in the head). They do not care that my tubes are tied; as long as you are female, and all of the parts are still there, they make you jump through these hoops. And - I have to get negative lab tests EVERY month to get the prescription refilled, and check in on the FDA site. I am seriously tempted to pack my husband off to the doctor and have HIM say he wants this drug, and I'll snag his prescription. Men don't have to go through all of this. It's potent stuff, all right. But I LOOOOVE it. Been on it for two weeks and already there is way less oil. My skin does flake and peel now, and it's gotten very sensitive. I've had a couple days where, if you looked closely at me, I sort of resembled a snake shedding its skin! My lips are very dry and peel some now, especially in the mornings. Possibly the worst thing I've noticed is that my gums have suddenly gotten very tender. These side effects are minimally annoying. I am so THRILLED to not have the oil issue now, you have no idea. Barring any unforeseen complications, I will definitely continue treatment. I understand that after 6-9 months or so, the effects should at least last several years and may be permanent. I've wondered how this was working out for you, if it was helping at all. Will the side affects subside? Sounds like if you take it for awhile it may fix the oilyness for good? That's something!
  11. QUOTE (Jaye @ Aug 12 2009, 02:57 PM) A few more classics http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/Jett_Moonwing/Geddy1.jpg NICE! That's all I got to say about that!
  12. QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jul 30 2009, 11:41 AM) QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Jul 30 2009, 12:26 PM) Some of you are really scraping the bottom of the bowl for things to post about. This, then the KC and the Sunshine band post? Are you guys on drugs, FFS? Blame reani14. And it appears that this is typical. Yes, typical - but if you hold on long enough these ones sometimes will turn into something interesting.. Please guys!!! a new album SOON!!!
  13. I tried to stay away from this thread until I finally got to see the movie, it was very good, better than some of the others but to echo some of the other comments - What about Dumbledore's funeral?!?!?! They could have done so much with that! I can only hope that it may be, as suggested above, an opening for the next one. Where did the burning of the Burrow come from? I just re-read the book and i don't remember that or anything like that?
  14. I can't wait to see it, may take it in tonight.. hopefully.
  15. I loved that album and saw them in concert oh so many years ago. Only recently learned that they apparently had many other albums that I never even knew about.. might be time to replace my vinyl Outfield with a cd. It was a very slick album, made for radio. Good stuff, good memories.
  16. Gotta give a thumbs up for David Coverdale, I'm not so into his latest release but at least he's still making new music. I saw that tour in support of the s/t album, he opened for Motley Crue. It didn't suck! And for all the men, (who were teenagers in the late 80's) don't even try and say you weren't a fan of his videos..
  17. QUOTE (raptorcox @ Jul 2 2009, 04:30 PM) QUOTE (MCM @ Jul 1 2009, 10:00 PM) I saw Jeff Pilson playing with Foreigner last summer, he's still playing with all that posing and hair tossing. Not sure he can play without it. Is Jason Bonham still playing with Foreigner as well. That's news to me with Pilson, I always wondered what Dokken would have been like with Juan Crocier (Ratt) instead of Jeff... No, Jason left Foreigner this past fall, right about the time all the Zeppelin rumors were flying. I glad I did get to see him play, I don't know what he's doing now except staying home with his kids which was his official reason for leaving the band.
  18. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jun 6 2009, 07:38 AM) In My Dreams was a good jam. If you watch that video notice that few musicians have posed quite as hard as bassist Jeff Pilson. That guy was hoping to pick up some girlz with that video. I saw Jeff Pilson playing with Foreigner last summer, he's still playing with all that posing and hair tossing. Not sure he can play without it. (That Foreigner show was a good one too!)
  19. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 26 2009, 07:14 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 26 2009, 08:08 AM) QUOTE (MCM @ Jun 25 2009, 06:48 PM) Granted it's certainly got a lot to offer, the drum work alone makes it a classic start to finish in my book. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this album, side one especially, and listened and focused JUST on Neil's drumming. Not only is it exemplary of crystal clear production, but just phenomenal drumming. It really is a marvel to listen to, and that's not even considering the amazing bass, guitar, singing and the entire package. Peerless songs... The sound production of the drums on this does make it great. I wish a few other albums had the same production...not to mention the red Tamas. (Sorry missed your show last night Goobs. I was investigating a new business venture.) That's just it, the drums just SOUND better on this one, the drums themselves? the production? the playing? I don't know what it is, but I wish they always would sound that good.
  20. QUOTE (tangy @ Jun 26 2009, 10:52 AM) an old patch still my collection http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f321/mikemoran/rush001.jpg Hah! 97 Rock was my radio station of choice growing up, my first Rush show was at "The Aud" in Buffalo. It's gone now isn't it?
  21. QUOTE (mankad89 @ Jun 25 2009, 05:16 PM) Moving Pictures is utter magic in the form of a compact disc. Just imagine how much more magical it was when it came in the form of a vinyl record. I think this was said above, but as the day goes on my ability to understand the written word becomes less and less, so here goes: I think that for those who are nutty Rush fans (I use the term nutty with all love and respect here) MP may be overrated as the nutty Rush fan knows how much more there is to Rush before and after MP. For the casual or fair weathered Rush fan MP is not overrated as they think it's the best the band has to offer and it generates radio play still today. Granted it's certainly got a lot to offer, the drum work alone makes it a classic start to finish in my book. Those that listen to and are immersed in the entire Rush catalog know that it a great record, but we also know they've given us a lot more great stuff than just MP.
  22. QUOTE (RUSH-2112 @ Jun 11 2009, 06:43 PM) Hey picksburgher Do you play an instrument? Nope, sadly I'm a consumer of music, not a player of music.
  23. QUOTE (RushFanForever @ Jun 12 2009, 10:03 AM) Check this out below: Geddy Lee and Grapes For Humanity How is it that he always looks so much cooler than anyone else in the room?
  24. Welcome - I too am a Picksburger.. not born and raised but transplanted.
