  1. Uh, VS, top five albums, as voted by the millions of TRF members ;) were 2112 thru MP. Seems to me the 70s era is far more passionate and vocal, and Ged has even learned to sing Temples, Circumstances and Freewill to keep them happy at this late stage in his career. I doubt the casual rock fan knows OLV, FC, RTB or Animate, so why repeat those... I'm with you. recently on That Metal Show (google it), Geddy picked his personal top 5 favorite RUSH albums.... They were MP, Perm Waves, 2112, Hemispheres, AFTK... Nothing from the middle 80's through the 90's. Someone asked Eddie Trunk about that. "Hey! We can only fit nine albums on the rack!" :laughing guy:
  2. I would propose that you hold off any conclusions until the first show is played in its entirety. And, to be honest, notions like "But they just played The Camera Eye four years ago!" might show that you are overthinking this a bit, perhaps? They certainly don't need a video to play Finding My Way, In The Mood or Working Man. Aside from Anthem and the sections I and II from By-Tor, what else are they gonna play off FBN? The title track they already sold off to a car commercial? Do they need video to play any of Bastille Day or parts of the CoS epics? CTTH and Xanadu and instrumental sections of Cygnus X-1 are all we are going to get off AFTK. They soundchecked that title track almost 10 years ago and it didn't work, no reason to think it would work now. As far as Hemispheres, methinks people need to let the notion of a complete Side One go. HE CAN'T SING LIKE THAT ANYMORE. Folks keep pointing to remarks made by the boys as far as deep cuts. Geddy has also said several times that he wishes he could accommodate the fans, but he has gone back and listened to material from the 70s and said "I'm not singing that!" They do what they want to do and play what they want to play. 41 years now, you know. Expecting anything different at this point is a guaranteed disappointment.
  3. First paragraph from the Rush wikipedia page...
  4. BH and all the alleged setlist supporters, yall MISSING the point. I like CA. I like VT. I like SnA. (sorry Mick). But this tour was promised to be DIFFERENT, not the same setlist culled from R30 thru CA. And actually to pick on your point about greatest hits band...that list is full of hits, so Rush IS a casino band NOW, how many track ones are on the list ;) ? How DIFFERENT do you want it? Good Lord. What was this promise that you speak of? Deeper cuts? Let's wait until after Friday night, of course, but we all know that some folks won't be happy unless they play an exclusive set of nothing else but songs from 1974-1980. Sometimes I wish they'd give the entire Hemispheres a go, and when everyone hears how embarrassing it would be for Geddy to try and sing it now, I'd wonder if people would still bitch. Well, of course they would. Being this miserable about it, you gonna sell your tickets?
  5. "Well, you know I have over twenty albums of recorded music, very hard to choose one, uh, it's always the most recent child that's your favorite, but right now I'm still in love with Clockwork Angels, that whole album, and in particular there's a song called "The Garden" on it that is very close to me." Geddy - Juno Awards press conference, March 2015 No matter what any of us think, Rush is Rush because they have always played the music they wanted to play. There's a reason they don't play casino greatest hits triple bills with the remnants of Styx and Foreigner. Someone not liking what they do has never stopped them, and it certainly won't stop them now.
  6. To be fair, the pic of the video credits does look quite legit. Someone would have to be quite intent on a hoax to go that far.
  7. Ah, um...everyone does realize that the tour books often contain pictures from the previous tour, right?
  8. The biggest problem with red lenses is whoever thought it was such a brilliant idea to fade out the jamming Geddy does at the end of the studio cut. Angers me every time I hear it.
  9. He's the Canadian David Gilmour. Underrated doesn't even begin to describe his underratedness. But, being in Rush has its unfortunate drawbacks as far as the "wisdom" of the masses.
  10. In that case you need to be under house arrest. LOL, touche!
  11. I just can't see Geddy compromising the integrity of the music at this point. It would be incredible to hear all of Hemispheres, but if it requires embarrasing himself to pull it off, then no thanks. Besides, that's what David Lee Roth is for.

    Every Album

I can listen to every album, but that's doesn't necessarily mean I don't track through some of them. :eyeroll:
  13. Does it really matter if Neil is a jerk or not? In the not too distant future in won't matter one whit.
  14. "Greatest Hits?" As in plural? That's not possible. It's Rush. A Greatest Hits show would consist of a one song set of New World Man. :laughing guy:
  15. The unbelievably badass performance by Geddy on the Secret Touch off S&A Live rocketed that song to a playlist I listen to quite often.
  16. I do recall an interview somewhere with Howard where over the years it evolved with the lighting rig...in the early years he and Geddy went over every detail, then Howard would come up with the design and take to Geddy who would say "Is it in budget? Ok, roll with it," to Geddy finally going "You handle it, I don't have the time."
  17. Geddy, Flea and Les Claypool cut a bass trio album with Danny Carey on drums.

  19. The first time I listened to Counterparts... Animate..."Yes, this grooves!" Stick It Out..."This is tight!" Cut To The Chase..."Oh HELL yeah!" Nobody's Hero..."Um...whut done just come outta my speakers?" Between Sun and Moon..."This is better, ok, catchy" Alien Shore..."Ok, Geddy just said the word sex. He just said it again. I'm uncomfortable and I don't even know why." The Speed of Love..."Another love song? With 'love' in the title? Um, ah, um..." (I check cover of CD, make sure it says "Rush") Double Agent..."Ahhh, darker, uneasy, nice riff, yeah, this'll do." Leave That Thing Alone..."YES! Instrumental!" (Hit repeat and listen to song three times) Cold Fire..."Now he's singing about HAVING sex! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! OH THE HUMANITY!!!!" (Jump though bay window, run screaming down the street, waving arms madly, contemplating the lunacy of it all...) Everyday Glory...(Now back home, deeply mentally scarred, trying to pick up the pieces) "This is...kinda corny."

  21. In his latest post about being a very-part time endurance racer, Neil manages to squeeze in a humble brag about driving his $280,000 sports car. Whine away! :laughing guy:
