  1. It sounds like a placeholder to me.
  2. I think Alex's riff here would have fit in nicely on the first Rush album. And I love the lead in to that riff. Definitely wonder whether Geddy will be able to pull off the vocals live. On the downside, I think Alex's solo is forgettable.
  3. CA sounds way better than VT. There are some issues with it, but after listening to a lot of CA recently, I put in VT yesterday and it sounded like mud. I couldn't even make it through a couple of songs.
  4. The Anarchist The Garden Headlong Flight Caravan The fourth one is the hard one, but I think Caravan is a little better than the title track or Carnies.
  5. It's okay to listen to other music. You don't have to just listen to CA over and over.
  6. Do you remember RS' review of S&A? They gave it a 3, then said to add 2 stars if you're a Rush fan and subtract 2 stars if you're anybody else. They said the high point was Alex's solo in Malignant Narcissism, which of course doesn't have a guitar solo. No need to care what RS does with regard to the review. They know Rush fans despise their rag and are doing their best to annoy the sensitive among us.
  7. Snakes and Arrows has not aged well for me. I start getting a little bored around the time Working Them Angels comes on. Hard to listen through to the end nowadays. But it's still good. VT has always been a favorite of mine. CA is real strong. I think it will hold up well.
  8. All you need to take from this is that CA is so good that even RS had to give it 3.5 stars.
  9. At least for today, this one is the high point of the record.

So when is the remaster of CA coming out?
  11. I voted for Natural Science. I win!!!
  12. It's perfectly okay not to like it. Personally, I think it's great. But I don't like the first three albums, nor the second side of 2112. Power Windows was a major disappointment for me. I detest HYF. Presto and Roll the Bones are subpar in my view. And don't get me started on TFE. On the other hand, I LOVE VAPOR TRAILS!!! Even though I'm not supposed to. To each its own.
  13. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 10 2012, 09:49 AM) Fair point. A lot of 2112's flip side is crap. This sums it up for me. The second side is one of the weakest group of songs in Rush's entire catalog.
  14. I've heard about half of the songs as they pop up on YouTube from time to time. Clockwork Angels and Wish Them Well sound a little bit like they were cut and spliced together, particularly the latter, but I like them. The Garden is just a beautiful, gorgeous song. Not completely in love with the Wreckers like some are. Good song, but not a standout for me after a couple of listens.
  15. It's Vapor Trails, Part II to me. That's okay though as I like Vapor Trails.
  16. I went with Vapor Trail, but I'd be happy with so many others, Ceiling Unlimited, Ghostrider, Peaceable Kingdom, How It Is, Secret Touch or Freeze.
  17. Manhattan Project. Other than Marathon, which they just played, nothing on this record interests me anymore (in terms of a live show).
  18. Never cared for Prime Mover or Open Secrets. But HYF is my least favorite record after the pre-2112 period, so maybe I too biased. I like it when they play a song never played before. So I'll go with Second Nature. Geddy said they considered playing an acoustic version on the Vapor Trails tour instead of Resist.
  19. I had quite the adventure trying to get tickets for the Gibson in LA. Took forever to get halfway decent tickets in the Orchestra section. Just a little too far to the side for my liking, but decided to take them. Then the page crashed when I hit continue. Tickets gone. Then I tried again and after another 15 minutes, I got better seats in Orchestra 2 (center right). So I took those and the page crashed again when I hit continue. So I tried again for another 5 minutes and the same Orchestra 2 seats popped up again. This time it went through. The location is great except it's at the back of the section. Would have been better if they were 10 rows closer. But they're better seats than when I saw them last year, so I'm okay with it. I had all the aggrevation I could take anyway.
  20. QUOTE (presto123 @ Apr 19 2012, 03:39 AM) but Headlong Flight makes 2112 sound downright wimpy. I am stunned the boys could pull this off at this stage in the game You should have clarified that you were referring to the second side of 2112 and not the first. One should not declare a brand new song as the greatest thing ever in haste.
  21. A song like Subdivisions makes sense because they need to start off with a song that isn't too far up Geddy's vocal register. Starting with Freewill would be a disaster for this reason. When I saw them in LA last year Geddy struggled on TSOR to open the show. For a minute, I thought that time had finally caught up to him, but he was fine after a couple of songs.
  22. If you go to latimes.com now, Neil's picture and story is right there at the top of the page.
  23. Just got back. This was maybe my seventh or eighth Rush concert. Geddy's voice on the opening song was not where it needed to be and I thought, uh-oh, maybe time had finally caught up with them, but after a few songs he was really great. The musicianship just keeps getting better and the concert was just fantastic. Alex was on fire during the encore. Witch Hunt was great as was Caravan. The crowd was on its feet all night and was really into it. Definitely the loudest Rush show I've ever been to audience wise. Can't wait to see them again (hopefully) next year.
