  1. I'm in the same boat. Heard the news and immediately thought of this community. My condolences to his family and all of you, some of the best music fans in the world.
  2. 1977. My neighbor bought A Farewell to Kings. Xanadu and Cygnus X-1? I was hooked immediately.
  3. S&A was high on my list when it first came out, but it hasn't fared as well over time. The Larger Bowl, Good News First and Bravest Face suck the life out of any listen. The second half of Armor and Sword is fantastic. The first half is good. I'm with those that think Spindrift is underrated.
  4. Before anyone panics, just remember that present Neil can't stop future Neil from doing anything. That said, I've been a fan since 1978, first saw them on the Signals tour as a teenager and was at the final LA Show. I am at complete peace with the idea that it is over.
  5. Well, they could have been picking out random bed tracks for the ad, that's hardly a for sure spoiler. You can disbelieve it if you want. Great show last night. The song KLOS was playing in its promo was Hemispheres, which is why I assumed it must be in the setlist. I didn't mind the reverse order setlist and had no idea it was coming. I thought they would start the second set from the beginning and work their way to the middle. The movers constantly changing the set to be more retro was typical wacky Rush. When they got to the Roll The Bones album, I thought to myself "They better not play Roll the Bones." Five seconds later, I thought "Goddammit." But it was fine with the new celebrity video. When they then skipped Presto back thru Power Windows, I was pretty pleased about that. Got all of that era that I needed in the CA tour. They ended with the only two songs off the first album that I like so can't complain about that. I was glad I was there and glad I didn't know what was coming other than Losing It, Hemispheres and Lakeside Park. For whatever reason it wasn't an emotional goodbye for me. This was my 9th show dating back to Signals. Can't feel like they haven't given me all I could possibly have asked for. So I left feeling satisfied, not sad.
  6. Well, listening to KLOS today in LA, they had a promo for winning Rush tickets. In the background for the promo they were playing an old Rush song that they never ever play, so I'm guessing that must be in the set list. So now I'm aware of 3 songs that will be played. Dammit. August 1 can't come soon enough.
  7. I have to wait the longest seeing I'm going to the final LA show. I've avoided this website for the most part and don't look behind the folds on RIAB. I'm aware of only two things: (1) the so-called "special song" and one other song being played as RIAB mistakenly referred to it in a post when quoting an article. The song title was later changed to "
  8. I know I've done this before. Permanent Waves Moving Pictures AFTK Hemispheres Clockwork Angels Signals Grace Under Pressure Vapor Trails 2112 Counterparts
  9. Wish I had thought of that one. That's very good. And true. Vapor Trails is great. For at least six reasons. I love the remixed Vapor Trails, but it is too long a journey. I think it would have been better listen without The Stars Look Down and Nocturne, not that I hate them, but it's too much of the same vibe for 13 tracks.
  10. I'm thinking about it. We need a new frisbee.
  11. I love CA and still listen to it. The top 2 Rush albums for me are Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. After that, I really can't rank the next group. But AFTK, Hemispheres, Signals, Grace Under Pressure and CA are the other ones that deserve mentioning when trying to complete my Top 5. Alex is great on CA and Geddy's bass is really lively. I get the problems with the production, but beginning to end it's a strong effort. That's not even grading it on a type of age scale. When you consider they were pushing 60 when they made it, it's an incredible accomplishment.
  12. My introduction to Rush was my neighbor who had AFTK when it came out. Rush didn't become a big deal to me until Moving Pictures and then I got AFTK too and started exploring the earlier stuff. I don't care for the first three albums or side two of 2112. I couldn't stand and still can't stand Geddy's early shrieking squirrel vocals. Each of the first 3 albums have a couple of songs I like, but man those vocals are painful to listen to. At least on the 2112 suite the vocals fit in thematically. But Rush as it was introduced to me included the keyboards, pedals, temple blocks and chimes on AFTK.
  13. I agree Curly. Plus to those complaining about brokers offering tickets for thousands of dollars, for the most part that's just to make buyers think they're getting a steal later down the road when they end up buying them for $750.
  14. I could have gotten floor, 25th row, left of center at the Forum but passed, waiting for the public sale. Time will tell if I made the right choice. The other somewhat interesting choice was 3rd row floor, but all the way to the right, next to the lower bowl. From the seating chart, this is well right of the stage. I didn't think I'd enjoy the viewing angle. I've grown accustomed to seeing them close to center stage at the Nokia and Gibson.
  15. Alex definitely implied that more shows could be added to the tour. Alex admitted that he and Neil had some reservations about touring. Said Geddy is ready to go.
  16. The Signals tour was my first time seeing Rush. It was at the L.A. Forum. Actually the most memorable thing about the show was the call I got at 7 p.m. from my friend telling me that our tickets were for that night, not the following night as he had told us. I was in High School and had a math test the next day that I was going to study for that night. But I knew what my priorities were and went to the show. We saw the end of Golden Earring's set. If I recall correctly the last two songs were Twilight Zone and Radar Love, so I didn't feel like I missed anything important. Having ESL and not knowing any better, I expected TSOR to be followed by Red Barchetta. So I was pretty surprised when it was Tom Sawyer that followed and Freewill followed that. What a way to start a show! The setlist was pretty good. I do recall the Weapon, but not the intro video. I just recalled watching Neil in amazement with how unorthodox his drumming was on that song. And Alex's solo was sweet. We had lousy seats behind the stage, with Geddy and Alex facing the other way. But it was close to Neil so I mostly just watched him play which was great. Alex came back our way a couple times to acknowledge the fans back there. The light show was good. The sound was really good. The crowd's enthusiasm did wane a bit when they played new songs. They played the whole Signals record except Losing It. The encore was good, except they played this one song I'd never heard, which the crowd went crazy for. I remember thinking what's so great about this song, it's the worst thing they've played all night. That was In The Mood. I still hate that song. I bought a Signals t-shirt and proudly represented the next day at school. I even did okay on my math test.
  17. Well, I became aware of the band when my next door neighbor got A Farewell to Kings around 1978. It was all about Xanadu and Closer to the Heart back then for me. The band didn't really take off on the radio out here in LA until Moving Pictures came out though. Before that, sometimes you'd hear Closer to the Heart and TSOR on the radio, but that was pretty much it. Once Moving Pictures came out, suddenly you heard Freewill, Entre Nous, The Trees, Fly By Night and Working Man in addition to the MP songs. Even heard Bastille Day once in a while. Tom Sawyer was very futuristic sounding to me. Red Barcetta put all other car songs to shame. But they weren't the biggest band at the time. They were just another one of many rock bands that you'd hear on the radio. Hard rock was much bigger back then and a lot of the "big" bands were still around and in their prime. They were nothing popularity wise compared to Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, etc. But they were a very cool band. Much more interesting than all the bands writing dumb, cock rock songs. I first saw them on the Signals tour. It was all good fun and they were a tight band with great sound. The musicianship was out of this world. Watching them play their instruments and Taurus pedals and all, with Neil playing real chimes, etc., was really cool to see.
  18. I know and that's what I'm doing even though it's been emotionally taxing and very difficult. My first visit with my therapist was with my husband. He tried to tell my husband things he could already tell he needed to work on and my husband kind of blew him off, didn't try to understand what he was saying, and was basically like "she's been through more stuff so she needs more help than I do." Even one of the first things the therapist said to him was "Do you even hear the things she tells you she needs and tries to say to you?" Because he watched my husband blow me off right in front of him. Example: Therapist (to me): "How is your sleep? Are you getting a good night's sleep?" Me: "No, I don't sleep well at all, I'm lucky to get 5-6 hours most nights." Husband: "Well I sleep just fine!" Therapist: "Did you even hear what she said? That she's struggling with sleeping?" It was good for your therapist to point this out. If I can make a comment well above my pay grade though, your focus in this thread seems to be on your relationship and the fact that your husband doesn't live up to your expectations, is insenstive or worse, etc. But you've identified yourself as having had an eating disorder, an alcoholic father (which of course is a form of child abuse), being homeless (a runaway?), the victim of two sexual assaults and having suffered physical abuse by a former boyfriend. That is a horrific list. You probably have PTSD as well as other conditions. Just seems to me that working through all of that (assuming you haven't fully worked through it, which I'm guessing is the case), should be the focal point. Whether or not you made a mistake marrying this fellow I think you'll be able to figure out in a relatively short time. But I don't think you're having suicidal ideations because your husband made awful comments about your weight. It goes much deeper than that and the focus on your husband as being the primary source of your current problems to me is likely misdirected, even if it turns out he's an insensitive jerk who you should leave for your own well being. Stay in therapy. Follow your doctor's advice. Take your medication if prescribed. Good luck!
  19. I just came across this thread and am sorry for your situation. I'm glad you are apparently getting professional help. Given what you've said about your past, you've had a very disfunctional life, which is not your fault, but it can't help but impact your relationships (including who you chose to be in relationships with). First and foremost, you need to work on yourself. If your husband is supportive of that, then that tells you something. If he is not, then that tells you something too. But with everything that you've described, I don't think the health of your marriage is the most critical issue in your life right now.
  20. Clockwork Angels Vapor Trails Remixed Counterparts Snakes & Arrows Test for Echo. This may be the most lopsided poll ever. Pretty easy list for me to make.
  21. It really isn't the same band with their lead singer, 2 of 3 guitarists, bassist and pianist all deceased and their original drummer long gone from the group. That band was more cursed than the Kennedy family.
  22. CA is a masterpiece. No need to change the producer. Although maybe get Bottrill to do the final mix.
  23. They should do what they want. I'd be pleasantly surprised by some longer pieces. A couple of the 10 minute variety.
  24. Alex is better on TFE. Everything else about Counterparts is better, except for the album cover.
  25. I think combining Presto and Roll the Bones would be the hardest, given the lack of good songs. If I had to, I'd go with something like this: Dreamline Show, Don't Tell Bravado Roll the Bones Where's My Thing? The Big Wheel The Pass Ghost of a Chance War Paint Anagram You Bet Your Life The last one isn't a particularly good song in my view, but it's the best I can think of in terms of a closer. Still a pretty weak collection, although it would have its share of radio friendly songs.
