  1. side B of Roll the Bones.
  2. If we can get bu2b and caravan as singles,is it much of a strethch to think maybe rush should do a mini tour? Or does that not make sense in today's music business?

  4. I'd love to see some T4E get some love this tour. Even if it is just Driven or Resist. I'll take what i can get when it comes to the 70's stuff (even if its another half-baked medley of Hemispheres with Cygnus X1). Hearing Farewell to Kings somehow would be amazing as well. Jacob's Ladder too. I particularly think we're gonna get Show Dont Tell, The Enemy Within, Turn the Page and maybe something like Chemistry or The Weapon.
  5. Snakes and Arrows was my least favourite. It was the first time we got exposed to the practice of beginning the whole second set with basically 80 percent of the new album. I dont like it - but by the time Clockwork Angels rolled around I was prepared to accept it, especially given that it was a far superior album to S&A overall. This tour got modified as it went on. I saw them 3 times during this tour, and the set I saw in Toronto was my least favourite . Biggest example was they scrapped Distant Early Warning for Summertime Blues... LAME., and on that first leg they didn't play 2112 though they brought it back the next leg the following year. Clockwork Angels gets my pick because there were interesting variations on the set, such as Neils' 3 drum solos, and the B-sides that were sucuh a joy to hear live. (Wheres my Thing, the Power Windows cuts, Body Electric, ).. The orchestra was breathtaking, and added new life to the keyboard-era tunes. I'm sad we don't have a good audio recording of all this though. If they had someone like Bob Rock mixing (ala Metallica's S&A symphony live album) it would've been a truly remarkable keepsake. But oh well, at least i was there. Time Machine was a very VERY close second , and was within reasonable expectation, (Marathon was the highlight for me) however I would've swapped maybe Faithless or Far Cry for one of the cuts they ended up playing on the CA tour mentioned above.
  6. there were some poor choices on there, but I went with Different Strings, The Big Wheel, Chain Lightning, Alien Shore, and Losing It. Songs that I remain hopeful to hear on this next tour (within reasonable expectation) : Show Dont Tell, Turn The Page, The Enemy Within, and hopefully making a welcome return would be - Distant Early Warning.Natural Science, and Xanadu.
  7. I actually went to the length of running some of the songs in garageband, and re-equing them to bring out the drums more . didn't help much. bring the treble way up and its harsher on the ears. Im hoping theres someway to manipulate the blue-ray mix. Like just use the center channel to bring out the kick and snare or something.
  8. the cds great. id agree with those whove said is neil's buried in the mix. if you listen to the studio albums, or say exit stage left, his tom fils are like an event. theyre cutting through. piercing. so that quality is missed.
  9. Different Stages is my personal favourite. I'd say this is the best one since then... That said..I have issues with Neil's drums being so low in the mix on the previous few live albums. In that vein, S&A live and TM tour are very similarly mixed. but this one wins because the song material is killer, and both Geddy and Alex sound alot better. That is mostly attributed to them using different gear. Alex ditched the Hughes and Kettner amps which were muddy as hell, in favor of his custom shop Marshall clones -- huge improvement -- and Geddy went from using the Fender Jazz with the 2 pickups split in stereo, which sounded really unnatural already, and it was then routed through Sansamp distortion ( which sounded buzzy and lacked definition.) He now has his Jazz in the standard mono output , routed through an Orange amp of some sort. way beefier, way more natural sounding.
  10. great topic. Force Ten Clockwork Angels Where's My Thing Bravado Dreamline Red Sector A (the orchestra makes this even more amazing) All the power windows cuts esp Manhattan Project
  11. it all sounds marginally better than the previous few live albums, but along the same lines... Alex's guitar sounds better cus he's using amps with decent tone (instead of H&Ks), but its still very treblyl. Gedy's bass has a ton of bottom end but its a bit hard to hear the bass at times.. and Neils drums just sound wimpy...whereas all hte shows i've seen live these past few tours the drums always cut through the mix. I just dont like whoever they have mixing these last few live albums. All that aside, its a small improvement, and I'm thriilled to hear the 80s b-sides.
  12. spot on. There is an improvement for sure, but I see it as a "yin/yang" kind of thing. The first mix was raw, out of control. this is much more refined, but it loses some of that aggression and power.
  13. also putting this out there, if anybody somehow got that audio from the Halifax show, please let me know :)
  14. as a professed audiophile, I have to say that this is the best recording of modern-day Rush I've heard since Different Stages. I'm absolutely blown away!!!! THIS should be the official audio release!! It would kind of be an ideal if they did something similar to Different Stages, take the audio from multiple shows and release an audio CD of it. But they were on fire on that Halifax show.
  15. I was there with my brother and my dad. I was pretty emotional. The years between 1997 and 2002 , I went from being in junior high to just entering college, and all throughout those years, I listened to rush every single day, and kept telling myself I'd likely never see them in concert again. So to actually see them once more time (I saw them for the first time on T4E as a 12 year old) I was absolutely in disbelief and overjoyed it was happening. I teared up during Tom Sawyer, Distant Early Warning, Big Money and the By-Tor/Cygnus/Working Man closer. It was a fantastic tour.
  16. STUDIO - .... oohhh this is tough. it almost changes every year or so...but I"l say Permanent Waves... LIVE....... probably Different Stages
  17. Im actually kind of hoping that they end up deciding to release a CA Live disc first, for say spring or summer of 2013 followed by the full DVD by the end of the year at Christmas time like they did with S&A live in 2008. If that did happen it would be awesome if they included an extra couple of songs from the 2013 leg in Ireland or Scotland. But CDs are a dying medium and I'm actually kind of wondering if maybe its time Rush management considered maybe just having the audio released on iTunes only or something to that effect. If not we may most likely just get a DigiPak (2 CDs + DVD and/or Blueray, something like that) at the end of next year.
  18. I would have to dig farther back to Power Windows to be honest. Counterparts has some really great songs, and it was the biggest "comeback" for Rush at that point as they returned to that hard rock sound, but I find myself very rarely listening to most songs from that album most days. When I say most I mean particularly Speed of Love, Between Sun and Moon, Cold Fire. I do love me some Leave That Thing Alone and Animate though. Theres always something to love about every Rush album, and with counterparts its that big visceral sound. It was a bit before the time I started really following Rush's every move, but I can only imagine what that meant as far as the excitement in having them return to a more powerful sound / "rock" oriented writing. CA's a ; concept album, in the midst of the media paying more attention to them than ever before, great arrangements/song ideas, the statement is such a huge one at this point. And I realize this becuase normally when I see Rush perform new material live, it goes over just "okay". Sounds just like the album, mild crowd reaction if its the single (One Little Victory, Far Cry, etc). But the crowd popped pretty huge to Headlong Flight.
  19. great post. I always liked Power Windows, I first bought it when I was 13 (28 now). but I would totally agree that hearing these songs definately made me appareciate it a whole lot more. I barely recognized Territories until the chorus, and since the show 5 days ago I've been listening to it almost daily.
  20. QUOTE (JALTHOFF @ Oct 15 2012, 05:40 PM) Definately a great show. Was it just me, or did Geddy sing "the boy pulled down his Blue Jays cap..." during Analog Kid? he did!
  21. one refreshing thing about this show was , I've always thought Rush's new material was always greeted with...lukewarm response to complete apathy. This was ESPECIALLY true on the Snakes and Arrows true as alot of people didn't dig it, and alot of us myself included were overwhelmed when they decided to play, what was it 6 songs in a row from it? THIS time...people around my section seemed genuinely into Clockwork angels...particularly Headlong flight...kept seeing people give each other glances of "hmm? not bad!" during a spot here and there .
