    Exit Stage Left

QUOTE (rocketom @ Oct 6 2012, 09:25 PM) Why would any tape or video not released be unusable. At that time when it was released video cassettes were fairly new, they only used an edited 60 minutes for release. For some reason they did not have someone go back and use the full concert films when releasing dvd's. I'm sure the rest of the tape from all 3 1980's concert films are saved and store where they can't be damaged. I don't think there was much thought given to rereleasing these much further down the line. I think if it wasn't released the first time it would have ended up on the cutting room floor and forgotten about. The bonus Different Stages disc wasn't the whole show either. That lucky find was to have been a radio broadcast (according to Geddy) that was scrapped at the last minute because Geddy wasn't feeling well that evening and and decided it wasn't good enough to broadcast later and it was eventually forgotten about. I'd have thought if they were going to release this it should have been the whole thing (The show wasn't that much longer.) I suppose you could argue that it wouldn't have made sense to add another disc or that there were problems with the handful of songs they left off. But I'd also think that Mercury/Polygram/ Island Def Jam/Universal Vivendi would have mined whatever was left over given their habit of releasing compilations and reissues and an accelerated rate over the last 10 years. While there are likely other full or partial recording in the Rush vault (St. Louis 1980 for one..and who can say for certain if there's more than the 75 minutes already broadcast there) I don't think there's much if anything related to what's already been released in some form from Exit...Stage Left and to a lesser extent Grace Under Pressure and A Show Of Hands. I don't think we'll ever know for sure unless someone comes out and says so.

    Exit Stage Left

I'm one of those who believes that if there was any extra Exit...Stage Left film/video, it's beyond usable at this point. Audio may be a different story. Jacob's Ladder was from a UK performance in 1980 and Witch Hunt was first played on the Grace Under Pressure Tour in 1984 when they felt they were able to play it given the technological advancements made at that time. Vital Signs live, which became a B-side on the New World Man single, was considered for release on the Exit...Stage Left album as was Natural Science (which was never made commercially available live from that time period), according to a Neil Peart interview from around that time.
  4. QUOTE (hunter @ Sep 30 2012, 06:12 PM) Somehow I missed it until now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzBCUIHE7zc...ayer_detailpage I was third row for that. It sounded great as did the rest of the show. Champions (from 1985) is a great record too.
  5. Anyone looking for Promotional CD singles?
  6. It was going to be just one this leg until I found out I was getting a B set instead of an A. So now I've got an A set to go with my B. Fortunately, the shirts this year don't thrill me so I was able to swing it.
  7. QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ Sep 7 2012, 10:15 PM) I've been following along but haven't posted yet so I'll put various thoughts in one post. 1. For me, I freaking love this set. As someone who has seen Rush over 30 times and owns every single album/live album/dvd and about 100 bootlegs the fresher the set the better for me. That's why I loved the S&A set so much. 2. This is as close as we'll realistically get to a "B-sides" tour. 3. Like a few others the only part that's actually somewhat disappointing for me is the last four songs. I'm not exactly unhappy about them and they've got to throw a few standards in there for the masses but for me personally those are the least interesting ones. 4. I absolutely love the new album so the more the better, would have also loved to hear Seven Cities. 5. As far as songs like Limelight and Freewill a few of you seem to be acting like those are always played, that's not true at all. Of course, they're very common but they've been skipped here and there. Freewill wasn't played most recently on the R30 tour and also missed the Counterparts and Hold Your Fire tours and others. Limelight was only played on the last leg of the TFE tour and wan't played at all on the Presto and Grace Under Pressure tours. 6. As far as Jacob's Ladder goes, I was shocked reading along at everybody's expectations of hearing it. First of all, I hate to pick on anybody but from what I remember that Tony guy is basically someone that likes to mess with people. Not quite a troll but just likes to feel "smarter than". We know JL was rehearsed for the last tour and didn't make it and Neil specifically addressed this on his most recent instructional dvd where he confirmed they tried it but dropped it because sometimes "You can't go back again" and he seemed pretty adamant about it. Obviously, it's possible he could have changed his mind but that seemed incredibly unlikely only one tour later if you watched him talk about it. 7. I'm really excited to see this show but I'm also realistic enough to know that the overwhelming majority of the crowd goes to see Rush to hear what they know from the radio. I'm afraid standing in the crowd is going to ruin most of my enjoyment because of the constant bitching throughout. I'd bet 75% of the typical audience has never even heard the names The Body Electric or Grand Designs or Territories, much less the new songs. It's going to be one long draining night of "Play 2112!!!!!!", and "Play Freewill!!!!!!!!!" and "Play Limelight!!!!!" while I'm trying to hear the songs. I sure hope I'm wrong but I've spend too many evenings standing near a "fan" who spends over 2 hours between every single song yelling "Tom Sawyer!! Tom Sawyer!!" to expect anything different. But thank you Rush for having the courage to play so much off the radar stuff, especially after the incredibly standards-heavy Time Machine tour (although I loved the first set). Anyway, there, I'm done! That about sums it up for me. More pleasant surprises ( for me) than any set ever and there have been quite a few good ones in the recent past, but nothing like this. The album is a gift that keeps on giving and the set is just icing on the cake. Hopefully the scalper market just crashed and I can go to another show or two.
  8. QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ Sep 8 2012, 01:40 AM) This is going to be a world tour going through a good chunk of 2013. I can't possibly imagine they'll do another anniversary tour in 2014. I expect they'll take another extended break when this is done. Exactly. There may be an R40, but it won't be in 2014.
  9. QUOTE (upstateNYfan @ Sep 6 2012, 10:25 AM) Buying fake merchandise undermines the band and its associates who are authorized to sell the legitimate products. Buying unofficial (fake, bootlegged) merchandise is hollow. If you are attending a show to see the artist you support, why purchase something that they do not? Buying knockoffs is precisely like buying a fake watch or purse in NYC. You're kidding yourself. And citing a successful entertainer's wealth is completely irrelevant. Ripping them off is never ethical and is usually illegal. What if you do both?
  10. There are quite a number of albums/CDs with that title, most of which I have including this one. This was basically a somewhat creative attempt to promote Exit...Stage Left which from what I recall was used by at least one radio station as a means to give away tickets. (Not that this was it's intended purpose.) It doesn't really have a practical purpose as each song just fades out after two minutes, but at the time it was one of the few cool promotional items out there for collectors. Seems to be rarer now than it used to be. I haven't heard it mentioned all that often anymore. Hope this helps... QUOTE RUSH Rush 'N' Roulette (1981 US promotional limited edition 6-track vinyl sampler LP for the 'Exit Stage Left' album. This rare custom pressing has been uniquely mastered causing a completely random song occurence: simply place your tone arm on the edge as normal and when you let 'Rush N Roulette' spin there's an equal chance of playing any one of these six tracks. Spin and enjoy! Housed in a unique custom picture sleeve with instructions MK185).
  11. Too much. I'm probably downsizing or at least culling.
  12. I'd have lost consciousness halfway through the first set if I were in the house. Though I'd always hope, I'd never have expected anything this cool.
  13. What a Geddy Lee bass festival this is! I gotta find more money for an extra show. Looks like Alex's B-side tour (Or as B-side as it's ever going to get) finally happened! You can't be much further off the board for this it's AWESOME! What a freaking gift this is!
  14. Not me. 40 Rush shows over every US leg of every tour since 1986. Unless ticket prices start going the other way I may not even make it to 50. Marillion opening the March 31 and April 1 1986 shows with Misplaced Childhood was perfectly blissful.

Sigs look legit. But I think you've got a 12 by 12 album flat there and not a lithograph. (Check out the printing in the lower left corner. 16. QUOTE (Priest of Syrinx @ Jul 25 2012, 08:13 PM) Yeah, I agree that the mix is over-compressed, too much instrumentation fighting for the same sonic stage, the instruments don't enough room to breathe. The vinyl remedies this a little bit. Headlong Flight rocks! Bingo! And yet it still kicks my ass!
  17. QUOTE (robertrobyn @ Jul 24 2012, 05:02 PM) QUOTE (Tarkus406 @ Jul 24 2012, 02:01 PM) What exactly is that thing anyway? A sign? it is a record store display. 36"X36" Poster laminated on hard cardboard. I'd love to find one of those. I've got one from Snakes and Arrows, but it's more of a hard foam pressboard kind of thing.
  18. Because Paul Stanley didn't like it. The band may not look too fondly on it now, but Bastille Day and Lakeside Park were likely in almost every set they played from The Caress of Steel Tour until Hemispheres (And they through in The parts of the Necromancer in the UK before A Farewell To Kings came out). They were still supporting it almost three years after it came out so I'm not sure I buy that the band disowned the album like some have suggested. I think the album is a masterpiece. Most days I like it better than 2112. Not perfect of course, but one that was their first step to where they really wanted to go. It may not have helped that they album cover got screwed up. I'm sure it would have looked a whole lot better if the Rush -- Caress Of Steel LOOKED like STEEL as it was intended. I mean what would have happened with 2112 if the Red Star was brown by mistake?

Looks like someone found the Archives cover....
  20. QUOTE (Bangster of Goats @ Jul 18 2012, 07:20 PM) Love that ol' album... can't believe it's like 12 years old now! And Victor is about 16 years old now. Where does the time go!? I wish there would have been a Victor II as had been rumored there for a while.
  21. QUOTE (Ron2112 @ Jul 14 2012, 06:24 AM) QUOTE (ytserush @ Jul 13 2012, 04:37 PM) Was this MP3 sourced? Hard to say definitively, but it sounds like it might have been. Certainly, there are audible cuts between songs, and the frequency response isn't as nice as it is on some of the better bootlegs of this show. Thanks, Ron. Based on that representation I'll stick with the various versions of footware I have already that sound better. I really wanted to get this (CD and vinyl) since it's quasi-legit, but no way am I paying for Mp3s even though the packaging looks pretty cool.
  22. Barely a contest. Easily the last three for me and I LOVE Caress Of Steel
  23. I've also got some 8-track tapes, but I still think the most ridiculous thing I have is the sealed Chu-Bop bubble gum packaged in the Permanent Waves cover. Whose marketing idea was that?
