  1. QUOTE (Lerxster @ Jan 29 2009, 11:58 AM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Jan 28 2009, 12:27 AM)QUOTE (Mara @ Jan 27 2009, 11:23 PM) Sweet Miracle is the worst song on VT. It's the only song I skip over. Give it another listen you two. Concentrate only on the music, on Geddy's bass lines. Sweet Jesus, take it from this reformed SM disliker.. I have seen the light! Sweet Miracle is a really good song. All I am saying/Is give Sweet Miracle a chance. http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/67.gif Oh, and OOTC is a really good song too. VT is overall a great album. It's unfortunate the sound suffers from (insert term here). Sounds like a remix/master/whatever is in the cards. Someday. "It's unfortunate the sound suffers from (clipping)." This is from the Wiki page on VT: "As explained by Rip Rowan on the ProRec website, the damaged production is the result of overly-compressed (clipped) audio levels during mastering, though Rush have admitted that there was digital distortion during recording, which also contributed to the damage. Remastering the album would not correct the damage from digital distortion that was introduced during recording, but it could correct the other, more destructive damage that is the result of overly-compressing the audio during mastering." As far as OOTC goes: My wife and I love it enough to have derived our nicknames for this board from it (hers is RockTheCradle) and I think it's a good album closer. And, overall, I really like VT from a musical quality standpoint and wish the technical problems could be fixed to let its finer points stand out.
  2. QUOTE (nobodys hero @ Jan 29 2009, 09:17 AM) I missed it on Monday! Can someone give me an idea of what happened? Wow, um, a lot. The female FBI agent is now in the hands of the ex-CTU folks and should understand that Jack is not dirty; Mutobo (sp?) and his wife were being handed over to the other guy's men; Tony killed the guy who pulled him out of CTU and the bad Sangala guy created a midair collision within eyesight of the White House, killing some 200 people in the air and I don't recall a number of ground casualties. The bad Sangala guy is about to make his next move and unleash more havoc in the next episode.
  3. A light gray sweater with an alternating pattern of black and red dots on one level and green on the others, tan slacks and tennis shoes (one foot has been swollen lately).
  4. QUOTE (rhyv @ Jan 11 2009, 03:44 PM) QUOTE (skyswing @ Dec 20 2008, 11:23 AM) http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t71/towncrier86/Christmasphotoshoot086.jpg Last Saturday, RockTheCradle took this photo of Jadyn for our annual Christmas letter. I know it's a bit late but I just found this pic. Skyswing you've got a cute daughter. She's so happy in this pic that who looks at feels happy too. Thank you! She IS happy most of the time. And she's pretty smart, too!
  5. QUOTE (Rushian King @ Jan 3 2009, 09:57 AM) QUOTE (skyswing @ Jan 3 2009, 02:32 AM) P.S.: There's one scene in the movie which I think will go down as one of those timeless clips, especially in a retrospective on the actor involved. Which one? The scene where Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt are talking at night in a sort of rotunda area near water. She is dancing in silhouette. That's just a gorgeous scene from a cinematic standpoint.
  6. RockTheCradle and I saw it today. I thought it was very good. I'm not familiar with the original F. Scott Fitzgerald piece on which it's based, but - without going spoiler - I thought it wove significant historical events together well with a solid message of living the life you're given. RTC says this movie should get an Oscar for makeup. Absolutely. While there are some similarities to Forrest Gump, it is not a replication of that story. While emotion-laden like Forrest, this is much more deep and rich in the way it is done. I think this is one of the few movies I've seen in some time which breaks the current rut Hollywood finds itself in of a general lack of creativity. This had style, grace and I think overall sets itself up naturally as a future classic. P.S.: There's one scene in the movie which I think will go down as one of those timeless clips, especially in a retrospective on the actor involved. Also, I'm glad they included some specific New Orleans flavor. There's a plug for Community Coffee in the movie - I love their coffee and chicory product.
  7. QUOTE (sundog @ Jan 1 2009, 07:47 AM) Welcome to TRF, please don't mind the mess, eh. We had quite the party in here last night ~ for the new year and all. Try to keep it down, some peeps might still be sleeping (we're all in different time zones) Please don't step on any piles of what appears to be blankets.... could be someone passed out on the floor after the chat party. Mind the crumbs on your barefeet - we haven't divvied up the chores to clean up yet either.... The refridgerator is semi full, the restroom is the first door on the right, up the stairs, and if the seat could remain in the down position, us ladies would be very appreciative. Enjoy yourself here You are so right sunny! (And Happy New Year!) We - my entire family (little one included) were up for the Eastern and Central Time Zone celebrations and our good friends in chat (most of whom were either in Eastern or Mountain time) hung out with us to celebrate the change in Central. We appreciate that very much. So yeah, Peculiar, we had a chat version of a New Year's Eve blowout. So, 'scuze the mess. We'll get back to "normal" whatever that is soon!
  8. QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Dec 31 2008, 02:16 PM) Rush fans in general are peculiar. welcome aboard. Right on, CT! Welcome, Peculiar!
  9. QUOTE (Alsgalpal @ Dec 25 2008, 12:36 PM) Band of Brothers I bought this movie set for Eric for his Christmas gift. I couldn't wait to give it too him (he got it early), and we just finished the last part, last night. I could go on about the excellent blu-ray definition with the awesome surround sound. Eric and I both jumped quite a few times when mortars would explode. The acting was incredible, and I found myself getting attached to the characters and would be sad when one would be injured or would be killed. I found myself incredibly thankful for the men and women risking their lives for us and others. This series is worth more than that. This series had some of the characters talking at the beginning of each episode. Talking of their experience. Of the horrors. Of the bond between men. It makes me take a step back and reflect on what they went through. I can only imagine the horrors. The gut eating fear. The numbness that sets in when you don't think you will live to take in another sunrise. These young people started in the military as boys and emerged men. Heroes. People that I will always hold in high esteem. Watching someone you love and depend on die in your arms as they gasp for breath through blood laden lungs. Crying out for their mother when they see a limb lying detached from their bodies or worse, their entrails. The emotion that they must have experienced as they came upon the death camps must have been almost unbearable. I sobbed. Can you imagine holding your father or your brother as they passed on from disease, hunger or thirst? Barely able to hold them up? Wondering if your wife, mother or tiny baby sister was in the camp down the road and suffering the same fate? Bitter cold. Gnawing aching hunger, and thirst that caused your head to pound and your speech to become thick. Terrified that you would suffer the same fate of someone you saw burning in their shelter; or perhaps clawing and screaming as they drew burning poison into their lungs. This wasn't in my lifetime, but I still feel the effects. Maybe not so profound as those that lived to see it actually happening. Where would we be without our military? We wouldn't have what we do now. Maybe we would be speaking another language. We would be told who or what to worship, even if it was against our personal beliefs. We would be told what kind of political party to support and wouldn't be able to speak against it lest we were shot in the head. We wouldn't be able to do a job that we loved, or live as opulent as some do. We wouldn't have the choice. We wouldn't be able to speak against the leader of our country. We would face death if we did. I want to thank all of those that make the conscious decision to enlist in a military entity. The sacrifice is beyond my scope of comprehension. Thank you for our freedom. Thank you for others freedom. What a beautiful post. Thank you for writing from your heart. As for the series, I think it's one of the best, most incredible and most important projects ever undertaken. It is largely true to the book and the actors bring the real men to life on the screen. It is important to me because - though my late father wasn't a paratrooper - he did serve in the European theater was wounded in action almost 64 years ago in the Battle of the Bulge. Getting a genuine taste from this series of what he and many other men like him went through in this battle is very valuable to me. I encourage anyone old enough to watch it to do so. It's well worth your time. Thanks again to all of our nation's warfighters past and present - especially those on duty and particularly those away from their families today.
  10. I forgot Sam's Vietnam rant had some salty language. Had the little one around. Oops! Still a great scene in a great movie!

  12. Heck no, you're not the only "Life" fan in the universe! Good show. Been a Damien Lewis fan since "Band of Brothers." But this is a totally different character and an intriguing overall story line.
  13. QUOTE (kyleargyle @ Sep 30 2008, 10:50 AM) Definitely Plattoon. Love Willem Dafoe in that. There are things I like about Platoon. I'm routinely known to shout "King!" when I see or hear Keith David, the actor who played King. He does a good amount of voice over work and can be heard in the recent U.S. Navy recruiting ads.
  14. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 27 2008, 09:56 AM) Aw, man. Very sad news. What an amazing actor, what a legacy. Thanks for all the great movies, sir. Rest in peace. "Goin' to Heaven here, boss." "Awright, Luke, go on. We'll miss ya." Very nice, Jack. Thanks. Yeah, this is the first time I've shed tears at the loss of a celebrity in some time. P.S.: There is no failure to communicate here.
  15. There's a couple of other movies that I would say are low-budget but nevertheless interesting: "84C Mopic" and "Seige of Firebase Gloria." The first one doesn't have too many recognizable names, except Richard Brooks. "Seige" includes R. Lee Ermey.
  16. QUOTE (Marathonist @ Sep 18 2008, 01:36 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 18 2008, 01:01 PM) 'We Were Soldiers'. I got to meet Hal Moore once, about 15 years ago after the book was first published. I was dating an Army captain at the time and went as his date to the Infantry Ball at Fort Benning. Moore was the keynote speaker. Since my boyfriend worked as the Commander General's aide, I got to personally meet Moore and shake his hand. I am afraid I was a little starstruck! *edited for typos Cool Hal Moore stories from both Jack and Marathonist. I have a lot of respect for the man after having seen the movie. I would say "We were Soldiers" is my favorite Vietnam movie, though the opening scenes cost me at least one chick flick.
  17. Sorry y'all. This is the second time I've posted another thread this week. My apologies. But I'll repeat the video link I posted from the and add video on him. RIP, Don!
  18. QUOTE (tangy @ Sep 2 2008, 01:57 PM) I really liked his work, both acting and his singing. I second that. RIP Jerry! P.S.: Since I'd heard last night Jerry passed, I'd been thinking about my favorite Jerry song. Thanks for the link, Jack Aubrey - the video reminded me that "Amos Moses" was indeed my top Jerry tune. Plus, he did a great job in the acting parts I'd seen him in, including the "Smokey" movies and "The Waterboy." I didn't realize he was in "Bat 21," though I'd only seen parts of that movie.
  19. QUOTE (rushbass @ Aug 2 2008, 08:49 AM) Hey skyswing, I am hoping I can cut my grass today... it's been raining down here on the coast all week... Still have a 40% chance of rain here today, but for now, it is still off shore. I've looked at y'all's forecast down there and even with the rain, it sure is a lot more tolerable than what have up here!
  20. A large patch of the Central and Southern U.S. is under a heat advisory today, which means stay cool and stay indoors as much as possible. The region under the advisory includes most of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska and Mississippi along with northeast Texas and portions of southwestern Iowa, west and south Tennessee and north Alabama. Coastal South Carolina - and a few locations in southern North Carolina and eastern Georgia - are under a similar advisory. Here in east central Mississippi, we have a predicted high of 100F/38C with an expected heat index of 107F/42C. I've already cut the grass this morning and don't plan to do much else outside today.
  21. We've been back from the theater about 45 minutes and I think I'm still like, wow! I think one could make a case for it being one of the best films ever made - Top 10. Yeah, Heath is what sends it over the top but there are so many great things about it. Excellent film!
  22. With about 10 minutes to go before 9 a.m., the air temperature here is 81F/27C with a "feels like" of 84F/29C. It's gonna be a roaster today!
  23. I know I'd heard "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight" through the early months of 1981. The one time I know I can say for sure that I heard what was either "Tom Sawyer" or "Limelight" was on a bus with a bunch of other Boy Scouts as we were driving through Washington, D.C. on some field trips around the time of the National Jamboree. I'm sure the station we were listening to was DC 101. I was 13 at the time. EDIT: Hey Tupelo! 2 User(s) are reading this topic (0 Guests and 0 Anonymous Users): skyswing, tupelobarchetta
  24. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ May 21 2008, 12:47 PM) http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x280/rushgirl108/ToplessGeddy.jpg Okay that is SO Photoshopped!
  25. QUOTE (Mr. Mojo Risin' @ May 20 2008, 08:23 PM) Hot McHotterson OK, to each his own! As for last night's episode, I thought it was fantastic - a heart-gripping tale that just wouldn't stop. I already liked "House" but it moved up a notch for me after that.
