  1. With all the talk of Clockwork Angels, Headlong Flight, Pre-sales woes (and successes), etc., I thought I'd share just a simple little good old-fashioned "Rush Sighting"...one that is probably new only to me. I was watching a BNL concert - "Talk to the Hand" live from Michigan circa 2008 - on Netflix the other day. Ed Robertson (pretty sure that's his name, plays guitar and splits lead vocals with...the other guy who plays guitar and splits lead vocals...Steven Page??) was wearing t-shirt with a Farewell To Kings era picture of Rush on it. Made me smile. http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/references/BNLtalktohandshirt.jpg
  2. QUOTE (littledrummerboy @ Apr 20 2012, 08:58 AM)[snipped] All in all, I think it has more of a cohesive flow and the average radio listener would probably enjoy it more than the extended version. I can see the fullblown 7:20 version being a bit meaty for the average non-Rush fan radio listening audience to chew on. Get 'em pumped by the shorter (and by some reports "more punchier") version, get 'em thinking "Holy crap, this new Rush is amazing", get 'em to buy the CD on June 12, and get Rush their elusive #1 record!! Yeah, I know...that doesn't matter these days (except it still kind of does to me). - TMD
  3. ...any thoughts about the fact that the 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 symbols on the cover appear to be partially obscured by the clouds? http://www.rockcellarmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/rush-clockwork-angels-album-cover.jpg
  4. QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 11 2012, 08:37 AM) QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Apr 11 2012, 08:34 AM) UK Release Date 11.06.2012 ? I know you people are behind the times and all but shit 11.06.2012 in UK-Speak = 6/11/2012 in US-Speak ...and if you knew that and were just busting on him, well, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, so my apoligies...
  5. http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2012/04/10...ur-rumor-update hmmm...not sure what to think about this. While I strongly prefer indoor shows to outdoors shows, the "orchestra" bit is...intriguing. Of course, this is all to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt, but sure to spur discussion nonetheless. - TMD
  6. Nice review. I'm looking forward to the rest of them...hope you have the stamina to keep going! Fly By Night (the song), in my opinion, has not "aged" very well. 5.5 for Rivendell is generous. When Neil talks in later interviews about comparing Rush's early work to the kindergarten artwork a parent hangs on the fridge, this is the song that always pops into my mind. In the End, on the other hand, I absolutely LOVE. Very high on my "wish they'd play this live" list. TMD
  7. Trying to limit it to just five... - The West Wing - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Happy Days - Battlestar Galactica (reboot) - The Cosby Show
  8. Spring/Summer 2012 Release Clockwork Angels - debuts at #5, is #25 in week 2, #57 in week 3, and out of the top 100 by week 4 - Hardcore fans love it (...or hate it...) Fall 2012/Winter 2012-2013 CA Tour, featuring 2112 (side 1) Fall 2013 Obligatory Live DVD/CD of CA Tour Spring/Summer 2014 R40/Farewell Tour After that: Neil - Fulltime writer, fuller time curmudgeon Alex - Actor/Music Producer Geddy - Producer/Philanthropist The band is never inducted into the RRHOF
  9. In theaters? Hugo (very good, but overrated) At home? Winter's Bone (very good but depressing)
  10. I also recall hearing that the 1980 St. Louis show was an official recording for a radio broadcast (King Biscuit Flower Hour?? Could be wrong about this). The best sounding "legitimate boot" (yes, I get the oxymoron) I've heard is Over the Europe from the RTB tour.
  11. QUOTE (Keyz @ Jan 11 2012, 08:29 PM) Thanks for the post, thank you Neil! It's worth saying that Neil is sounding very reflective, yet still living in the moment. Completely agree. I found this to be one of his most poignant and informative updates yet. The section about Freddie Gruber, in particular the copy of the letter he wrote to Freddie from England after Salena's death, was incredibly moving. The folks who didn't like his views on religion before are still not going to like them...whatever. There's a heck of a lot more substance in this update than those bits. And not for nothing, but I am now completely jazzed about the new album.
  12. QUOTE (NobodysHeroine @ Dec 29 2011, 01:58 PM)...snipped... I was only eight years old, ...snipped... This makes me feel f'ing ancient.
  13. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Dec 12 2011, 10:04 PM) Wish I could figure out the significance of the numbers for Syracuse! Or why there's no gate number. Maybe it's not clear how to get here? I could believe that! I'm guessing that one of the people who created/produced the ad graduated from Syracuse in 1995. And no gate because, maybe, who in their right mind wants to go to Syracuse in 2011??
  14. To be fair, this isn't really a "Here we go again" kind of thing, since we knew Rush weren't getting in when they were left off the finalists list several months ago. That said, no reason to pass up on an opportunity to sh!t on the RRHOF. That that said, one of the "non artist" inductees this year is owed a debt of gratitude by every artist who has been professionally recorded since the late '50s. Tom Dowd, as a recording engineer at Atlantic Records, pioneered the use of 8-track recording machines, integrated "sliders" into recording boards (quite literally opening up a new world of recording/mixing possibilities over the old EQ knobs), helped define the signature sounds of a diverse array of Atlantic Records artists (Cream, Chicago, Allman Brothers Band, etc.), etc. There is a great documentary about Tom and his work/contributions, "Tom Dowd & the Language of Music". I'm just a tin-eared music fan, but loved this documentary. That that that said...GnR?? Really?? Sigh...
  15. Analog Kid all the way. Great music, up front guitar (on an album that very much lacks up front guitar), and one of Neil's best lines ever: "A fawn-eyed girl with sun-browned legs dances on the edge of his dreams."
  16. Love the NHL because not only is it the greatest sport in the world, but they almost always play Rush music in the arena at some point during the game. Case in point - Philly vs. Boston tonight, Limelight ~9 minutes into the 2nd period.
  17. I never heard Rush referred to as "heavy metal"...especially during that period.
  18. Even though this is in the wrong thread, I'll bite. I remember seeing REM back in 1989 (??) when I was living in Oklahoma City, and coming away feeling distinctly unimpressed. I enjoyed many of their songs, but as a live band they brought nothing to the stage. Michael Stipe was unlit (as in no spotlight on him) the whole show and spent most of it with his back to the audience.
  19. Isn't that one of the great things about Rush?? That different people can listen to the exact same song and come away with a completely different feeling about it? I happen to like Dog Years more the I Think I'm Going Bald (even though much of the lyrics are cringe-worthy). However, neither are their worst. That honor goes to the steaming pile of ---- called Rivendell. If that was the first Rush song I had ever heard, it would have also been the last. Disagree? That's fine...reread first two sentences.
  20. QUOTE (Draco @ Aug 25 2011, 11:07 AM)Geddy Lee and Neil Peart have donated signed items to those recovering from the tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri earlier this year. In the Music Aid for Joplin auction event on August 24, 2011, Geddy donated an Orange CR50BXT bass amp, while Neil donated a complete set of signed Sabian cymbals. http://www.rushweb.net/2011/08/geddy-lee-a...ornado-victims/ I love it when Rush does stuff like this. It's funny, though, because if you only read the first line. "Geddy Lee and Neil Peart have donated signed items to those recovering from the tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri earlier this year", it's pretty funny. Tornado Victim: "I've lost everything. In the blink of an eye, my life has been turned upside down." Geddy: "I really feel bad for you. Here, have an amp!" Anywhoo, this is a great thing and I hope it raises some money to help those who so desparately need it.
