  1. The doctor may be able to prescribe a nicotine patch. That's what they did for my dad.
  2. Hey thanks everyone! I totally forgot this had passed by! 14 years, good lord, that's amazing! Thanks to all the friends I've made over the years!
  3. Lorraine, you're not alone. Serving as the caretaker of a stroke victim is incredibly difficult, but you will make it. The days ahead are going to be frustrating, but the anger will eventually subside. You will get back to a normal. Aphasia is hard to cope with, and it's going to try your patience as much as it tries your husband's. Certain words, certain ideas will help to anchor you through it. Find the things that do work, and use those as guideposts to help build understanding when the words fail. There's probably going to be a few stages of therapy and rehabilitation ahead. Stick to whatever you can do. Aphasia scrambles a lot of the pathways in the brain, but generally leaves the knowlege and understanding in tact. Your husband is going to have to build new paths between the ideas in his mind. It's like walking across a grassy field. If it's the first time you've walked across it, you won't leave an impression; but after days and weeks and months of following that same course, you will create new paths for his mind to follow. Practice, practice, practice. Flash cards and visual dictionaries can help a lot in working your way through word association practice. But keep the mind working. The coming days are going to be filled with a lot of exhaustion. His brain is going to be stressed, and he will need a ton of sleep. And yours will too. Take care of yourself. Find time for yourself, read a book, listen to music. Do anything- even if for just an hour a day- to disconnect. Do not be ashamed to acknowledge that you are suffering this stroke too, and do not be ashamed to do little things for own wellbeing. There's going to come times of frustration for both you and your husband. You can't be afraid to lead. If your husband is anything like my Dad, he's going to get stubborn and cranky through this process. He's going through hell, but you don't have to put up with everything he may lash out with. Do not be afraid to assert yourself. Do not fall into thinking that pity and sympathy preclude you from standing your ground. Remind him that you're on his side; and that without you, he'd be in much more trouble than he is in. Just please, do not feel guilty about sticking up for yourself when things go sideways. Things sometimes needs to be said, and I know very well how unpleasant it can be. Lorraine, I'm in your corner. We all are. You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and you're going to own it. You'll find your way through this. If you need anything, we are here for you. Please lean on us. Please take care of yourself. Sending all my love.
  4. I'm slowly working my way through The Outer Worlds. Really enjoyable RPG storytelling in a fun and interesting dystopian future. A loving throwback to some of the older Fallout titles.
  5. If you close your eyes, you could almost imagine Neal Morse performing the song this way.
  6. Unbelievable. Screw Green Bay. The only constants in life are death, taxes, and those Lambeau refs...
  7. I just want to drink a bucket of hibernol and wake up in January. I can't wait for this!

  9. Resonance has grown on me more and more. I think I might like it more than their debut at this point. Wildest Dreams and Heart and Soul have really grown on me in particular.
  10. Eventually you'll get to my third post in this thread where I address *this* criticism. Does you computer load all the posts for you or are they being delayed somehow? There's clearly a distinction between a long time member posting a work of original art and someone who joins only to post ads for their creations. But you failing to see this difference isn't my problem. I was going to welcome you 'back', as I haven't exchanged posts with you in a while, but I suspect the feeling of brotherhood isn't mutual. They shared something that they thought this community would like. I don't care if that is akin to advertising, they were right. Read my third reply. And really, my second reply. Or beat the dead horse. ;) You keep referring people back to your earlier posts, which don't do anything to dismiss what's being stated. So if you're not willing to continue the conversation, you can just bow out- what you've stated has been read and hasn't satisfied the argument.
  11. And also, I know advertising is unpopular but it's pretty much a necessity of life. You can't pretend like your own life isn't connected to, and benefiting from self-promotion. At least for a band like YYNOT, the product being advertised is a sincere and beautiful one.

  13. Thought it may not be as good as their first, YYNOT is definitely casting a little more of their own sound here. It's got a little bit more balls than the first album, and pushes a few more creative envelopes. Open Book and She Said I Love The Rain are immediate stand out tracks. This one's gonna make my regular rotation alongside the first. Love this band.
  14. The follow up album from Rush tribute band YYNOT just (somewhat unexpectedly) dropped. I'm downloading my copy right now and will deeper back after I've listened. Can't wait to hear it!
  15. I haven't seen it myself yet, but there was some kind of 'thank you' card that was signed by the cast of Picard after filming completed for the film crew; and a picture of it ended up on Twitter. People are saying you can make out Michael Dorn's signature on it. Are we getting a Worf appearance? I just hope they don't mess up his head.
  16.
  17. Tonight's was my favorite race of the year. No part of this race fell short for me. I'm not a huge Hamlin fan, but the finish was satisfying. Hamlin is almost turning into the new Matt Kenseth of the sport. He's quiet and got a reserved image. He's pulled a few stunts in his career, but never anything too rough. He knows the score, and races like a man. I have to give him mad respect, despite not having always been a fan. I wanted like hell to see DiBenedetto win, and I feel the disappointment there. But that's the kind of struggle NASCAR needs. Fenders were not crushed and hands were not thrown. The better car won, but only after an incredible battle for it. There was passing throughout the field all night, and each was difficult. The side by side action was amazing. There was enough pit strategy to force thoughtfulness, but enough green flag space to let it be about racers. This was an amazing race on all fronts. This is what NASCAR needs to be.

  19. Two weeks ago, I was golfing with my uncle who suggested that I'm sacrificing distance by choking up on the grip a little too far. So I went to the range a few times and worked and worked on backing up a bit and getting a little more out of my swing; but I just kept spraying everything off the toe, especially my irons. Saturday came around and I went out to golf again, since my 'new swing' hadn't been working out, decided I was going to revert back to my normal grip. But everything's out of whack now. I had an atrocious round, and I can't seem to get my swing back! I'm in a big scramble tournament on the 24th later this month, and I need to get this ironed out by then! I feel like I've destroyed my game. Anyone else ever try tinkering with their swing, and end up screwing themselves up??
  20. Here's to the Losers Phil Collins
  21. Good Lord, forgive me for not sticking to the Beatles and Prince... :eyeroll: I figured people at The Rush Forum would be a little more up to speed on modern Prog Rock... I'll answer my own. Milliontown Boston
