I think more Rush fans (especially those who like seventies RUSH) would like this band. If you only know their radio hits you are in for a real surprise if you listen to this or their other earlier albums. They put an American spin on English prog rock.Yes, this is the one with "Carry on wayward son" but really the whole album is excellent.
  2. Thanks. You don't want someone trying to buy the album on amazon or wherever and then not being able to because they can't find it. :P
  3. RE: #50 Frank Zappa- Freak OUt. That is actually a Mother's of Invention album not a Frank Zappa solo album so you might want to fix that when you get a chance. ;)
  4. 71. Octopus-Gentle Giant They had a lot of great albums but this is my personal favorite. A must have for any serious prog fan.
  5. Their singer(who's actually no longer with them)Benoit David was the lead singer for YES for a few years(taking Jon Anderson's place after he got sick). I have a couple of Mystery cds but haven't actually listened to them yet.
  6. Even though I think he's very talented and I like him to some degree I'll say Eric Clapton. I prefer Jeff Beck and think he's under rated especially compared to Clapton who I think is over rated.
  7. I like it. I think it's more solid than S&A and in fact imo it's their best album since Counterparts.
  8. Wow. I would have wanted to have watched that just to hear that. I sometimes watch football but not regularly. It depends on my mood.
  9. I kind of lost track of Rush at some point so don't know the later albums that well. So with that in mind my list will consist almost entirely of their earlier material(70's and 80's). I apologize if that offends or upsets anyone but I have to vote for what I know the best. In no order: Hemispheres (side long track) Marathon Turn the Page Roll the Bones ( I tried to "throw a bone" for some of the later fans.Lol) Witch Hunt Camera Eye Natural Science Jacobs Ladder La Villa Strangiato Necromancer I could probably list another ten. And so I will.Lol. War Paint Far Cry 2112 (suite) Closer to the heart Circumstances Different Strings Open Secrets Distant Early Warning Subdivisions Chemistry YYZ Oops looks like that's 11. Oh well.
  10. This is the kind of question I would ask the younger folks over at the YESfans forum. LOL. Rush seem to have some kind of hipster street cred which makes them appeal to younger fans that most prog bands don't have(Dream Theater and Pink Floyd being two exceptions). Anyway, I won't answer officially for myself because I'm way too old. Lol.
  11. No, but I would like to see another full on progressive rock album with maybe some jazz influences on it.
  12. If I had the chance to go out with a female RUSH fan or a woman who liked the same kind of music in general as me and I liked her then that would be cool but I'm not holding my breath. I think I'd have a better chance of getting struck by lightning.
  13. Well technically Leukemia but apparently that's a type of cancer that starts in the bone marrow and affects the blood cells. Regardless, this is very sad news for me personally as a huge YES fan. I got into RUSH in a heavy way right around the same time I got into YES(mid eighties)so both bands are very special to me. Of course Chris is one of the all time greatest bass players. He will be sorely missed. Unfortunately it's difficult for me to listen to any YES now. RIP Chris.
  14. I would say that "take a friend" is at least better than "need some love." My least favorite song from the debut is "here again." I thought that song would grow on me and I would learn to like it but it never quite happened. Just a dull song that is trying to be something it isn't.
  15. We all have our opinions about what is under rated or not. Typically, if you really like a song and either never heard it live or never heard it on the radio then I think you can call it under rated. Anyway, how about Bravado or Armor and Sword?
  16. I consider those songs to be a little bit under rated. Ok, maybe not with most hardcore fans. Then again most of the songs I listed probably aren't under rated among most hardcore fans. Lol.
  17. Please forgive me if this has been posted before but I'm brand new here so I didn't see it. ;) Anyway, I was thinking about this the other day. Here is my top 10(no order): 1. Turn the Page 2. Chemistry 3. Red Tide 4. Warpaint 5. Open Secrets 6. The Big Wheel 7. Circumstances 8. The Weapon 9. Different Strings 10. In the End (maybe my favorite from FBN) To be honest I could probably add another five songs but I had to draw the line somewhere. I think most of the songs on Grace Under Pressure are pretty under rated too so it would be hard to pick just one from that album. Also, a few from Power Windows especially territories and emotion detector and of course a few from Hold your fire.
  18. RUSH, YES but also Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Kansas etc. In other words all the usual suspects. I basically just like good music though.
  19. I didn't really see any specific place for new members to introduce themselves so I assume I can do it here. Anyway, I just officially joined today(or at least was officially approved today). I've been a RUSH fan for about 30 years or so. I bought signals on cassette tape soon after it came out but didn't really get into them until I discovered my brother's friend was a big fan and it made me want to explore more(this was in the mid eighties). I soon borrowed his tapes and eventually bought my own(either on tape or cd). I actually went to my first RUSH concert with the same guy in the fall of 1987 on the Hold your Fire tour. My interest in music is as follows. As a kid I really only knew about the Beatles. Then at age 111/2 or so I got big into pop music and bought 45's. About a year later I got more into mainstream rock and the band I was most interested in was Led Zeppelin. I eventually bought all their stuff. Soon after this I got into YES and then RUSH. It was the more exploratory sounds and adventurous nature of these bands that interested me more than the rocking parts although being into Led Zeppelin I was ok with the harder edge qualities as well. Over all I consider myself a prog rock fan first and foremost. However, RUSH is a band that although they obviously swam in progressive waters for a while they are a band that has delved into other areas as well and that's something that makes them stand out. They are willing to test themselves and try new things. Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of this forum. It seems like a great place.
  20. ^ Or afterimage. The thing is Geddy never met Chris although he was as mentioned a huge influence.
  21. I was at the Philly show too. It was pretty spectacular but then again RUSH never disappoints. My seat was way, way back so I had a good view from far away but had to rely on the screens to see anything close up. I would love to see them again but if I don't then I'm ok with this being the last show I've seen by them. Yeah it was a bit bittersweet if that's the case but all good things must come to an end.
  22. Ignore them if you can and just move on to the next customer. All that you can do is wish them well. ;)
  23. RUSH and YES are probably my two favorite bands of all time if I had to pick just two. I just saw Rush for the fourth time but have seen YES about ten times. For the longest time YES was at the top of my list probably but these days I don't like choosing favorites. Anyway, this is very sad news. I never learned to play the bass guitar but he is one of the greatest bass players of all time and was truly his own player. Geddy mentioned him as a big influence which doesn't suprise me one bit. Anyway, I'm a bit surprised at the news even though I knew he had leukemia. Also, kind of strange that my first post on a RUSH fan website would be about the passing of someone from another band but YES was a very important band in my discovery and deepening of rock in general and particularly progressive rock music. RIP the fish.
