  1. 2112 cover....meh....love the album...but eh? Permanent Waves...one of my all time favs... Moving Pictures....just great...iconic... Farewell to Kings..better than Hemispheres...but I was never freaked by a dudes butt....Id been to museums quite a bit and took it as artistic liberty....now I understand its got some pretense to it... Roll the Bones...was simply a great cover....much better than Presto which felt like a PW rehash in a weird way.... Grace Under Pressure still love its dystopian theme....still like it better than Windows artwork Signals...loved it immediately....many in my high school hated it immediately....it was clean and fresh...I see the Twin Peaks reference...or at least David Lynch since Peaks was like 1990.... I still love Exit Stage Left....sure its a mashup...but Rush never before had done that....so it came across as cool...especially at the time...remember buying it at NRM monroeville mall..... Clockwork Angels and Snakes have better artwork in the lyric books than the front cover itself....Clockwork being by far a better cover though... HYF...still don't like it...same with "Rush" other than the nostalgic classic font which I do like...but the cover?
  2. Suspiria....saw that movie years ago.....;)
  3. http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o371/x1yyz/venn_zpszzy7uegv.jpg Now that says it all!!! Its fantastic!
  4. I've gotten the impression many if not most of the people complaining about his writing are not in the same group as those who are actually reading his writing....which is kind of a strange and interesting thing when you think about it for awhile.... Someone needs to draw up a Venn diagram so we can sort this out..;)
  5. Its my understanding the rumored title will be "Old Bones A Rollin"...it was agreed upon after Neil rejected the Hugh Syme artwork for the original working title.."Older Boners Rolling"...a title no one other than perhaps Ray was very enthused about....
  6. Still no one has any pics to share?
  7. Well I think he's just telling us he's working on a book. I'm glad for that. He seems to be hinting at a lot more than a new book. The last two paragraphs tell us that Rush is done touring. Yeah....honestly it couldn't have been any more obvious...then he commented on his Moms feelings...?....
  8. Stainer is good friends with my brother....actually my brother is good friends with John and Ian....love their stuff..!
  9. Nope...its not Rush....not a fan of rotating replacements....call it something else if that happens....its next to impossible to decide what the band "Yes" is......that's one thing Rush has had all these years....I don't want a Rush cheesfest band.....
  10. Oh no doubt there are drummers beyond Neils level who would chomp at the bit to do it.... But......that's not Rush.....and I wouldn't be thrilled with the prospect either.....nah.
  11. Yeah reading this has colored my opinion....the soloing article made me think.."See...NP is excited about playing"....this article with the Jack Black reference made me think.....shit. NP may feel he's done all with drumming he possibly can ( he hasn't but I get it)......
  12. There is no such thing as a "real rock drum configuration ".... There are drum sets that work ergonomically and drum sets that don't ...NP decided long ago the old set up didn't ... Did Bonham play a "jazz" set...? Does Billy Cobham play a "Rock" set up?....Are cocktail set ups only allowed for cocktail jazz... What about Slim Jim From stray cats? He played standing up?
  13. I completely agree with you, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. I'd be all for it. They didn't really know too much when they recorded A Farewell To Kings. They just did it. This is true also....good point AFTKs.....
  14. I guess I missed that "young" part when I posted....but hell...no I didn't....I'm young cause I say so.....age ain't a number.
  15. YYZ played backwards reveals.."I buried Paul"... which I never understood since he wasn't even in the band...
  16. I was a big fan of kiss when I was around 12...wait back up...when I was 5 I used to nag my Mom to play the London cast original concept album for Jesus Christ Superstar...the one with Ian Gillian....back to Kiss...I got tired of them after a couple years...got into Zep...began playing drums at 11-12 so started listening to more than Kiss...bought Modern Drummer with NP cover ( PW era hemispheres cover)...teacher told me to check em out...got PW when it was new...loved it...clean sounds..technically sharp...concept stuff ( remember I loved JCS)...been a fan since 1980.....
  17. Peart has a great love of jazz...but he simply does not swing...an absolute neccesity to play jazz....his improv isn't there either....I'm also not so sure that Lee and Lifeson are particularly good at those things either....Rush has loosened up in recent times....especially live...but those needed elements are not the same as what Rush has done.... Players jamming and creating over let's say a day throwing out what they don't like to make a five minute song is not the same and creating stuff in the moment live that sounds rehearsed for months...it just isn't.
  18. Upfront drums are fine.....my problem with FBN is the extreme overdampening..."thump thump thumpity tud thum"....the fills in Bytor sound like a damn pillow fight.... Neil went with less and less dampening...the DWs sustain like crazy....but Nick final mixes bury hat fact...just watch the S&A making of thing and notice how much more natural sustain there is... Drum sounds like FBN work in two contexts..70s rock...or someone trying to be retro...that's it...live drums work in every context you can think of....
  19. I thought Eric Carr was great.....even parts of the Elder were listenable ....but I tried last year to check it out...."Oh Mr Blackwell..you can go to hell"... LOL I'll never really dislike Kiss don't get me wrong... How did you feel about the handling of RRHOF...?
  20. I loved Kiss when I was 10...saw em in 1978 when I was 11 on the Alive 2 tour...Jan 13 1978... by fall the solo lps came out...uh..oh....by Oct "Kiss Meets the Phantom"... mild embarassment...by Dynasty in 79 I didn't even feel bad for not going to see em...I was 12 and knew they peaked...started listening to Zeppelin...Rainbow with Cozy Powell on drums...then discovered Rush...paid no attention to Kiss until 96 reunion...by the 80s Kiss was flat out terrible...and I was exploring everything from Zappa to Weather Report to the Police...Missing Persons...Dixie Dregs...Fusion....punk..Souxsie and the Banchees...I couldn't return to Kiss.... In truth Kiss never got any better than early 1978.... the Elder made me laugh...like they saw the sucess of Rush and Floyd and said "let's try that" ...a concept album with no concept.... I thought Kiss royally screwed up with their rrhof induction too....play for the fans..who cares if its six guys...just do it...but no their petty battles ate em alive again...just like in the 70s.....kiss and van halen trip over their own dicks more than any bands I can think of really....
  21. As much as I can hear the flaws with VT...not the remix....no way do Rush or FBN sound better overall...especially not better than Clockwork....the drum sound of FBN alone is abysmal....duct taped dead as hell slingerland close miking awfulness.... Rush needs to get away from meathead psuedo metal dude producers....Rush shouldn't be aiming for a nu metal sound but should have someone like Steven Wilson..Robert Fripp...Andy Summers...in the booth....some maturity to go with the muscle....and quit brickwalling the shit already...

    Is it Over?

Yeah but Rush hasn't stood still or stuck to any single mantra ever.... Would anyone be shocked if they did record again and say..." well...we used to feel our music was all about the live execution of the material...but we've found we love the creative aspect as much if not more""... I know I would nt fall over reading a quote like that. Also while yes...Rush has hit some milestones...but......if you are to believe them that has never been the central driver of the band...ever...I'm sure the external recognition is great after all these years...but some of that felt begruding in a sense..." yeah we'll finally let em in RRHOF..yeah well put em on Rolling Stone"..... Its much like its been for a damn long time...Lee and Lifeson wanting to do more....Peart disliking touring...all three working well once everyone is convinced its time to work... I really think if they are to record more.(..can't see em waiting 4 years to do it either...uhhh uh..nope...they are in their 60s...not their 30s 40s or even 50 anymore).it will be within the next year Id guess....chops slide when you take off that long at that age. I see no indication from GL or AL that they want to quit...NP is silent....that's 2/3s of the equation right there with Lee very much wanting to continue and Lifeson saying basically "we'll be back".....

    Is it Over?

Bill Bruford, somebody Neil admires and is friends with, retired in 2009 at age 60. Can't get more drummer's drummer than that! :) True I hear ya but he's an outlier....even Phil Collins I believe has come back in some capacity post retirement. I have a feeling NP actually does still love playing...its the touring part he dislikes.:)
  24. I wanted to get a hat...guess I have to fork out..ohhhh 36 dollars for that then....
  25. The band is done? News to me...many others I suspect as well...especially the band themselves.
