Interesting points. Madness were more associated with the SKA movement, along with bands like the Specials, although both genres rose to prominence around the same time. Bands like the Jam and even the Police, were tagged with the punk label early on. As for the Clash, they began as part of the punk movement, but evolved musically, pretty quickly. The same thing can be said about the Stranglers and Magazine. For me, Punk was always short, sharp, fast angry songs. No fuss. No solos.

It's really great that you are showing your son so much of your country. Even in Europe, many kids never get to leave their own city, which is such a pity.- 112 replies

Favorite type of venue to see music live?
foghorn-leghorn replied to fraroc's topic in Music Of The Spheres
All my best concert experiences have been in Theater sized venues. I always prefer actually being able to see the band I have paid for. Club gigs are good as long as they are pretty much full, and you have a much better chance of actually meeting the act in person. Also, there tends to be little or no security to spoil your fun, and the bands tend to be more relaxed in that environment. The larger the venue the more chance the sound will be crap, and a bigger risk of encountering some jerk who is pissing people off. Outdoor gigs come with the added risk of adverse weather. -
As a Scot living away from home, this can bring a tear to a glass eye. Funnily enough, it;s based on an old Scottish sailor's poem as he pines for his homeland.

Could the drums be reminding you ever so slightly of 2112 at about 2.15 ? I can see this thread may attract some differences of opinion to say the least :D

Name one non-Rush album that consistently blows you away

The first YES album was the first to really make my jaw drop. I was just a kid (11 years old) and listened to it every time I could persuade my sister to lend me her copy. This is the album that made me take music seriously in the first place. Frank Marino's first Live album . My first guitar hero, I am amazed how this album is never mentioned when great Live albums are discussed. Live In The Air Age by Bebop Deluxe. I still smile when I remember how often this album has stopped conversations in my house when someone hears it for the first time. Green by Steve Hillage. Simply a master-piece. -
A good friend of mine saw Space Ritual a couple of days ago on sale for a couple of Euro so he bought it. He hated it so he has given it to me. Not heard it yet, but I have usually liked what I have heard from the band in the past. Saw them live about 20 years ago, and really enjoyed it, especially the exotic dancers and fire eaters.

Finished listening to Comalies. First impression is that they are worth further Investigation. Unspoken was my favourite track on first hearing. Would still prefer if the female was the only singer as the guy's accent was a bit too strong for me. Will listen to a later album tomorrow, but certainly enjoyed Comalies. I'm usually not happy if a rock album does not include a few solos, but they managed to retain my interest without them. No boring tracks. Possible fan in the making :D -

Listening to the first track right now. Very promising, this happens to be right up my street at the moment. Does the female singer get to sing on her own on any tracks? I prefer just one lead singer, but it's not distracting me. -

I must confess, I have never heard this band. What album represents them at their best ? -
He gives Mark King ( level 42) a run for his money when it comes to the slap technique.

At least Alex and Geddy are still interested in making music together. Geddy says he still plays every day. It may be time for them to give up on RUSH as a group and move on. I didn't see Neil on that video of the guys at the Toronto Park ceremony.
