  1. Is that Matthew Caws in your pic next to Neil?
  2. I wonder if that was in planning on the CP tour or if dates were cancelled. I believe that the CP tour was also recorded in its entirety. As for April 27, reliable information suggests that the show never happened rather than 3 songs and stopped (given that only YYZ was the encore the previous night, no show seems to make more sense). I thought Neil said Telescope Peak was a song Geddy and Alex rejected. If those VT and R30 shows were filmed, I would like to see them (but I question if they exist at all).
  3. I wonder about the first one I have in the quotes box here. An article from the paper in Ottawa says that the show was done in 90 minutes due to vocal problems, but this is the first I have heard of Toronto. I also do not recall any problems with his voice on any of those shows. I thought the Tucson bit was common knowledge. Geddy had talked about in an interview. The story of Alex struggling to play in Denver is new to me. WHAT?! I was at one of those shows.. it was my first Rush show. Oh man, I'd love an archival release of that. I thought every night from this tour was recorded. It would be nice to see all of that be available for purchase, but I will believe it when it happens.
  4. Hopefully someone in the band starts to notice their funds are running low and wants to make a quick buck... Count me in as another would like to see those 1979 shows. I thought it was not uncommon knowledge on the PeW shows?
  5. Early Rush doing Spoonful would be sweet to hear! I wonder whatever happened to those tapes Rutsey had?
  6. Also there is some footage from Buffalo, NY from 1980. Everyone knows about the footage talking about their 1980 tour with some short footage of 2112 playing, but there was also some footage featured of a different song, which suggests they have the full show on film (god I hope they do) I thought this was the footage shot by local news there. IIRC, the story was that was about it.
  7. I would add that he was also busy enough on the bass in general that a solo may have been overkill.
  8. I wonder if LZ III is a grower. Some of that material on that album is amongst the best they ever did. I voted IV.
  9. So I guess you could also say a second reason to have two kicks is because you hate sound guys, or a third would be that you have a tiny weenie and want as gigantic a kit around you as possible to look more impressive to the chicks. So it must be one of those 2 reasons? It couldn't be a practical reason?
  10. Really? I thought it was the CP tour. Silly me. That 2-track stuff makes me wonder if any of it will see the light of day. I think doing something like Metallica has done would be nice, but I am not holding my breath.
  11. "Hand Over Fist" is the most random song they could have brought out. I've listened to that album hundreds of times and don't think I've ever thought about that song one way or the other. I guess it's not bad but...really? That's the one Neil wanted to play? In hindsight, I remember Presto getting somewhat of a similar reaction in 2010 for some being an oddball song to bring out, but gradually I warmed up to it especially after hearing it live a second time on the 2011 leg of the Time Machine Tour. I do wonder now if Hand Over Fist would've fared better with the audience than How It Is live... I would have preferred it. I think that song is one of the lesser ones on VT. That album had multiple choices that would have been better (IMO). Edited to add: Given how other Presto tunes have sounded on later tours, I think War Paint would have been a superb choice.
  12. I thought Dave Lombardo has said that a mallet in the center of the bass drum is different than a double pedal with one pedal hitting to the side of the center. Makes sense to me. Count me in as someone who prefers the aesthetics and the space that 2 bass drums provides. Frank Zappa commented on this book about how the way a drum kit is mic'd in a studio provides a sound that you can not hear in any way and that that artificial sound has become the norm (page 157 in The Real Frank Zappa Book, if anyone cares).
  13. That's where the clips from the doc appear to be from. The quality doesn't look that much better than the low-gen stuff that's already out there, but at least there's an official release. It would have made sense to release the whole show (which I'm sure will happen in the future based on the past several years. Laura Secord.... Capitol Theatre....) I can't remember if I have the Palace DVD or not, but I have the whole show on video. Visually, the 3/8/90 Detroit show is better than Mountainview. You think so? I agree that in terms of wide shots and overall coverage and stuff it's better captured as a show but I've got both the Mountain View and Auburn Hills shows from 1990 and I think Mountain view is much cleaner audio and video-wise. That's why I was shocked to hear people say the bonus content comes from the Auburn Hills proshot. Bordercollie wrote elsewhere - "The Presto footage is indeed from the Auburn Hills March 8 show. Sounded fantastic and looked much better than what has been floating around the internet/trading circles. The played a montage of Red Barchetta through the years and there were brief audio/video clips from various releases, including the "new" Presto footage." But I haven't seen the doc yet so I'll be curious to see for myself. Secondly, TFEman wrote above "I can't stress enough that Rush has access to TONS of pro-shot footage that was always ready just in case they wanted to make a lconcert film. I would expect neither of those two boots to be the source of this new bonus content." but I couldn't disagree more. While their live audio recordings are almost surely extensive I'm pretty sure their video library is virtually exhausted other than the remaining half of the Toronto TFE show. The only hope for any other proshot shows would be if somehow another venue filmed show leaked. I'm still holding out hope that the RTB tour was also fully filmed at Auburn Hills. There are so many proshot clips from throughout the show and the previous and following tours were both filmed there. Other than that? We'd have to get really lucky that maybe one of the other venues like the Houston Summit that filmed often may have something in their vault. But that's about it. The ONLY other hope I see is more footage from shows we've already seen. For example, the Atlanta show in 2008 that the four bonus songs were pulled from. They obviously filmed more because there are several other different songs on Neil's own dvd that were filmed there. And then of course there's the slim hope that the remaining footage from the three 80s shows could be found and restored. I don't think we'll ever see any more of those though. But people who are just assuming that Rush has all these proshot shows just sitting in a vault are not realistic at all about that. I've heard people say things like "They should release a dvd from the Signals tour" or some other random thing as though they can just go back in time and film stuff. Filming a show is a major undertaking and is also almost impossible to do without people knowing. The idea that they set up (especially 20 or more years ago when there weren't even rearscreen cameras) and filmed shows that we don't know about is just fantasy. So those are my thoughts... I said that because I was told that by someone that the band supposedly sits on a lot of footage from a couple of tours. I never said I believe it, or that I know 100% for a fact. It was also kind-of an assumption, considering how on almost all of their live albums before R30, they have bonus tracks from different dates during the tour, or in the case of Different Stages, different dates from an entirely different tour. Geddy is on the record as saying that nearly every show from the Test For Echo Tour was recorded (audio) because they could (whether they still have all of that is another story entirely.) I thought this was also the case with the HYF tour, and every night has been recorded starting with January 22, 1994. How did you find that out? I knew there had to be some explaination for the Counterparts SBDs on Different Stages but I had no idea they recorded eery single show. I believe they have spoken of this in interviews.
  14. Got any links on this, as well as the other ones? I think they would have been superb songs to see in concert.

  16. Gee, I wonder why neither of those made the final set. ;) Imagine hearing Something For Nothing on opening night. Jaws would drop as hard as they did for Lakeside Park I realize I am just one person, but I think Lakeside Park was a far better song choice. SUCKS. Open Secrets would have been more enjoyable IMO. I thought there was some bit about AFTK being rehearsed for the Presto tour, but the logistics of the segue from the title track were never worked out. I AM curious why DEW didn't make the cut for the CP tour. I wonder if time had anything to do with this.
  17. No, that was on the Roll the Bones tour- which I also did see, three shows, I think. But my first show was Presto tour. We got the full Superconductor, by itself. I believe they did play an abbreviated Xanadu that night, but I can't be certain (the recording of the show I have is missing about the last half hour- which also included La Villa Strangiato, in the encore!). Both tours featured the same "medley" - about half of Xanadu into the entire Superconductor. That's when the bunnies came out! :) I remember that tour as well. I remember thinking "man, these guys are getting up there in years. They probably won't be playing too much longer...." Silly me. Clem. This is inaccurate. Superconductor was performed on it's own. Xanadu was between Manhattan Project and YYZ. The bunnies came out during the Tom Sawyer closer. Here is the Presto tour setlist. To my knowledge it was never altered, except as noted: Force Ten (with "A Show of Hands" video intro) Freewill Distant Early Warning Time Stand Still Subdivisions Marathon Red Barchetta Superconductor Show Don't Tell (preceeded Superconductor until 2/22) The Pass Closer To The Heart Manhattan Project Xanadu YYZ The Rhythm Method (Drum solo) Scars War Paint Mission Tom Sawyer Encore: The Big Money (replaced by The Spirit of Radio 4/2) 2112 (Overture) La Villa Strangiato In The Mood Wipe Out Yes, I finished listening to all the rest of the show that I have- Xanadu is abbreviated at between six and a half and seven minutes, but going from that into YYZ is not bad. ;) And from YYZ into a monster drum solo (even with an average audience recording, holy crotales, it just comes thundering through the speakers!). The recording I have ends after Scars. FWIW my copy has War Paint (but stops after that).
  18. This makes me happy (and I need a copy).
  19. Well...the Who never covered RUSH. Just sayin'... Out of curiosity, I went to looked at the albums each band put out over the years when both bands were active .. Starting from 1974, Rush has put out 19 studio albums, not including Feedback Beginning at the same point, The Who put out 4 studio albums with Entwistle ( .. a fifth was recorded with Pino Palladino in '06 ) Not being a big fan of The Who, this surprised me .... So over the span of Rush's entire career, The Who with Entwistle recorded four albums ... No real point here, I suppose . As a songwriter, it seems Geddy was much more prolific, as Entwistle isn't credited with very many songs through those ten albums. Given that Entwistle did far more in the way of solo work due to not getting his songs through the Who, I am not buying this. Count me in as someone who thinks that Entwistle is better than Geddy. Entwistle was probably the big bang as far as rock bass playing goes.
  20. I do think that low gen or masters of those would be a huge upgrade.
  21. I get that. I meant "Where can I get that tape or a copy for a transfer"?
  22. I hope it is a low-gen or master of what has been running around, but I will believe it when I see it.
  23. I don't think they look too bad and IMO they were some of the best sounding basses used on R40, but I do think the ergonomics are lacking.
  24. I *thought* that the whole GUP show had been found, but at that time they were waiting for the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war to get sorted out first. Edit: It would be nice to see the whole TFE show if it is available. I wonder if eventually the audio archive will be opened up and those concerts put up for sale like Metallica has done as of late.
