  1. Interesting point. I honestly believe if SH had remained in Genesis they wouldn't have taken the " pop prog" route during the eighties! Hackett had very little choice to quit after WAW though as he was far from happy that the band were using very little of his material for the album. I think the writing was on the wall after he released his excellent Voyage of the Acolyte album. Still quitting G was our gain as he's released some great records over the years!
  2. ABSOLUTELY! People get on them from wearing their influences on their sleeve........so freakin' what. they are masters. and the discography contains some of my fav prog epics ever. Harm's Way Flow The Light The Water Healing colors of Sound The Great Nothing At the End of the Day As far as the Mind Can See All stand up to ANY classic, IMO. Mick Back in 2000 I was listening to the same old prog bands and finding them just a little bit boring. Ina local charity shop I came across two albums by Spock's Beard,The Kindness Of Strangers and V.So glad i brought them.Great albums, and ive followed them ever since. transatlantic was the gateway for me. i liked all the members. but neal Morse just had a charisma about him. looked him up on wikipedia. said what the hell is a spock's beard, lol Rest is history. they've yet to put out a band album. perfect body of work. other's are weaker but no bad albums. Mick Neal Morse solo is a beast! If you can get passed his obvious religious beliefs then your onto another winner! Some of the instrumental passages during his songs are excellent! His voice isnt bad too!!!

  4. Mama has to be one of their best opening tracks on any of their albums! Awesome track! Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea is a quality epic! The final five songs are ok but it's a little too safe and fairly standard music, though I have to admit I enjoy Silver Rainbow a lot!
  5. 50,000 POSTS ------WOW! MANY CONGRATULATIONS, CY!
  6. Any band that features the awesome voice of Steve Perry gets my vote! Therefore Journey it is!
  7. I witnessed Genesis live on their 1982 UK Tour for the album Abacab. It was without doubt one of the greatest three hours of my life! The band were just magical throughout the evening, and played superbly! However the highlight had to be when PC announced that it was ten years since they'd recorded Supper's Ready and so therefore "we would like to play it for you tonight",i knew I was going witness something special! Just awesome! For me I can listen to Gabriel-era Genesis and Collins-era Genesis and enjoy them both equally! Also must give a mention to Calling All Stations, the album Banks and Rutherford recorded with Ray Wiison. It's an ok album really, but does miss the writing contributions of PC!
  8. Nice Thread! Genesis/ Foxtrot >Selling England by the Pound >The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway King Crimson/ Larks Tongues in Aspic >Starless and Bible Black >Red Santana/ Santana >Abraxas > Santana III ELO/ Face The Music >A New World Record >Out of the Blue Camel/Mirage >The Snow Goose >Moonmadness
  9. Have you tried Images and Words,Segue? The album they recorded before the excellent Awake record, and the first to feature vocalist James LaBrie. Awesome album!
  10. On Facebook earlier this week,Jordan Rudess said that the follow-up to The Astonishing will definitely not be a concept album! No surprise there then! I suspect it will be a return to their more prog /metal roots and no ballads! Maybe the raw energy they brought us on TOT? Five months since The Astonishing was released, and I still enjoy it but I'm not convinced that the majority of DT fans wold put it there top 5 favourite albums.I know I wouldn't! It doesn't come anywhere near IAW,SFAM,or SDOIT!
  11. I shouldn't worry to much about Portnoy. Apparently he's made an album with his chum Neal Morse, and its a concept double record and I quote " … it's a combination of Tommy meets The Wall! It's the best music I've ever been involved in!" No pressure there then!
  12. The thought that Clapton is contemplating retirement is one that doesn't bear thinking! ROCK ICON is a phrase that is used far too often with many musicians, but with EC it's richly deserved!
  13. Maybe it was Chigley or Camberwick Green then ?! :bump: :hail: :D
  14. 1) Hemispheres-Rush (Lucas) 2) Thick As A Brick-Jethro Tull (Johnny Blaze) 3) Close To The Edge-Yes (Cyclonus X-1) 4) Tales From Topographic Oceans-Yes (Segue Myles) 5) The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway-Genesis One of the ultimate concept albums.Gabriel-era Genesis at their very best!
  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YES' UNION OR ONION ALBUM WHICH IS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OLD TODAY! WHATEVER YOUR OPINION OF THIS RECORD,IT'S ALWAYS MOVED MANY PEOPLE TO SOME PRETTY STIMULATING CONVERSATION ON ITS MERITS OR THE OPPOSITE! ITS NO CLASSIC,BUT WAS IT REALLY THAT BAD? RICK WAKEMAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN DISMISSIVE OF IT,BUT IS IT A TURKEY OF AN ALBUM OR ACTUALLY REALLY RATHER GOOD? or :ebert:
  16. if you want post Morse Octane or X is your best bet for the nick D'virgillio era. And Brief Noctournes and Dreamless Sleep is a great post Nick album. Yes they change Singers a bit. lol Mick I don't mind a change of vocalist. Not sure I will ever be obsessed with this band but I like them! I hear X is good...will try that next Mick's choice is as usual spot on! Octane I particularly enjoy!
  17. there is a man who got screwed. Calling all stations was pretty good.......but man i wanted to see where they'd go. Mick there is a man who got screwed. Calling all stations was pretty good.......but man i wanted to see where they'd go. Mick The project was doomed from the start. Ray while a good singer was just not the right choice. Makes me even more sad about Kevin Gilbert. I really like this album...I think if they had hung in there for a second album and attempted a smaller scale tour than they did they might have just pulled off a second Genesis miracle. Me too. i think It would have been better then what came to be..............nothing, lol well a jukebox 1 era reunion, lol Mick Wow. Has it really been nearly 20 years?? Ray Wilson's vocals were ok,but some of the material he sang was a little below the standard of writing from Banks and Rutherford, though Wilson's contribution was hardly any better! Saying that it beats the pants off Invisible Touch, and most of We Can't Dance! Rutherford was fairly keen on a follow-up to CAS,but,I believe Banks was not! End of!
  18. THIS IS SO WRONG! WHILST EVERYBODY IN THE STATES HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE MIGHTY BAND LAST YEAR,US IN TH UK AND EUROPE DIDN'T GET THAT CHANCE! SO WHEN I CAME ACROSS THIS THREAD AND DISCOVERED THAT RUSH WOULD BE PERFORMING IN LONDON,I GASPED! THEN I READ THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS AND MY HOPES DIED INSTANTLY! WHOEVER YOU ARE PLEASE DON'T DO THIS AGAIN!!! IT IS NOT FUNNY IN THE SLIGHTEST!!!!
  19. THE WALL IS A SUPERB ALBUM ! THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY IS A SUPERB ALBUM ! HOWEVER THE LAMB CONTAINS TWO OF MY FAVOURITE GENESIS TRACKS, IN THE CAGE,AND THE LAMIA. "LOOKING BEHIND ME THE WATER TURNS ICY BLUE, THE LIGHTS ARE DIMMED AND ONCE AGAIN THE STAGE IS SET FOR YOU" THE LAMB GETS MY VOTE,JUST!
  20. Oxygene,Equinoxe,Magnetic Fields are Jarre's greatest records.Love all three! Ethnicolor from Zoolook is also superb!
  21. NO CONTEST! SEAMUS+ECHOES=A WINNING FORMULA=MEDDLE.
  22. i have to be in a down cynical mood to enjoy. it's a very heavy album and in the wrong frame of mind it's a drag to sit through. Mick And when I sit around late at night and crank the Final Cut thru my headphones. Thats aural bliss. The Final Cut is another record that i really like. Once again it's not popular with many Floyd fans, and that I guess is down to Roger controlling the writing department.
  23. I've always wondered why there is not much love for The Wall album? Maybe the concept is not to everyone's taste and also it is saturated with Waters song-writing,and very little of Gilmour's! Personally I really enjoy it and admit it's in my top five of favourite Floyd albums!
