  4. I agree that what they did with Luke was an improvement I somehow missed this. Making Luke an illogical pessimist... Why was his retreat illogical? People can become disillusioned as they age, and he had his reasons. I agree that the protracted fight-to-the-death scene, while beautifully filmed, was lame. I guess my issues were: 1. It is against everything we know and love about Luke; 2. He unleashes an evil Ben and Knights of Ren on the world through failure and says..."Well, f**k it. Let them kill all they want." Sure, I get that the Jedi f***ed up a lot. I get that maybe you need to train the Jedi differently or not at all going forward. I even get that you'd want the Jedi to die (kinda, but kinda stupid as well) But clean up your f***ing mess you asshole! 3. You (Luke) know of Snoke. You know of balance of the force. If you're not going to fight Snoke, kill yourself immediately. Otherwise you're just denying the balance of the force and killing billions of people for no reason. 4. Given 2 and 3 above, you'd think it wouldn't take Luke 2 hours to get into a place just that he could help his twin get 15 extra minutes.
  5. I agree that what they did with Luke was an improvement I somehow missed this. Making Luke an illogical pessimist and completely gutting his character in order to create fake drama? Making him die in a 5 minute stall plan in an unbelievable reversal of 2 hours of grumpiness? The assisination of Luke was the worst thing about this movie. Rose and Finn were harder to watch, but it at least made some sort of sense based on who they were.

  7. Supposedly about a dog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOdTzw2grnw
  8. "about" a dog, though? Stomp is completely about a dog. Black Dog is about banging chicks (presumably hot ones and not dogs), but is named after a dog which was around during rehearsals.
  9. The 4 Disney SW movies are clearly better than at least 2 out of 3 of Lucas' last movies. These are good times.
  10. Ok, I reconsidered and bumped it up to a B and I realized I answered the second half wrong...it was late when I took the poll Friday. I liked the movie but it was a bit underwhelming at times. I can't put my finger on it exactly but it was some how off...things just seemed forced at times. Solo's escape and Qi'ra being left behind, the smugglers taking Han and Chewie with them and the robot and Lando (?). The story moved along fast and the effects were great, there were great bad characters and yet not much suspense because we knew that Han, Chewie and Lando would survive. I am assuming that some of the big plot holes will be filled in later since there are supposed to be 2 more films with the Solo arc. I know some said they were glad to leave the Jedi plot out for a change but I guess I just missed a light saber duel Not sure I will see it multiple times still feel ambivalent about it. I didn’t have an issue with your grade, it was that you ranked it lower than Phantom Menace and higher than the original trilogy. I’ve never met someone who thought the prequels were much better than the originals, and wondered if you were that person.
  11. Why would you willingly watch a movie that you think is a C- again? Because I would watch with my son which is time well spent... Good reason! Come to think of it, I’ve willingly watched all kinds of crap with Mrs. Blaze! But yeah, originally I thought you were going to watch it again (alone or not with a loved one) simply to give it another chance or because it’s Star Wars My boy loves Darth Maul. That’s another 5 viewings minimum.
  12. Loved when he met Chewbacca but hated that Han spoke Wookiee. Why? To hear the actor do that was just silly. I couldn't imagine George Lucas asking Harrison Ford do that or even having a conversation about it... It didn't seem any sillier to me than any of the other fake language moments from the Star Wars franchise. ETA: In this respect it's been downhill since the introduction of the Ewoks. He just did it in the beginning to gain Chewie's trust. It's short, funny, and works within the universe.
  13. I liked the angle of her being an advocate for droid equality. It's something that I've thought about for many years, and I thought it was really funny.
  14. Why would you willingly watch a movie that you think is a C- again? I’ve seen Phantom Menace many times...it’s still Star Wars, it’s still fun, and it still sucks as a film. Any movie that I think is fun and enjoyable I wouldn't give a C-. 'That meal was terrible. I'm going to eat it again!' The movie was also stupid and grating in parts.

  16. Good to hear! I've read a couple reviews that have said the movie was just wall-to-wall callbacks. In thinking about it, I guess they have a point. But a lot of what they called callbacks I think of as indispensable parts of the story (I mean, do Chewie, Lando and the Falcon really count) or things that just look like they're naturally there...not forced. When the two guys from the Mos Eisley cantina showed up in R1, it completely took me out of the movie. Basically everything with C3PO and R2 were forced in the prequels and didn't comport with what we knew about them. This movie only had one moment that seemed too heavy-handed for me, and it actually becomes an intriguing (and potentially essential) plot point.
  17. Chewie and the Han/Chewie interplay are perhaps the best parts of this movie.
  18. Incomprehensible lines start around 1:44 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKUD6gMydbU
  19. After Mickey dies Rocky says “mmmhhhhhhhmmmmphhhaaaaaaaaaaallllllphhhhhhhhhj”. Classic.
  20. I like the movie a lot, but will actually refrain from spoilers for a day or so despite the tags and title of the thread.
  21. I liked the film a lot. Fun but not trying too hard for laughs. Authentic without relying too heavily on callbacks. It hot almost all the right notes for me. It’s obviously early, but I think this will settle in the 3-5 range for best SW film.
  22. Can I assume that all of Counterparts has been nominated?
