  1. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 13 2012, 09:27 PM) They are two sides of the same coin. Love in excess is just as self-destructive as hate. Just look at Romeo and Juliet... "love in excess" was not a theme, idea, or motif of the play Romeo and Juliet. Major themes of the play: Love, hate, light, time, fate... and lust being physical, youthful love.

  4. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ May 11 2012, 05:27 PM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ May 11 2012, 11:53 AM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Apr 3 2012, 04:51 PM) I was thinking of the CA Tour and began to wonder about Jacobs Ladder being introduced by Will Ferrel as Ron Burgandy taking over the Weatherman position! I thought that would be really funny! What do you think? Here's what I think the intro film should be. Fade in: It's the last night of the Clockwork Angles 'Farewell American' tour and Neil is in the middle of his drum solo when his set catches on fire and he spontaneously combusts.... SMASH CUT TO: He wakes up a young man, he fell asleep working in his dad's part shop -- the entire RUSH career was a long dream. Then... A corvette pulls up out front.... I think a Barchetta would be more fitting Remember, from the documentary... they came to get him in a Corvette.
  5. QUOTE (jesse2112 @ May 13 2012, 10:13 AM) oh and I wanna hear some stuff from Vapor Trails...I know everyone wants me dead now We can't say good-bye to RUSH w/o the Dragon. What was his name anyway?
  6. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 12 2012, 04:08 PM) A new Rush album is coming.....excitement and hype abound. I can perfectly understand fans not wanting to be cautious about expectations and wanting to hype lest they have too low and realistic hopes only to be satisfied. However, some of you go beyond this....expressing pervasive happiness and positivity about the album, which hasn't even been heard in full. Yes, I know that some of you like the three songs heard so far and you have every right to express your satisfaction, but the attitude I also sense is of almost complete enamoration...not able to salvage anything negative out of the new stuff. I see this on other forums too, usually much worse there than on here. Beyond expressing particular points of satisfaction, what gives about the love? Why the fanboyism? Are you indirectly expressing some sort of thanks towards the band about past expectations being exceeded or utter satisfaction? Is this positivity some sort of defense mechanism against disappointment, or you just like to express agreeable opinions out of fear of dissent, or vent your satisfaction about other things in your lives that have nothing to do with Rush? Do you feel envious towards those Rush fans who are hating the new material, but you cant join the party? Are you happy that every Rush album might as well be MP 2 or your own personal fantasy album? Im not trying to sound like a jerk, but just curious to know the reasons behind all this positive spew I see and hear so often when it comes to new Rush. The positivity is old and tiresome. It contributes nothing interesting or exciting to discussions. Heard it all. Again, to be clear, Im no troll and dont appreciate blind hatred for anything Rush puts out either. There are many Rush songs I do appreciate, but I try to keep an open mind too. Im also not talking about critical reviews or healthy analyses and debates with balanced perspectives. Expressing general liking for a song or album is not what I have an issue with. You know what Im talking about....we've seen it here, elsewhere and will see it again.........unfortunately. Happiness and positivity is easier on the stomach and the nerves. Speaking for the over 40 crowd.
  7. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ May 10 2012, 08:02 AM) Don't forget... Geddy Lee on Planet Rock! Coming up shortly! http://www.planetrock.com/ Great interview, especially about Ged and Alex changing instruments to write The Wreckers. And New Videos for CA tour. Fun stuff.
  8. I wasn't aware that all three members of 'classic Rush' had been replaced by new people. Does RUSH have a new line up and no one told me? New RUSH, Caravan in particular, is CLASSIC. It's one of their best songs.

Here's why I'm positive this is a happy place. The band I've followed all my life is now enjoying more success and accolades than ever. I was right all along. They are the greatest band ever.
  10. QUOTE (losingit2k @ May 12 2012, 07:29 AM)Congrats TRF-ers! We are officially ONE month away from the release of Clockwork Angels. Most importantly we haven't killed each other in the process. We Are in the final stretch! We can do it! It's almost in our grasp! It's so close now we can smell The Garden! The Seven cities of Gold are in sight! We have eluded the wreckers and the Anarchist has been left watching the Halo Effect left behind by our Headlong Flight! We wish them Well! Here's to US TRF! http://gifsoup.com/view3/1365682/colbert-o.gif
  11. I was doing some serious air drumming today. I hope they play that live.
  12. QUOTE (staunchally @ May 12 2012, 02:19 PM) QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ May 9 2012, 09:34 AM) "I think [Rush] just wanted to make a great album. They just want to be happy and make music. I think we did that, and I hope all the true Rush fans out there love it, too, without picking apart how loud the mastering is or analyzing the waveform." - Nick Raskulinecz What's wrong with "picking apart" and "analyzing"? It's why the West is successful. That + free and/or cheap labor.
  13. QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 12 2012, 08:10 AM)QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ May 12 2012, 04:46 AM) During the 90's, I stopped following Rush. I've tried to go back and listen to TFE and CP, but they just don't speak to me like the albums before and after that period. That's cool, it's all good. Rush was doing their thing and still bringing new fans into the fold. They deserve all the fans and success they've earned. And the fans that bought and supported those albums deserve a nod during the live shows. See, that's how I believe you express an opinion on a fan site. -- I didn't get in to TFE. It was me, my taste in music, it wasn't about RUSH lacking something. This is an argument I've heard once or twice before here, and I seriously don't get it. It's something lacking in US, and OUR FAULT if Rush puts out a crappy album and we can't appreciate it? There's no fault. There's just a brain in our head that likes sushi but won't eat asparagus w/o gagging. (my brain to a T) Is that the fault of the asparagus or the brain? Niether. It just is. Calling any album Crappy is, for the most part, a subjective reality which can not be proved or disproved. Saying I think the album is crappy is a truth, because no one can disprove your thoughts, your taste, your likes or dislikes. Rush albums always have a high production value, they are professionally produced, etc. And no one is going to make a case that RUSH can't play instruments. However, to say these new songs are crap, on a fan board, is just trying to be disruptive and make noise - IMO. You're not stating anything that can be proved or disproved, and you're doing so using a negative tone. It also can feel like a backhanded slight against someone who has just praised in an earlier post. In other words, you're saying in a sense "there's something wrong with you because you like crap." Make sense?
  14. QUOTE (SlyJeff @ May 12 2012, 11:57 AM) I think Caravan is a great song I think Caravan is one of the greatest RUSH--it has that visual feel that defines a RUSH - a view of the future from the past --which defines CA. They are ending their career with an album in the same league as MP, Signals & 2112. But that's just MY opinion, my taste, my deal... Coolio?
  15. QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 9 2012, 08:14 AM) If you really want to talk about an overused word in Rush lyrics, be prepared, because it's used A LOT! Rock and roll-in's a scream, makin' millions my dream A wondrous dream came into being Fantastic dreams come true The dreams's gone stale, but still, let hope prevail We would sit and talk of dreams all night Dreams of youth And a dream must give it flame V. Oracle: The Dream Dream can't you show me the light? The dream is still in my head Not fade like all my dreams Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams Come explore your dreams' creation No matter what your dreams might be Try as they might They cannot steal your dreams VI. The Sphere: A Kind of Dream Things that I once dreamed of have become reality. II. To sleep, perchance to dream... The shifting shafts of shining Weave the fabric of their dreams... To keep it as new has been his dearest dream. Race back to the farm, to dream with my uncle at the fireside. The universal dream Will drag the dream into existence. Nowhere is the dreamer Or the misfit so alone The restless dreams of youth Some will sell their dreams for small desires And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight Dances on the edge of his dream But most of us just dream about The things we'd like to be Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams I'm not giving up On implausible dreams- From dreams to a bowl of dust Big money make a million dreams We break the surface tension With our wild kinetic dreams While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind Dreams flow across the heartland Dreams transport desires Dreams transport the ones Who need to get out of town They dream in Middletown... More things than are dreamed about Dance and dream like lovers Now I lay me down in Dreamland Hold the flame 'til the dream ignites- A spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission I walk through their beautiful buildings And I wish I had their dreams But dreams don't need to have motion In the dreams of a desert thirst dreams are sometimes catching Dreamers learn to steer by the stars Dreamers turn to look at the cars dreams for self-delusion I had a dream of a winter garden I had a dream of the open water chase the dreams of merchandise Dreamline Wondering what our dreams might be worth To leave you stranded in Dreamland If the dream is won - Though everything is lost Just another dreamer who was going too far Evil as a murderer's dream In the city where nobody smiles And nobody dreams Live and love and dream Dream of a Peaceable Kingdom Dream of a time without war You could look with pride On your world of dreams Form a dream to rise to Earthshine Did I have a dream? Or did the dream have me? Dream - Temporary madness Dream - A voice in the wilderness Dream - Unconscious revelations Another world of dreams appears Dream - A walk in the wilderness Dream - Unconscious recreation It's a dream for the waking To the distant dream of the city Hence the poor man's RUSH is called Dream Theater. How many times does the world bald show up?
  16. I've never been a fan of the dancing/rapping skeleton. In fact, after RTB, I sort of checked out until VT.
  17. Looks like great minds think alike. But I don't think Townshend looked uncomfortable, but NP looked happy. AND BTW - is there any video from this presentation?
  18. QUOTE (RushFanForever @ May 9 2012, 01:25 AM) Rush and Pete Townshend Look at the smile on NPs face. Biggest Who fan ever. But is Townshend a long awaited friend? Sure, why not.

Do you feel envious towards those Rush fans who are enjoying new material, but you cant join the party? Are you frustrated that Rush didnt create MP 2 or your own personal fantasy album? Im not trying to sound like a jerk, but just curious to know the reasons behind all this negative spew I see and hear so often when it comes to new Rush. The negativity is old and tiresome. Great OP, well said. I love the 3 songs we've heard off the new album, I think they're some of the best music RUSH has ever created. Clockwork Angels looks to be the culmination of 40 years of musical genius, combing 2112's sic-fi themes with the musical brilliance of Moving Pictures, Signals, even Snakes and Arrows. During the 90's, I stopped following Rush. I've tried to go back and listen to TFE and CP, but they just don't speak to me like the albums before and after that period. That's cool, it's all good. It was me, my taste in music, it wasn't about RUSH lacking something. Some people need attention and therefore state their opinion in a mean spirited, emphatic manner. Whatever. I'm counting the days until the new CD drops and I look forward to reading the book.
  20. QUOTE (CantStopThinkingBig @ May 9 2012, 10:48 PM) and Where's My Thing. Two underrated gems Not a big fan of either. But cool if you like 'em.
  21. QUOTE (Steel Rat @ May 10 2012, 10:42 AM) I know they brought back "Finding my Way" for R30 and "By-Tor" for Rio, and they've kind've always played "Working Man," but after looking at their setlist history today, I noticed something about Rush that may be an unremarkable phenomenon: They don't really play pre-Peart songs. They almost approach them as if they were cover songs. I mean, I know they don't want to bring back a song from "Rush" or "Fly By Night" for every tour, because they're not as well known and might be boring to sit through for the audience - also Geddy's voice, of course. But most of the songs from "Rush" and "FBN" haven't been played in like thirty years, and I thought it would be interesting to note that. I wonder what the boys' thoughts on this are. The last time they played "BB&B" was for the Signals tour, back in 1982, exactly 30 years ago. Last time they played "Need Some Love" was the Fly By Night tour. 1975 I can't find if they've EVER played "Take a Friend" live. Here Again = "Rush" tour, 1974 What You're Doing = All The World's A Stage tour, 1976 In The Mood = "Presto," 1990 No information on "Before and After" Best I Can = All The World's a Stage, 1976 No information on "Making Memories" or "Rivendell." Most strangely, they haven't even played "Fly By Night" since 1978. I personally would be head-banging to any one of these if they played them live again, it would be a hugely welcome surprise. I wonder if they'll ever get to them before they retire. It would be sad if they went their entire career without ever playing "Before and After" live. I like that song... In the Mood used to be a standard closer from 82 - 91. Balloons falling from the ceiling.
  22. QUOTE (CantStopThinkingBig @ May 11 2012, 07:17 PM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ May 11 2012, 12:21 PM) Good Times, Bad Times - LZ I remember reading somewhere that they had originally planned to include this song on Feedback, but changed their minds at the last minute. Feedback II -- leading up to the R40 tour. Are we the luckiest fans ever?
  23. QUOTE (GangsterOnBoats @ May 7 2012, 07:56 AM) What if they do a Christmas record? Not the ordinary kind, however. Neil will actually get to rewrite each of the Christmas carols. "Jingle bells I hate God" and "Clockwork Angels, we Have heard on high" will be the first two singles Wouldn't NP want some winter solstice songs? Are there any winter solstice songs?
