  1. Not holding my breath but I'd really, really enjoy hearing Countdown.
  2. as long as the musicianship within the songs is unique, melodic, and technical enough to intrigue and impress me, i'm okay with there being no bona fide instrumentals. i love neil's lyrics so the more the merrier.
  3. QUOTE (Majestyk @ May 6 2012, 11:48 PM) QUOTE I remember hearing the first tease of Far Cry with the "Hemispheres chord" and getting all excited... if only I knew what was coming after that What you really mean is you were all excited that Rush was going to repeat what they already did ages ago, but instead they did new material. That's not the Rush I know. Let other, lesser bands live in the past. I admire Rush for always moving forward.

    Tears

Doesn't really do much for me.
  5. I'd love to hear them take a crack at a few songs from Tool's Lateralus album.
  6. I hear a subtle difference too. Hard to put my finger on it.
  7. Overall I'd say yes, they seem to sound more energized and inspired here
  8. i'm not really moved by pre-release hype. i'm sure CA will rock, but i'd like to come to that determination for myself.
  9. QUOTE (losingit2k @ May 4 2012, 01:02 PM) QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ May 4 2012, 11:00 AM) QUOTE (NYM86 @ May 4 2012, 09:41 AM) i don't really see how caravan and bu2b can be considered jams I agree, to me "jam" is more of a spontaneous, loose, made-up thing rather than a written part of a song regardless of how it sounds. The extended live versions of Closer to the Heart for example were jams, or the extended live ending on Bravado. The middle parts of Freewill or Mission for example are not jams because they're structured, written parts. Sir I know what a "Jam" is and I agree with you on the spontaneous, improvisation. However hasn't been quoted saying that most of their songs derive form jam sessions. To me the ending of Caravan and most of the Headlong Flight seems like just that sections that have been developed from a jam. They are structured but not to the extent of ordinary songs. Specially Alex's solos. Regardless, I know a song that jams (Adjective) and a song that is a Jam (noun)! If you notice on the title its jamming (verb) not a Jam (Noun). So please restrain yourselves from your futile attempts to seem enlightened. I think you guys need to pick up some toast and add some jam (noun) to it. I suggest some Rasberry Jam! You guys get a bit dramatic without your daily jam. Kinda like Joe Pesci! i don't need to 'lighten up' at all. just because i disagree with your opinion, doesn't mean i'm tensed up in the least bit. i still don't think anything in caravan or bu2b sounds like a jam.
  10. i don't really see how caravan and bu2b can be considered jams
  11. how is volume considered a measure of a guitarist?
  12. No disrespect to Snakes & Arrows, which is an extremely solid album, but Vapor Trails is the clear preference for me. I have a much stronger emotional connection with VT, due to the band's circumstances at the time and how those feelings were reflected in the music. It feels like a real grassroots effort compared to other Rush albums, which is kind of neat. Plus, when it rocks, it really rocks. Freeze is such a hard-hitting tune.
  13. Better than trashing Snakes & Arrows or heaping endless praise on Moving Pictures...
  14. I'll be looking for some stronger melodies in other songs, but for now, the power and ballsiness displayed by HF bodes well for the rest of the album
  15. Countdown. That outro riff is probably my favorite guitar part of all time and hearing it live would pretty much make my life.

    The one thing!

They definitely better not overdo it with the strings.

    Geddy sighting

as a diehard baseball fan myself, it is cool to see that geddy is one as well. plus, it's one more thing that makes him like an everyman.

    5 years later

i liked it a lot then and i like it a lot now ... interesting combination of heavy yet bluesy sounds from the boys

    Headlong Flight

I think Neil displays a good combination of raw power and technical chops here so I'll give him the nod. All the same, I thought there were some missed opportunities within the song where he could've thrown in more fills. EDIT: The straight snare triplets at 2:15 also bug me to death. Really, dude? That's the best you could come up with there?
  20. to me, they represent something greater than music. They stand for embracing your individuality and what makes you unique, no matter how well- or poorly-received it is by others on the outside. They stand for never letting complacency set in, always pushing yourself to change and evolve, even if sticking with the proven formula is far more comfortable. they have never lost their integrity as musicians and people, even in the face of all kinds of ups and downs, from the most glowing praise to the sharpest criticisms, 'down the tubes' tours to selling out arena after arena....the reality is, with this band, it's NOT just about the music. it's definitely bigger than that.....
  21. Nope, Headlong Flight shows a lot of musical polish and smoothness that they just didn't have back then.
  22. Kinda miffed that there aren't any Vapor Trails or Test For Echo ones available (at least not easily) as those are two of my favorite albums. But I own the Moving Pictures and Signals tour shirts.
  23. iPod with some decent to high-end headphones, probably Skullcandys or Shures.
