  1. They came so close to tying it at the last...
  2. He's been on hospice care for over a year, think he has been holding on for her. It was just a couple of days ago they announced she was going to hospice too. At least she was at home with loved ones around her. Bless them both for all the work they have done for so many people, truly caring individuals. It makes me smile when I think of my relatives from Georgia who were so happy when Jimmy was elected. They both exemplified "love thy neighbor" in deeds not words only. RIP
  3. Have to realize we are only getting snippets of the events and it may not be like that the whole time. People are excited to have some contact with Geddy and some fans always act foolish, that's just how it is. I have enjoyed watching YouTube interviews with Geddy and the audio book is good, it will take time to finish it since I think it will be more enjoyable to read in snippets (IMHO) but it is nice to hear some things we didn't already know about.
  4. You are ambitious, that sounds like a lot of work. I heard a story on NPR how a group of people decided to read Finnegan's Wake and it took them years to finish it. https://www.npr.org/2023/11/17/1213890392/this-book-club-finally-finished-finnegans-wake-it-only-took-them-28-years I have been trying to read Little Women and Picture of Dorian Grey off and on for about 5 years now and haven't been able to finish either Went back to The Way of the Bear so I can finish it. Enjoy the Navajo culture and characters in these mysteries.
  5. Avs have shaken off whatever was bothering them, they had a fantastic game Saturday, scoring 6 straight goals to beat Dallas 6-3. The new guys are starting to gel and we are getting goals scored by them on a regular basis now. Cale continues to knock off another record, fastest time to 200 assists by a defenseman, passing Brian Leetch Saturday with 3 assists in the game.
  6. His accents make it come alive, it is great to hear him read this. The sad parts must have been hard to do though, bet there were some extra takes here and there.
  7. It made me cry a lot, so hard to hear all the horrible things they had to experience. God bless them for being so strong and surviving.
  8. I usually read several books at a time, one print one audio. Sometimes I need to switch back and forth but not always. However, after the chapter on Geddy's family and their horrible time in the concentration camps, I am going to need a break.
  9. You will probably have a bit of a wait at the library. You can get a free audiobook by signing up for Audible and then cancel later if you don't need it. I started using Libro.fm for audiobooks and it is nice because they give funds to a bookstore in your area (you choose which one to give to) while getting your audio from them.
  10. I have had the same problem for several years now, I used to be able to read 50 + books a year and now I am lucky if I get 30. Too many podcasts are taking me away from reading, I do miss it. But now I have a great book to start on
  11. I got the audio too but I think I know Santa is bringing me a hard copy, so I will have the best of both worlds. Listened to the two songs and they are wonderful. Can't wait to get started.
  12. Avs beat Kraken 5-1. Was slow going at first but after a goal by the Kraken was disallowed for goaltender interference, the guys got serious. Nice to see Caleb Jones helping out along with newly signed Kirivanta and Malinski called up from the Eagles. Best of all Drouin got his first goal, glad for him to have that monkey off his back. Now let's see if we can go home and win there
  13. UK authorities arrest suspect in death of Adam Johnson https://apnews.com/article/hockey-skate-death-arrest-england-993fbef63971c4483afa48041dd08a30
  14. Just downloaded my copy and listened to the songs. Haunting and lovely. Can't wait to start it. I got my audio copy through Libro.fm, which I changed over to a couple of years ago after Audible made changes to their files. I also like that my purchases give a local bookstore some funds which is nice.
  15. That steal and score was a beauty, Connor is the real deal.
  16. Audible can be a pain since they changed their formats a year or so ago. I switched over to Librofm for audio books, they have the MP3 format and you can download them on your phone as well. Nice thing about Librofm, they partner with local bookstores so they get some financial benefit from your purchases. Looking forward to Tuesday
  17. Our announcers were carrying on about it, we had a similar incident about 9 years ago only in our case the opposing team scooped up the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. So Washington got lucky
  18. I am getting concerned with how erratic the Avs are playing, losing badly to the Blues. It doesn't help we have lost Lekhonen (weeks)and Cogliano (day to day) from that rough game with the Kraken. Now they have to go back to Seattle Monday, I am sick of them I hope we do better keeping an eye on them, they are becoming really cheap shots.
  19. Utes gave it a good fight but lost 35-28. At least Colorado didn't win
  20. Was curious about Geddy's friendship with Steve Shutt so I did a little searching and found a journal entry from Shutt "I took my bass home and started practicing. I read my “Introduction to Bass Playing” book. I did scales and learned how to tune the bass. After a couple of weeks, I thought I was getting the hang of playing and sounding pretty good, so I went over to Geddy’s house to show him. When I got there, he had his bass out and one of those old portable record players where, when you opened it up, the speaker would be in the lid. I got out my bass out and said “Okay, let’s do some scales.” Geddy looked at me and said, “Um, I can’t do scales.” My confidence started to rise. “I’ll show you,” I told him. “Just follow me.” Maybe I did have some talent. Geddy said, “Wait, before we do that, let’s listen to this record.” I told him that would be fine. The record started on the cheap portable player and he said, “Listen, can you hear the bass?” Then he said, “Look at this,” and started playing. His bass came alive. It pounded the speakers of the 12″ amp and sounded great. I didn’t know if he was copying the record or not because I couldn’t even hear the bass on the record. He did the same thing on the next song and the next one after that. I went home and put my bass away and I don’t think that I ever picked it up again. I guess, looking back, it would have been tough for anyone to compare with the best bass guitar player in the world. I think that both of us made the right decision." Couldn't access the site but this was quoted in a Reddit thread a few months ago. More interesting trivia
  21. Just read it Friday night, so sad about his Mom's dementia. So glad I preordered the audio, going to enjoy hearing Geddy read it.
