  1. I probably love Live Dead more than anyone else on this board but Fillmore East can't be beat (my license plate is now L1Z REED).
  2. Ive seen Moe many times as well. I think of them and Umphrey's as being fairly similiar. I guess I'm mostly a jam band hippie at heart.
  3. I am a huge Duane fan. I have all his stuff. Also check out the Derek and The Dominos box set (I guess you can find these on youtube???). Disc 2 is the jams where they just left the tape running "Jam I" (Clapton, Gordon, Carl Radle, Whitlock) Recorded September 2, 1970 "Jam II" (Clapton, Gordon, Radle, Whitlock) Recorded August 26, 1970 "Jam III" (Clapton, Gordon, Radle, Whitlock) Recorded August 27, 1970 "Jam IV" (Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, Clapton, Whitlock) Recorded August 27, 1970 "Jam V" (Duane Allman, Clapton, Gordon, Radle, Whitlock) Recorded August 27, 1970 So you get two additional Duane tracks.
  4. I have seen a LOT of Mule shows as well. Met Warren a couple of times. What a nice down to Earth human. He and Lerxst are big role models for me.
  5. Zeppelin, with The Who, Floyd, and Yes just slightly behind.
  6. Two of my favorite bands. Tough to chose between the two because I love them both so much. Went with the Dead. I regard Fillmore East as the greatest live album of all time so I certainly voted for that. Workingman's Dead also gets the nod from me. With no Duane on Brothers and Sisters, this one was an easy decision. Didn't care too much for the country leanings of the band after Duane was gone. The blues influence is missed. Two of the greatest live bands. It's been years since I've listened to a studio album all the way through for either of them. But my Sirius radio is usually tuned into the Dead channel. Only saw the Grateful Dead live 4 times as I was a poor college student just before Jerry died and didn't have the funds to see them often. But have seen the post Jerry incarnations (Other Ones, Further, The Dead, Dead and Co, Fare The well) well over 50 times. Have seen the Allman Brothers over 30 times including their final show at the Beacon about 5 years ago. No better guitar duo than Warren and Derek. Lastly - Jerry has more soul and talent in the tip of his right middle finger than all of Earl's shitty ass hair bands combined.
  7. I got up on stage at my wedding and played Return Of the Prince along with my best-man (he played the solo parts - I played the rhythm)
  8. I have always defended COS on here. I am probably in the Guiness Book Of World Records for the person who has listened to this album more than anyone else. What scares me is that I am thinking too much like Earl (my favorite Star Wars movies are probably IV and 3.5 also). COS and Hemispheres have pretty much been tied as my favorite album for the last 20 years but I typically go with COS (since Hemispheres gets more love than COS). I know I've shared this many times but my last two license plates were HMSPHRS and LAMNETH. Have loved the tradition of the past 3 (or maybe 4) TRF meetup tailgates in Bristow playing the Fountain Of Lamneth with SteelCaressed's (don't think he has posted in about 10 years) son. I'm just glad he sang so my drunk ass could focus on the guitar.
  9. Don't recall seeing too many Rush videos, but they did one time play the GUP video one night. I still have this recording - VHS tape. Still plays and has the MTV logo in the bottom corner. Never have upgraded to getting it on DVD.
  10. Going to see a local band at an outdoor venue on Saturday night.. I'll be sure to wear a Rush shirt (as I typically do half the time anyway). The band has two drummers and there is usually a drum solo in the set. I have already let them know I expect to hear parts/snippets of the ESL solo.
  11. Hi_water. You may want to include cassette in these polls too. Most every Rush album I first owned on cassette. Then got them again on CD when that came out. I have Rush-Presto all on cassette (including ATW,ESL.ASOH) . I think after ASOH, I stopped buying on cassette and only got the CD. Back in the day, pretty much everyone had cassette players in their cars. But we could but the CD and then make a copy on cassette for so you could listen in the car.
  12. Discovered Rush in 85. Instant obsession with the music. Was always excited when new albums came out (starting with HYF) but was always disappointed until S&A, Thought that was a decent album. Then came CA. Thought that was a great album. Never have I had a 'breakup'. In the late 80's I pretty much listened to nothing but Rush. But then I fell in love with a bunch of other bands as well so I guess I'm an unfaithful cheater. But I love the first 8 albums (studio) just as much now as when I heard them for the first time. Post MP I rarely listen to anymore other than CA. So I may have had a break-up with the synth era.
  13. Dogs is probably my fave, but had to go with Shine On of the ones listed.
  14. Didn't both Blind Faith and Derek and The Dominos have only one album? Correct (D&D do have a live album though). Thats why it would be tough
  15. Blind Faith, Derek And The Dominos, Boston, Guns n Roses, Hendrix (possibly) would be the bands that I listen to to which I would chose the favorite album as to opposed to the remainder of the catalogue. Should be an easy decision for most. I love Caress Of Steel but no chance I would chose that over every other album. Plus I can always pick up my guitar and play most of it anyway if need be. This would be very easy for Moving Pictures fans as you could always listen to the Time Machine CD instead
  16. There is an entire forum/subforum to discuss this sort of thing. http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?/forum/28-making-modern-music/ Would be great for you to get geeky about gear. But to answer your question, any Rush I play would be: Gibson LP Classic PRS McCarty Gibson ES 355 (my new toy so I play it primarily now but it was mainly the LP before) Gibson J-45 (for the acoustic stuff) Amp: Rivera Chubster 55W (same amp I've had since '95) Effects: Don't really use anything other than what's built into the amp. I have a Crybaby combo Wah/Volume (works great for those Xanadu volume swells in the intro) that I use occasionally. Figured this is a rabbit hole that I'm not ready to get sucked into as I could see this being a large expense/frustration trying to seek the 'perfect' tone. I did buy a multi effect pedal thing but it's digital and just sounds fake. I do have Chorus/Flange/Envelop Filter pedals but haven't used them in years. Not playing Rush live, it doesn't really matter to me that the tone doesn't match Lerxst
  17. Thanks. I've been checking the website about once a week to see if there is any updates. Was assuming it would be postponed or cancelled but wasn't sure. Certainly would have been a bummer if it went on as schedule but couldn't attend due to not being able to get across the border
  18. Definitely a step forward from Fly By Night. It is such a raw honest album. Certainly not polished, but that's what I love about it. There is so much fine fretwork from Lerxst on this one where he really steps out and shines. Listening to this on vinyl with headphones on and listening to the music move back and forth through your brain during The Necromancer is top notch. Rush metal at its finest.
  19. My favorite albums are Caress Of Steel, Hemispheres, Farewell To Kings, and 2112. So very easy decision for me.

    Theremin?

The Echoplex is an effects unit to play an instrument through. The theremin is an instrument in its own right... http://youtu.be/K6KbEnGnymk If you watch old sci-fi movies from the 50s a theremin is often used on the soundtrack. Thanks for the education. Now I guess I gotta save up and get me one of those things.

    Theremin?

Never heard of a theramin before, but the echoplex (which Jimmy Page used) seems to do similar things. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echoplex
