  1. Technically this was yesterday... St. Patrick's Day Parade!!
  2. "Them boys is all comin' up on me, askin' me about mah sweet ride cuz it's all gangsta." http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/Horses/CIMG2885.jpg In all seriousness when I'm allowed to drive I drive a 2000 silver Honda Accord and her name is Evelyn and she has a Dude Abides sticker on her bumper. She is one sexy lady car.
  3. Favorite cult films (a lot of these are from underground video stores that only had them on worn out VHS tapes. And yes, they were listed under "cult classics"). This is Spinal Tap The Big Lebowski (hell, the Dude resides on the back of my car) Begotten Kids Gummo Pink Flamingos Bubba Ho-Tep Cannibal Holocaust The Gods Must Be Crazy Pink Floyd: The Wall (I would put that in the genre, mainly because we have theaters here that show it not to mention have a laser show) Welcome to the Dollhouse Palindromes Donnie Darko Reefer Madness The Goonies Blade Runner Harold and Maude Rushmore The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover Nosferatu the Vampyre (this movie genuinely gave me nightmares) Metropolis The City of Lost Children Edward Scissorhands Beetlejuice The Blair Witch Project (yes, this film freaked me out) 8 1/2 Women Films that should have cult status/may have cult status/are on their have to having cult status: Irreversible, Nightmare Before Christmas, Inglorious Basterds, Fargo, Pulp Fiction, Spaceballs There are probably more, but eh, I need to go to bed. Like I said, we used to have this cool video store and my friends used to let me rent movies for free or cheap and I used to watch some movies that made Eraserhead or Blue Velvet look like a kid's movie.
  4. QUOTE (CMWriter @ Mar 7 2011, 09:59 PM) I discovered one of the most brilliant, chilling, mesmerizing 115-page-long books ever... Night. Elie Wiesel. You want to read an account of how humanity can crack and break under enough pressure, but how some can persevere? You want to know just what it takes to break a man's faith in the blink of an eye? Night is so much more than just the account of a Holocaust survivor. It's about humanity at its best and worst. And discovering it totally made my day. I finished it in the span of - what, two-three hours? Did you read his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech? It's absolutely amazing and so incredibly humbling. He has other books out there, but I can't get myself to read them.
  5. I have new bangs (Zooey Deschanel bangs!) and I'm going to Ireland with friends!! So now I get to see Rush twice this summer and Mumford and Sons in April. Yay!
  6. I hate coming in here and complaining. I had an emergency neurology appointment. I'm having more seizures, baby seizures, that are basically precursors to a big seizure. So, no more riding for a while and we're increasing my medication. I'm just frustrated because I have no stress right now, nothing going on and we can't figure out why this is going on. It scares me because I'm supposed to go to grad school this coming fall and we don't know if I can handle it now.
  7. I have quite a few, but most recently this one has been stuck in the DVD player... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6Ycg6Y79jFg/S_qA2GRRvFI/AAAAAAAAAh0/HJ2xUpY-3kI/s1600/bubba-hotep-movie.jpg "BIG BITCH COCKROACH!" When I'm not so lazy I'll compile a list.
  8. Aside from wanting to throw the children in the theater out, this movie was absolutely amazing. Loved, loved, loved it! Everything about it was perfect, but I don't want to give out spoilers so I'll refrain from saying what I loved about it.
  9. Had a rough day yesterday, had several seizures, rode my friend's horse anyway and fell off and now I may have fractured my tailbone. On the bright side, I didn't break my hip (we thought I broke my hip as well as my shoulder). And now I can't ride for several weeks. Actually, I can't walk. And my medications are depleting my immune system so I'm running fevers for no apparent reason. I know I shouldn't whine, but it's really annoying.
  10. This should probably go in the pet thead, but I'm actually in the pictures. I am! Really... I swear... Damn us and our adorableness (and bipolar weather. The next day it was 28 degrees). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/Horses/CIMG2730.jpg She was licking my face. Guess I'm going to go have to get dewormed again. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/Horses/CIMG2729.jpg And this is just too adorable not to post. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/Horses/CIMG2724.jpg You can go sit on her and she won't do anything but think you're trying to snuggle with her.
  11. "Every kiss begins with k" Shoot me now. Please. I think my roommate has a gun.
  12. FRAK! I thought this was another Lemmy thread.
  13. Leontyne Price. No one has her voice and one will ever have her voice again.
  14. Jazz Fest, which means MUMFORD AND SONS!! Woot! And The Arcade Fire and some other sweet bands. I will be forgoing Kid Rock though.
  15. Now I need to see a bunch of these. I'm surprised Cannibal Holocaust wasn't further up, probably because it wasn't the film that was so controversial as the reception and repercussions. Anyhow, good picks (and I have seen the top five. I'm not sure I ought to be proud of that or not).
  16. QUOTE (cygnus_thegodofbalance @ Jan 23 2011, 04:50 PM) Are you guys seriously this uptight? It's a beach ball, for God's sake. I hardly think it would distract you from the show. Unless it wallops you in the head... not that I would know about that...
  17. It was Monsters, INC, until I saw Up. Like My Life as a Dog, Up is just... beautiful on so many levels. It's like the entire text of Derrida's Learning to Live Finally rolled up into a gorgeous film.
  18. 1. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (phew, long title) 2. Dances With Wolves 3. Gosford Park 4. The Seventh Seal 5. Young Frankenstein Eh, other films that sometimes roll up there are Passion Fish, The Cook the Thief His Wife and Her Lover, Fargo, Bubba Ho-Tep (probably the most underrated current cult film), Ninotchka, This Is Spinal Tap, The Awful Truth, and Delicatessen or some other pretentious foreign film. ETA: I forgot Paris, TX! Dammit. If you haven't seen that film, go see it! It's wonderful.
  19. And maybe Jazz Fest. We'll see.
  20. Due to reasons I don't want to get in, I will probably be forced to sell my Dublin tickets. If you are interested in purchasing them, please PM and I can discuss it with you via that. Otherwise they will probably be going on ebay. I did get tickets to the New Orleans show so I will get to see them, just way closer.
  21. The Dude did the Duke justice. Now to read the BOOK.
  22. This movie made me laugh so hard and I don't think that was the director's intention.
  23. I'm ready for more information about New Orleans.
  24. LEMMY! Okay, no, but in all seriousness, I did vote for him simply because, blah, all of the Ged crap is really throwing off my Rush vibes (and I do think Ged is reasonably attractive, don't get me wrong). But I wouldn't do Lemmy for fear of his pandemic of STD's, which I can only assume he is ridden with. Didn't he sleep with over a thousand women? But yeah, this thread is pretty class A+. I approve.
