I eat there once a week, religiously! double-double animal style for sure. but get it protein sytle to save the calories for the shake!!
  2. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jun 15 2012, 01:10 PM) I've been doing alot of complaining about the production of CA, much to the annoyance of some members of the board. I've been obsessing on the sound quality and it was ruining my experience of a new Rush album, one that I knew was something special. I even found myself bumming about it in the middle of the night Today at work, I downloaded it into itunes, plugged in my headphones, adjusted the EQ until I found the sweet spot (which was key), and dug in. It's the first time I've been able to just listen to the album without analysing the production and OMG, Clockwork Angels really is a work of art. This album was made for headphones (not earbuds). I am finally able to hear every little nuance, every little drum fill, everything. For the first time, almost every track raised the hair on the back of my neck, even Wish Them Well. For the first time Headlong Flight sent goosebumps down my spine. I have finally fallen in love with The Wreckers. This is their finest work since Moving Pictures without question. Today I am happy. I always knew this was THAT album, but again I was letting my OCD about the production ruin the experience. I still find the final master problematic but unlike Vapor Trails, it is fixable with proper EQing. Some people have already mentioned dropping out some of the bottom end and raising the treble which i did, but the key for me was rolling back some of the mid ranges. That fixed the harshness I was hearing with the guitars. If I can somehow recreate this on CD for the car, I'm golden. For those of you that have not listened on Headphones, I highly recommend it. It is a different experience entirely. Just adjust the EQ accordingly. Am I now pumped to watch them play this bad boy in its entirety in November side note: right as I was getting ready to post this I said to a co-worker "man, the new Rush album was made for headphones". His response: "YES! that way no one else can hear it!" i totally agree.
  3. to clarify my note above, i considered the best "closing" song rather than the best song. as noted, i like La Villa (and Natural Science) better but, they don't "close" their respective albums as well as The Garden IMO. The Garden really ties this tome together nicely at the end.
  4. QUOTE (Captain Avatar @ Jun 12 2012, 09:21 PM) As great as album-closing Rush songs tend to be, and as much as I love Working Man, La Villa, Natural Science, Vital Signs, Mystic Rhythms, and Everyday Glory, I think The Garden tops them all. It touches deep emotions that no other Rush song ever has. What do you think? I agree. There is something going on with this song that affects me like few i have ever heard. I think La Villa is a better song, but as a closer, The Garden really ties the album together nicely...and best.

    Unbelievable

aw man, good for you. i really need to open a cold one and give it a good once through on the headphones. i bought the cd today and listened to a couple of tracks in the car and i was like, meh.
  7. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ May 22 2012, 04:32 AM) Excellent record! For me, Beast through Powerslave was the ultimate. I like SIT better than SSOASS. Still, classic Maiden. i totally agree with this. i'm stoked to see the Maiden England tour with the Seventh Son featured prominently. when i chose a Maiden album to listen to (which i do almost as much as Rush) it's Powerslave, Number of the Beast, Killers, Piece of Mind, Somewhere in Time before Seventh Son. there's a lot of love out there for Infinite Dreams which i can't figure out but respect that folks really dig it. Clairvoyant is nuts and i'd bet big that it will be in the upcoming setlist.

    RUSH Cornhole

QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ May 17 2012, 05:24 PM) Yeah, I bumped it for no reason, except cornhole is fun huh huh, huh huh, he said cornhole.
  9. i had a similar conversation with my Pops about six months ago. he's 75 next month. i burned him a cd of all my favorite Rush songs. some old, some new and an instrumental or two! he really liked it. then said, i still like Van Halen better. now, don't get me wrong...i really like Van Halen and think the new album is one of their best. but i fear Pops has finally gone around the bend.
  10. i dig it. i dig jake e. lee's work, too. like others, i saw the tour and was impressed with metallica when they opened for him. so, it's safe to say that some of my appreciation for this record is nostalgic. it's not my favorite album...i think the first three were brilliant. but it's really good and a lot better than much of the drivel other bands put out there.

    RUSH Cornhole

i was visiting my inlaws in tennessee and my mother in law said they had some new neighbors. these particular neighbors just moved in from indiana and they like to play cornhole. she wanted to know if i had ever played it. well, i started giggling to myself. childish i know but i couldn't help it. i was thinking, "damn, old lady, coming on a bit strong aren't ya?" if she asks about playing Jersey Plug, i'm gonna start asking questions.

  15. QUOTE (ReGorLaTroy @ Apr 2 2012, 09:37 PM) Just had front row tickets to see Van Halen at the Consol Arena in Pittsburgh. They must have been in an inspired mood that night, because they just sounded so good. The new songs fit so well in the set and mixed well with all of the classic VH songs that you'd expect to hear. Diamond Dave's voice sounded much better than I thought it would...he even made some pretty impressive jumps and splits for a man his age. Eddie was just simply amazing...one of the very best, that's for sure. Alex's drum solo was fantastic...really made me wonder why he isn't higher rated in the arena of public opinion. Wolfgang was pretty solid...great interaction with his dad, which couldn't help but bring a smile to one's face. (Still missed Michael up there though...no disrespect to Wolfgang). Was flipping the coin on this one and really glad I decided to catch them live on this tour. Of course, the biggest surprise was how good Kool and the Gang was as an opening act...they are a really tight band, even if it isn't your cup of tea. All in all, it was a great trip down memory lane and a great chance to be 17 again! good review. i saw them the night before in DC and thought the show was great. eddie was fantastic and it was so great to see him in good form. he really shredded it. i thought wolfie was pretty good but i did miss michael's backing vocals. dlr did the "i forgot the words, i'll catch up at the chorus" bit and it was pretty funny. the setlist was all VH1-1984 plus a few from the new album. it was a great, great setlist of old skool favorites. my only complaint was that there weren't enough songs from the new album played...besides Tatoo, it's really that good.
  16. QUOTE (Snaked @ Apr 28 2012, 05:31 AM) season ticket holders for the various sports teams in different venues sometimes get first dibs on a very limited number of seats. what he said. i have season tickets at one of the venues for which tickets/pre-sales have not yet gone on sale. but, i have the same seats for every show (unless there is a GA pit) and they're already paid for.
  17. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 27 2012, 09:55 AM) i won't be attending the maiden tour but i remember them playing the prisoner on the 7th son tour. what a great tune live. are they playing it on the current tour? geezuz i hope so. adrian and bruce have both said that they intend to play "2/3" of the original Maiden England setlist. The Prisoner was on that setlist. it's the one song from that tour that i am dying to hear.

  20. QUOTE (psionic11 @ Apr 24 2012, 09:40 AM) Good catch, I noticed that right away as well. I think there are several reasons why they're favoring E minor lately: -- easy access to the root -- lots of open strings -- Geddy can hit notes that are high but not too hard to reach for him -- it's easier to make killer riffs in your "home" key -- homage to rock's home key For example, by singing in E minor, he can spend most of the time singing around the 7th, root, 2nd, and 3rd, where a lot of good melody lives. And yet he can belt out that high 5th that most of us struggle to hit but is easy enough for tenors. In HF, Alex is playing the Jimi Hendrix chord often, and with the open ringing E's, both high and low. Those fast riffs are interspersed with the heavy root note too. i wish i knew what the hell you were talking about. sounds cool, though.
  21. QUOTE (Powderfinger @ Apr 19 2012, 09:07 AM) I love vinyl and have a great collection. But I also have one of those crappy sounding retro Crosley record players with the built-in speakers. I want to upgrade to a real system of some sort, but can't figure out how to do it for less than $500 or so. If anyone has any advice on that please help me out. I check craigslist all the time in hopes that someone around my area is looking to unload a nice setup for 1-200 bucks. Anyway, I went into my local hipster/indie rock record store the other day where they never have anything on Rush. I was browsing the Yes section and suddenly Fly By Night comes on over the stereo system. I went to the counter and said "I can't believe you're playing Fly By Night!" This is one of those stores where I assumed I would be laughed at if I mentioned I'm into Rush and prog. The clerk said, "It just seemed like a good idea to give it a spin." He then informed me that someone recently came in and unloaded a nice stack of Rush vinyl. I went straight to the Rush section and found nice quality copies of FBN, 2112, Power Windows, MP, and Perm Waves. I could ony afford Perm Waves and MP. I now have those, along with Hemispheres, on vinyl. I ended up having an awesome discussion of Rush with the sales attendant. He had no idea about the new album coming out so I gave him the total rundown and he seemed really excited. I did my Rush duty for the day!!! Again, if anyone has any advice on turntables and if I could put a decent system together for a manageable price please let me know... i just conferred with my old man who recently purchased a new turntable. he's an audiophile and picked up a Rega RP3. Said it's about $900 US. knowing my pops, the kid did some research. he's probably got 5000 LPs and he was an opera singer back in the day. so there you have it.
  22. geezuz, i'm going with team 4. xanadu is my favorite Rush song but Circumstances is in my top 5. I love Camera Eye and Geddy's bass jam on Freewill was the tie-breaker for me.
  23. QUOTE (Your_Lion @ Apr 22 2012, 12:51 PM) QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Apr 22 2012, 02:46 PM) QUOTE (Your_Lion @ Apr 22 2012, 06:52 AM) QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Apr 22 2012, 01:30 AM) QUOTE (Your_Lion @ Apr 20 2012, 08:46 AM) I can honestly say that, from the first seven albums, there's not a single track that I don't love. Me too. Still Life and Prisoner were favorites of mine when I was a kid...still are. Up the Irons! Hopefully those two will be on the next tour, because they were both played on Maiden England I think The Prisoner will be played on this tour. I'm not so sure about Still Life though. I just got a feeling they won't do it but that's probably because I really wanna hear it. And yet Fear of the Dark will doubtless still be in there On That Metal Show last night, Adrian referenced a couple of songs that are always in the setlist such as "Hallowed and Fear of the Dark." Sounds to me like it will be in the upcoming set as well if it has acheived that status. I hope they play the Prisoner. As was noted above, it was in the original Maiden England set and it's one of my favorite overlooked Iron Maiden songs.
