  1. First song I remember hearing = Sugar Sugar by the Archies... My mum used to have a radio that seemed to play this song all the time. My dad had a record collection that was a mixture of classical, Jazz & Blues. First album owned = Junior Hit Parade (bought by my parents when I was about 3 or 4) First single I bought = Blockbuster by The Sweet First album I bought = Night Flight To Venus by Boney M First album to change my life around = Led Zeppelin II (owned by my older brother) This must have been some time in the late 70s and I began getting into rock music and was amazed by what a diverse genre it was. First big gig = Theakston's Festival in 1982 headlined by Jethro Tull (it was also the first time I saw Marillion Live) ... I don't think that my tastes have changed much since then to be honest. I still detest most of the drivel that's in the charts and I still don't care if what I listen to is percieved as uncool by others. I enjoy going on sonic adventures & trying new music (some I love, some I don't)... If you don't try something, you don't know what you are missing out on. The advent of the internet has been fantastic in this respect... finding new music is so much easier these days but I am nostalgic about the days of rumaging through record shops browing through L.P. sleeves and wondering what magic is contained within.
  2. Yesterday my copy of "P'dice" by Paul Cusick was delivered & it's a most excellent slice of proggy goodness. In fact even though I've only lived with this album for around 30 hours I think that it's the best prog album that I've bought this year (and it's been a very good year for the genre).
  3. Sorry, I'll have to sit this one out. Both bands are made of pure win.
  4. I wish my copy of P'dice by Paul Cusick would hurry up and arrive.
  5. I read last night that Phideaux is to release the final part of the trilogy that began with "The Great Leap" and "Doomsday Afternoon" early in 2012. This final instalment is to be called "Inferno".
  6. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Dec 21 2011, 09:50 PM) Camel is supposedly working on a new album! Hopefully more info next year... I so hope that is true.
  7. I also enjoy E.T.L. (even though my vinyl copy got stolen after only a week).
  8. The second release by DeeExpus - "The King Of Number 33" may well be the best prog album of 2011. Here's a link... http://www.kingof33.com/the-king-of-33.htm
  9. Marillion - The Answering Machine... I never really cared for the studio version of this track but have loved it everytime they have played it live. Also by Marillion - "This Strange Engine"... I love the song now but I rever really got into it until I heard the remixed version by The Positive Light.
  10. 2011 has been a great year for music but what are you looking forward to hearing in 2012? Personally, I'm already excited by the prospect of a new Marillion album, as well as the h/Barbieri release and Gazpacho's "March of Ghosts" (scheduled for release on 27th Feb).
  11. I only have "Sloe Gin", "Dust Bowl" & the "Live from Nowhere in Particular" albums. All three are excellent though.
  12. Prog: Tinyfish DeeExpus Edison's Children and on the heavier side: The Royal Cartel Godsized
  13. I remember buying Roy Harper's "Work of Heart" on cassette & it actually came with the whole album on side A and the other side blank with a blank label so that the buyer could record whatever they wanted on the B side.
  14. Badger Tame Impala Marah Clutch Klaatu
  15. I've got several hundred cassette tapes stored in boxes up in my loft. I have nothing to play them on but I just can't bring myself to throw them out (even though many of them are albums I now have on CD).
  16. Marillion for me too. I've already seen them countless times but I've never seen anyone else put on a better show. Okay, they might not have tons of lazers & pyrotechnics but their performances are always so intense & emotional.
  17. I've just pre-ordered "Not The Weapon But The Hand" by Steve Hogarth & Richard Barbieri. Also, "P'dice" by Paul Cusick should be getting posted out any day now.
  18. Lemmy has always insisted that Motorhead a Rock 'n' Roll band and nothing to do with Heavy Metal.
  19. The world's gone mad And I have lost touch I shouldn't admit it But I have. It slipped away while I was distracted I haven't changed I swear I haven't changed How did this happen? I didn't feel myself Evaporating...
  20. Check out the new Airbag album "All Rights Removed" if you liked the way Porcupine Tree sounded before "In Absentia".
  21. I've just thought of another... Todd Rundgren's "A Wizard - A True Star".
  22. The new DeeExpus album "The King of 33" is sounding very promising... http://www.kingof33.com/the-king-of-33.htm
