My situation was slightly different when I saw Rush for the first time on the TM tour, because I'm middle-aged and grew up with them, even had a high school friend into them, but then lost track of them for 19 years. When they came back to town in 2010, I thought of them as a band from my childhood I'd missed seeing. Still, similar to a young fan just coming on board, some of the songs that blew me away the most when I heard them live were the newer ones like Caravan and Far Cry, or ones I'd never known like Marathon. So, will there be (young) people who come on board for the first time with CA? Sure. If people came on board during TM, there will probably be some who missed that tour, but manage to go to CA and get hooked. I think as long as Rush is around, there will be people attending for the first time, and that usually starts one down this road we're on! Those people won't be thinking about Rush's ages while they're performing, either - the guys have a youthful exuberance that makes you forget how many years they've been a band!

Can't decide whether Headlong Flight or Caravan is my favorite. BU2B is not far behind.

Voted #5 - hard to tell without hearing all of CA, but the average of the three singles is higher than the average of S&A for me so far.

QUOTE (Captain Avatar @ Apr 26 2012, 08:36 PM) But, in the interest of your "what if" scenario, if I heard HF somehow, I would probably LOVE it, simply because it beats the hell out of just about everything else I ever hear played today. This. I've listened to modern bands that Rush fans like and haven't cared for any of them. I certainly haven't liked much chart music since the mid-80's. I'm even getting sick of 80's music because we listen to it at work. I'm finding there's very little music that intrigues me anymore, probably because I've gotten so wrapped up in Rush that no one else compares. I realize that I have to be careful not to burn myself out on Rush too! If I heard Headlong Flight, I would definitely say, "wow, what's that?" It would be a little heavy for my taste, as Caravan and BU2B were, but I would love Geddy's voice, the intricacy of what they're doing, the melody in spite of the heaviness, and THE LYRICS! I would want more

I said yes, but the more I think about it, the more I think I wouldn't have the stamina (especially outdoors in the sun), and probably wouldn't know/care for a lot of the bands who would be chosen to play with Rush.

I'm another black sheep - 8 for me. I love side 1, especially when played on the heels of Cygnus X-1, but as far as epics go, I like Fountain better...it's more relatable to my life at this moment, I suppose. Circumstances is great, but there are many other Rush songs I love even more. The Trees I am not crazy for, and I can't even really say why, though the change in volume over the course of the song makes it tough to hear (part of this is my hearing). La Villa is also a great song, but I'm very much attracted to vocals/lyrics and miss them in most songs without them, including this one. I do love my red vinyl of this album, though - it makes it fun to play in more ways than one.

QUOTE (anticlockwise @ Apr 26 2012, 01:02 AM) I've never been to Canada before, though I live just across the river. I would love to be there, but the passport fee is a bit steep for me at this time. Anyone care to share past experiences? I might be convinced yet... If your state has enhanced driver's licences for entering Canada, and you're close to needing to renew your license anyway, that can be a little cheaper way to go.

I'm still not done buying, so I'm all nerved up

How did the first round of ticket sales go?

I tried for Manchester and Philly this past week. Could only try in the first 15 minutes, and pulled up nothing but the far end of the arena in Music Today. Went for VIP in Manchester to at least get something on the floor, but 15 minutes in, I'm sure they're gonna be 15th row Ah well, I wanted to do at least one VIP - I'm one of those rare people who liked the swag last year. I didn't even buy tix for Philly, which I've now scrapped because RushCon got scheduled in the meantime, and Philly is a conflict. If I'd been able to hold out until 20 minutes in, that's when the floor seats opened up, and people got fabulous seats for regular price. I had to get back to work before that For gits and shiggles, I took a look at the Citi presale the next day, and could have gotten a bit better (decent lower bowl) for Philly. I may have to use this option for next week's buying. I sure hope I do better, because I'm pretty discouraged at this point. -
Will you make it to a 1st leg show?

QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Apr 24 2012, 09:12 PM) QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Apr 24 2012, 08:48 PM) Five shows plus RushCon (I have a lot of lost time to make up for). We're road tripping one week in Sept. (Manchester, Bristow, Pittsburgh) and one in Oct. (Bridgeport and Toronto with RushCon). We were going to do Philly in between those last two, but I couldn't get good seats, and RushCon get scheduled in the meantime, and I don't want to miss any of it. It'll be our first one! You're not gonna go to the Buffalo show? It probably has the cheapest ticket prices for the tour $91, $66 and $46.50 I know, this is killing me, but if I took the week off of the Buffalo show, I'd have had to give up either going to Toronto and RushCon, or going to opening night. It had a lot to do with how my work makes me structure vacation (I basically have to take full weeks). I would love to call in sick that day (if I didn't have to work Saturday), but they'd find out EXACTLY where I was -
We Hold On! That would have great energy live. Love Larger Bowl, but I dunno about live. Maybe Spindrift or Hope? I love Far Cry, but I'd like to hear something I haven't before.
-
I said yes, but like many here, I'd trade it if it meant getting a song that hasn't been played in a while, or ever.
-
I said 100%, because I know the majority of the words to all their songs, but I'll still screw up some lyrics here and there. But hey, even Geddy does it once in a while, and with the show so loud, no one will hear me mess up

QUOTE (NobodysHeroine @ Apr 24 2012, 08:45 PM) Oh, my Ged, I am extremely happy right now: I've got tickets for the Clockwork Angels tour! I'll be going back to the same venue that I had attended last year, the Palace of Auburn Hills. I'm in the upper level, right next to the stage on Alex's side. It may be on the opposite side of lovely Geddy, but I still have full view of the stage. I can still see Geddy way over there. I could cry tears of joy. Sweet! If you zoom in, I'll bet you can get some awesome pics, being that close!
-
Wait until Geddy walks out on stage with his head shaved!
-
No, but I've been trying not to listen to it too much, because I'm going to be hearing a LOT of it on tour, and I want those experiences to form a lot of my memories of the song/album.
-
I have it and like it. I don't have the greatest system for listening to records, so I don't notice anything wrong with the sound. Packaging and vinyl are nice quality.
-
Signals and GUP. My #3 and #2 (or maybe even #1) albums.
-
9. Love Spirit of Radio as it opened my first two shows Freewill's a classic and my HS friend quoted it constantly. I'm not as crazy about Jacob's Ladder as most people, but it's still great. Entre Nous is a very apropos song for my relationship. Different Strings is sadly beautiful - love Geddy's voice. And I will never go to the beach again without Natural Science in my head, nor listen to this song and not feel sand between my toes and the thoughtful state I've often been in on the shore. I suppose it's not a 10 only because there are several albums I love even more!
-
I'm guessing somewhere between $1,000-$2,000 so far. By the time the first leg of the tour is over, it'll be closer to $6,000-$7,000.
-
I and Mr. 1 of the 7 will be there! We've even scrapped the Philly show so we can attend the whole con - it'll be our first!
-
I'm in the first 15 rows, don't know where! I posted about a meetup in the meetup thread up above.

Will you check the setlist before your show?
1 of the 7 replied to fonzbear2000's topic in On The Lighted Stage
No, because I'm going to opening night! For my first show, I didn't look beforehand. For my second, I knew it, and that was cool too, because I could get my boyfriend used to the studio versions of all the songs before he heard them live.
