  1. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 19 2012, 03:49 PM) Let them pay for the cake and eat cake... Lemony cake with
  2. I figured they'd get a grand a night, but I guess 200-300 is still pretty damn good. So about 10k in expenses for the ensemble per show? (bus + food + salary) That's not bad at all.

    Tears......

I can't see how people can dislike this song.
  4. Overrated: Clockwork Angels Underrated: Halo Effect (one of the best songs on the album, hands down)
  5. Best-sounding Rush albums (IMO, in order): Permanent Waves Moving Pictures Power Windows Hold Your Fire Counterparts Snakes & Arrows
  6. It's not even my favorite on the album. It's alright in the context of the song, but The Anarchist has a kickass solo IMO.
  7. QUOTE (Rush-O-Matic @ Jun 16 2012, 10:35 PM) Holy crap. Rush is my favorite band of all time, and I love Clockwork Angels. But, you guys talking smack about Adele - wtf? If you've heard of her, and you think she's just another pop singer, you've lost your mind. The whole album was practically recorded with just a piano and Adele, occasionally adding drums / bass. The entire album is carried on the weight of her voice. It's fantastic. I would absolutely choose Rush over Adele to listen to, but to limit yourself and not recognize the brilliance of 21 is incredibly small minded. Yes, "Someone Like You" has been over-played. But, the yearning and raw emotion captured in that performance is remarkable. If you haven't heard of her, that is stunning, and I highly recommend you expand your listening limitations. I honestly don't know how you can exist in the world in the past year and a half, and not have heard of Adele. Seriously. She did not hold the top spot for so long because it's bubble gum pop Britney Spears teenage buying frenzy. She's the real deal. I dunno. People will like different things. She's a good singer; I don't think anyone is denying that. She's not my cup of tea, just like bluegrass music isn't my cup of tea. That vocal style isn't for me. But like I said, I can tolerate her far more than anything else on the radio today. (Dear God, if I have to hear that Scorpions ripoff song "We Are Young" again I will start smashing things.)
  8. I'll take the production of the late 70s/80s over today's awful production any day of the week.
  9. There's nothing that pops out to me when it comes to Adele - she just sounds like a typical pop singer-songwriter with a blues influence. I think she's definitely a cut above all that techno-hiphop-pop-fusion stuff, but she's still not my cup of tea. She's a good singer. Critics are going gaga over her anyway (and the awards just keep piling up for her) - it's not like she's struggling for acclaim like Rush were in the 70s.
  10. Still no guitar! Still no guitar! That's really the only one I can think of. Alex always seems to lose his guitar during Far Cry.

QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Jun 16 2012, 02:39 AM)QUOTE (Deckiller @ Jun 15 2012, 10:34 PM) To anyone who wants to sell their VIP tickets in the (now likely) event that the band tours with a string quartet to play the orchestrated segments of a handful of songs: How much? You also claimed on the other thread that members of this board would give up their tickets if a string section or orchestra would be performing with Rush. I'm going to ask again, who said that? I reread this entire thread and NO ONE is saying that. Stop it already. If you want to construct Strawmen, go to SOCN like everyone else. From the other thread: In response to your replies in this thread and the other one: I didn't construct strawmen. I merely replied to some of the postings (admittedly in a very harsh manner for me). QUOTE QUOTE (losingit2k @ May 21 2012, 09:14 PM) QUOTE (Karena @ May 21 2012, 07:19 PM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ May 21 2012, 06:01 PM)QUOTE (OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan @ May 21 2012, 05:53 PM) Please God, please let Lawrence Welk be the orchestra leader. Look we know that at least 4 songs have strings on them, 2 of them being completely string intros. The question is how many musicians were at the recording? I really think its just may be a string quartet at the Concert. They really wouldn't need anything else if they decide to go through with it and perform the entire album live. Then that's seven people performing on stage, four of whom are not in Rush. We should be informed ahead of time if that will be the case. Why? David Gilmour performed with a small orchestra last tour, he didn't make a major announcement! Why do you need an announcement? You'll know after the first show! I'm not interested in that so if I knew in advance I could transfer my tickets to someone who might better appreciate an evening with Rush and String Quartet. I would also hate to show up and be underdressed. QUOTE If Rush did the string thing I would gladly sell off my 2nd and 3rd row (Buffalo and Pittsburgh) seats and go see 2 additional Iron Maiden shows. Perhaps they were just kidding around, perhaps not. Some of us may have overreacted, but it is what it is - I'm just surprised that there is so much backlash against this idea. No hard feelings.

  14. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Jun 15 2012, 11:14 PM) QUOTE (Deckiller @ Jun 15 2012, 11:09 PM) Some of you really sound pathetic. Step back and think about what you're saying. You would GIVE UP YOUR SEATS if they bring a string quartet for a few relevant songs? Are you out of your mind? And you call yourselves Rush fans? (Some of you know that I NEVER call people out like this, especially on forums. But this is just too far. I can't believe what I read in this topic.) Just call it as it is. Pathetic ignorance. Rush fans call themselves open minded, but I see narrow minded views all over this place. Seems that way, yeah. I mean, I can understand people having an issue if they bring an entire orchestra for the entire show. But we're talking about a small group of strings to play the string parts of the CA songs and maybe a few oldies. What's the harm in that? You'll still get 2 hours of the band "kicking ass as a trio". Just go take a piss break or buy some expensive beer during those songs. I'll keep your VIP seats warm.

  16. "Bigger sounding"?! Presto and Roll the Bones are so thinly produced, man. But I do agree that they're better produced overall. Nice clarity and balance. They're just so weak!
  17. This interview makes me happy!
  18. This is why I wanted to see them opening night (that and no spoilers of course).
  19. The backlash to S/A is baffling and pointless. I don't know what you people have against it, lol.
  20. In life we take "two steps forward, one step back." BU2B2 succeeds because it IS a hiccup. The path to changing our outlook is not smooth; it's bumpy. We suffer setbacks that make us question ourselves and shake the very foundation of our being. Many of us choose to live and continue to build our own coping mechanism: our worldview. That's what this protagonist did. BU2B2 sets up Wish Them Well.

    Halo Effect

This song is fantastic - another song with hit potential (my only fear is that this and The Wreckers, while clearly stronger than any material that has been on the radio for years, will not make a dent because of Geddy's voice. His voice is fading fast. This might be the last tour ;_;)
  22. Yeah, the blues bridge is what keeps this song out of their top tier of songs, IMO - a tier that Caravan, The Anarchist, The Wreckers, and The Garden have reached IMO.
  23. 1. Moving Pictures (4.75/5) - extremely well constructed songs; Camera Eye is a bit overlong and Vital Signs is shaky at points. 2. Power Windows (4.75/5) - phenomenal production and emotion - some of the synths may be overdone. 3. Permanent Waves (4.5/5) - classic songs, one shaky song (Jacob's Ladder) 4. Hemispheres (4.5/5) - very consistent; title track is a bit too long and Circumstances is a bit too straightforward 5. Hold Your Fire (4.5/5) - great sound and some of my favorite tunes. The rest of the album is a bit inconsistent; some songs sound "childish" as someone pointed out. 6. Counterparts (4/5) - big sound, return to roots, some inconsistent songs. 7. Clockwork Angels (4/5) - fantastically consistent. Geddy's vocals are deteriorating and some of the songs are a bit too repetitive. Some of the band's best moments are here, and the strings are unbelievable. 8. Signals (4/5) 9. 2112 (4/5) 10. Grace Under Pressure (4/5) 11. Snakes & Arrows (3.5/5) 12. A Farewell to Kings (3.5/5) 13. Fly By Night (3/5) 14. Roll the Bones (3/5) 15. Presto (3/5) 16. Rush (3/5) 17. Caress of Steel (2.5/5) 18. Vapor Trails (2.5/5) 19. Test for Echo (2.5/5)
  24. Lock and Key is one of the band's best.
  25. The entire Carnies sequence is going to be EPIC in the novel. Kevin J. Anderson is great at that type of scene.
