  1. QUOTE (ioc @ May 5 2012, 02:11 PM)QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ May 5 2012, 01:34 PM) QUOTE Buying scalped tickets means less tickets available to the everyday patron. The band, venue, sometimes the state (making it illegal) doesn't see any of the extra revenue...you just pay more. But the band doesn't expect to see any of that extra revenue. They expect to get what their contract with the venue determines. Scalped tickets are the minority of the tickets sold. I don't think scalped tickets really make that much of a difference. Only a small percentage of fans cough up all that money for scalped tickets. Very true. In a way, that is exactly my point; because my point was more in line with the thought that all the extra money a person pays to a scalper simply goes to a middleman, someone who essentially serves no purpose in the transaction of cash for entertainment - unlike the band, venue, or government. It is completely parasitic in nature. Again, in the grand scheme, what's the big deal? Well, it's not...but that doesn't make it right. We create rules at all levels to establish fair play within society because, in part, we would rather have to abide by social conventions than risk the consequence of unfettered escalation. Scalpers operate outside those conventions and, therefore, are 'gaming the system'. That doesn't mean everyone should riot, it just rubs our fur the wrong way. I agree. Our society's economy is based on profit-making. No sense in complaining if two parties agree to a price, no matter how high it is. A deal is a deal. It comes down to the buyer, IMO. If the buyer refuses to pay all that money for the ticket, then the scalper is finished. Why put all the blame on the scalper if buyers are calling him all day for tickets? I play the StubHub game for Packer tickets. I try to wait until a few days before the game. That's when the scalpers start to sweat, and the prices PLUMMET....
  2. Scalping tickets is unethical, but on the "Unethical Scale", I wouldn't rate it very high. It's not like the scalper is really hurting anyone. If someone is desperate or stupid enough to play 4x or 10x the face value, then so be it. If you're willing to take the risk of getting stuck with tickets, then go for it. Even if you undersell other scalpers (charging 2x instead of 4x), you'll still make a profit. QUOTE Buying scalped tickets means less tickets available to the everyday patron. 3. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ May 5 2012, 11:54 AM) QUOTE (Snaked @ May 5 2012, 09:07 AM) Neil dislikes the act of touring. The daily grind of travel, wait, soundcheck, wait, dinner, wait all for the payoff of a couple hours on stage. Playing live is something he has consistently said he enjoys thoroughly. Bingo. He loves the PLAYING live. He also loves the motorcycle rides between shows. He just hates the daily routines of touring, and being away from his family for prolonged periods. Honestly, I think Ged and Alex feel that way too. They are just much less vocal about it. While touring, Alex goes golfing just to get out of the hotels, just to stay SANE.....
  4. QUOTE (presto123 @ May 5 2012, 03:52 AM)He doesn't dislike playing live at all. He says it's still one of the biggest adrenaline rushes you can imagine. It's everything else that goes along with touring and the grind that it becomes after a few months out that he's not crazy about. He calls it the Vortex. I think Geddy said he enjoyed the last tour immensely. If he truly didn't like playing live and touring, he wouldn't be doing it. I don't see him devoting so much of his time and energy to the band just to please Geddy and Alex. I don't see him doing it just for the money. When a guy speaks his mind and mentions that touring is a pain, why do so many people exaggerate it into something unreal? I would bet that a thousand musicians feel exactly the same way Neil does. Touring is a pain.
  5. QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ May 4 2012, 01:18 PM) http://chzgifs.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/funny-gifs-childhood-memories.gif Ahh......I remember that episode. Mother sent me outside, but it was too late. My soul was corrupted.....
  6. QUOTE (Lerxster @ May 4 2012, 09:01 AM) QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ May 3 2012, 01:23 PM) QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 3 2012, 12:57 PM)If you prod a lion, you're asking to get mauled. But I would never say someone who prods a lion deserves to get mauled. Now I disagree with this! Lions aren't sentient beings with free will and a conscience. They act on instinct. They WILL kill you. A few years ago, a guy in Kiev, Russia, climbed into the lion's exhibit at the zoo, expecting God to save him. Walked right up to the lions, he did. The lions killed him, and he did deserve it. Kiev is the capital of Ukraine, independant of the old USSR since 1991. Dammit, I KNEW that!! Brain fart on my part!!
  7. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ May 3 2012, 11:53 PM)The easy answer would be Penguin or Riddler but I don't know I think I'd like to see a villain that hasn't been portrayed yet. http://cdn2.mamapop.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Batman-Egghead-Kit-08-8-24-5-223x350.jpg http://www.bat-mania.co.uk/main/villains/images/mad_hatter1.jpg

  10. QUOTE (OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan @ May 3 2012, 04:39 AM) Welllllll...I live in FL and have done similar although in reverse....sort of. When my daughter was little I used to tie a Fisher Price wagon to the back of her Power Wheels Barbie Jeep. She would drive the jeep around the neighborhood and I would lounge in the back in the wagon while she pulled me around the neighborhood....It was good fun. Ahhhh Florida. Your daughter must be really, really strong....!!!
  11. OK, so we got a new plant manager yesterday. We've been without one for several months, and the company finally hired a guy to come in and take over. Let me give you a few snippets of what occurred during the first "meeting" with the NEW BOSS..... He got on two guys who were slightly late for the meeting. He got on a guy for closing his eyes for two seconds too long. He asked for questions and waited about one second before talking again. All plant radios were to be shut OFF during the meeting. His Two Commandments are RESPECT and ACCOUNTABILITY. After the meeting, he ordered everyone to push in their seats before they left the room. Now, when you consider that I work in a flour mill, where the workers are mostly foul-mouthed, uncouth, rude union workers, who have had almost complete license to say and do whatever they want for the past several years, you might guess that this new boss will be ruffling a few feathers..... Anyone else have any "New Boss" stories? Please, share the joy/horror....
  12. I know that the rules for cameras differ depending on the venue and event, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Rush at the Target Center. I have a Canon EOS Rebel T2i with a 250mm lens....and I would really, really, REALLY like to bring it with me!!
  13. QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ May 2 2012, 09:28 AM) This is one of the reasons why in Canada (not sure about the US) that a medical professional can't work on their spouses. It's a big transference issue and things like this can happen. On a side note... he's an idiot. Love can affect people in so many good and bad ways. It affects our judgement, our logic, and our behavior. If a doctor is operating on a spouse or lover, emotions can wreak havoc....even if the couple is in marital bliss, and everything is wonderful. They don't have to be fighting to have their emotions affect their professionalism. And during those times when there is hostility, breakups, and divorce, that love can turn instantly into anger and hate, and a doctor or medical professional should never go near the sig. other. Never. Not even the most trained and experienced professionals are immune from letting their emotions affect their actions.
  14. QUOTE (Alchemical @ May 2 2012, 07:05 AM)QUOTE (Deckiller @ Apr 19 2012, 02:13 AM)Headlong Flight is quite nice. I love the guitars/bass/drums, but the melodies are lacking a bit and the vocals seem overproduced to the point where I can't understand half of what Geddy is saying. Nevertheless, I still think it's one of their best songs of the last decade! QUOTE (Deckiller @ May 2 2012, 03:50 AM)2. Headlong Flight is one of Rush's weaker songs. Poor melodies/singing, inconsistent lyrics, poor production, and repetitive sections drag down some good guitar/bass riffs and drum fills. So HF went from one of the best Rush songs in the past decade to one of Rush's weaker songs in the span of 2 weeks? Boy you sure change your mind fast. Or, he could be saying that Rush's entire past decade has really, really sucked. Therefore, a good song from the past decade is still weak.....no, wait....now I'm all confused......oh, screw it.....
  15. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ May 2 2012, 09:06 AM) She sure is prettier than Maggie Gyllenhall! That girl's just unfortunate-looking. I have never heard it put that way before..... It sounds like, "She would have been so pretty....if not for the accident...."
  16. QUOTE (USB Connector @ Apr 29 2012, 10:15 AM)Absolutely nothing. They shouldn't take the spotlight away from CA. There is absolutely no reason for us to think that they're going to devote extra concert time to Signals. They played all of Moving Pictures specifically because that album was their watershed event. No other album has come close to doing for Rush what Moving Pictures did for them.
  17. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ May 1 2012, 08:57 PM)Maybe he was stupid to go to her for dental work, but he probably trusted that she'd put the personal thing aside and act professional. She didn't. Then again, maybe he had so little respect for her that he didn't consider the possibility of her having the courage to hurt him. Or, he was so full of himself that he didn't think she had any valid reason to hurt him. In any case, they are both idiots. He has no teeth, and she has no job....and she's most likely going to prison. I hope they're both happy.....
  18. QUOTE (Apollo @ May 1 2012, 02:26 PM)Honestly does anyone listen to side 2 of 2112 or Fly By Night? You bet your ass we do! I listen to side 2 just as much as, if not more than, side 1. On both albums. We all have different preferences, different likes, regarding Rush songs. It is not a competition. It never has been, and never will be. The "Song A is better than Song B" debates are just silly.......
  19. I think the upcoming novel, "Clockwork Angels", will be really bad reading. I don't like Kevin J. Anderson's work, and Neil's prose is rather lifeless. I hope they prove me wrong!
  20. I got 7th row, just off the floor, facing the stage. Excellent seats for those who don't want to be buried in the middle or back of the floor. Had to play with MusicToday for a few hours..... Not a good use of my time, but it had to be done. Oh, the tortures of being a Rush fan.....
  21. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Apr 30 2012, 03:14 PM)You don't think Caan's performance bordered on campiness? I probably used the wrong word and should've stuck with just the sense of humor. As I grew up in a predominantly Italian-Catholic family, I can tell you that men like Santino Corleone do exist. Caan portrayed the hot-headed eldest son perfectly, IMO. Flying off the handle, protective yet bully-like....and not too smart..... That hot Italian temper is REAL, let me assure you! I found other Mafia films to be pretty campy, but The Godfather seemed like real life to me.
