Lots of controversy around the light saber already.

The "controversy" is actually just petty whining by some fans who expect everything to be exactly the same as the previous films. :boo hiss:

No the controversy is it being impractical and pointless other than to "look kewl".

Two equally effective sabers:

I love that people argue practical in a completely fictitious fantasy world where you can actually contain a laser sword to begin with...or where fire and sound happen in space, or a space station that can blow up a planet with one pulse of it's weapon. Hilarious. Yea... Sometimes shit is just cool. What is wrong with that? It's fantasy and not reality by its very definition.

What a gaggle of silly gits.

Ok, a little perspective.

One, you do know this is a TEASER right? Teasers are there not to convey a coherent story narrative but to titillate with random visual bits. A full blown trailer, one that you're likely to see in May in front of The Avengers, will have a fuller story arc, dialogue, and a more complete narrative. Do know that there's a difference and that that's it.

Also keep in mind they finished filming like...three weeks ago. It's a minor miracle there's enough finished shots to even make a 30 second teaser at this point, not to mention nearly 90 seconds worth.

The improved visual effects alone have me hooked!

Yeah, and that's the main problem. The teaser seems to be just showing off the "special" effects. And if the prequel trilogy proved anything it's that "special" effects aren't special anymore.

The original trilogy is loved and revered because of the charcaters and mythology. I hope JJ Abrams realizes this and doesn't end up making this primarily a slick superficial special effects showcase. That's what bugs me about about this "teaser". They could've showed us a few things we might've really cared about rather than make it an effects showcase (and I'm disappointed that it seems mostly cgi).

What I did like about the teaser is that the filming-style seems to evoke the clean direct approach of the original trilogy and seems to lack the excessive stylistics that Abrams usually applies to his work (noticably no lens flare and overdone fast camera work), but it is a teaser so we will see. Although that shot of the Sith with the light/fire saber seems like it could fit in with a scene in a video game. Seems overly staged so perhaps it was intended just for the teaser.

And perhaps they included this new lightsaber in the teaser specifically to see what kind of feedback it gets. Maybe they're feeling it out.

The amount of hilarioty in here.

1.) The villian is DEFINITELY REVAN. No mistaking it.

2.) Cross Guard Sabers are canon. (f**k disney) (so are light clubs, dual phase sabers, light whips, and light foils.)

3.) The rolling droid was R2D2's original design

I'm no Star Wars "fanboi" but even I know that the design depicted in the teaser isn't consistent with the crossguards in the EU.

And nothing in the EU is "canon" in regards to the movies.

And? Are you saying it's a good idea to resurrect failed (never used in the previous films) designs just to pay some obsure homage that won't add anything to anything?

This fan-made teaser was way more effective at conveying a tone/mood than the real one. I saw this first and it made the real one sort of a let down.

So this one's total bs?

Yes it's bs. It's fan-made utilizing scenes from video games and other stuff. But it does convey a sense of power though, more so than the actual teaser.

And you want a teaser? This is a freakin' awesome teaser. They didn't have to show any actual footage to get people excited. What uncreative times we live in...

Why does it have to be in regards to the movies? The movie is just one outlet of the same franchise.

Just because you pulled that from Wookiepedia, doesn't mean there aren't other cross guard saber designs.

As far as I'm concerned, disney can suck it with their non canonizing of EVERYTHING outside of the 6 movies and Clone Wars,
