I was given this album by a girl I had a short relationship with in Christmas of '78. Didn't get into it at first, but within a few years, I grew to LOVE IT! Nostalgia for Ozzy's voice was part of it, the songs aren't early Sabbath, but still well crafted and tight! Keyboards adding additional eccenticies, neat stories and Tommy getting into different things...playing through this album now.....just played my Fave, "Paranoid" before this.

Good thread. Yes I really rate Never Say Die. Most fans and music critics write this album off as a complete dud but apart from a couple of tracks at the end of side 2 it's a great album full of good songs with an interesting vibe. I don't think it's as good as the first 6 albums or the early 80's Dio ones, but I like it better than anything from the Tony Martin era. I mention this because coincidentally I was looking at this list yesterday:

I think the album is just OK overall. The title track and A Hard Road are pretty good but you can tell by listening to it that a change in the band was needed.

Johnny Blade is a classic as is Junior's Eyes, and Air Dance has some of the most amazing Iommi guitar work of his career. Shock Wave is also a great track, along with the two you mentioned.

I dig it. No, it's not on par with the classic first 6, but it's solid.

And of course, this was the infamous tour where VH allegedly blew them off the stage during their trek.

I can't imagine going on after VH in 78..

I like this album a lot - maybe not as much as the first four albums and Sabotage - but it is definitely up there. I think there are a lot of great songs on there - Johnny Blade, Junior's Eyes, A Hard Road, Air Dance, Over To You - and it stands out as a unique album for them. I think the critics and naysayers have it wrong. Edited by Northerner

I must confess I never heard anything from it besides the title track. Will give it a go soon. That cover is awesome, the definition of vintage.

I've always enjoyed it. The title track alone is worth the money...plus it has a tendency to get stuck in your head...
