It's OK.

Dude...are you on bath salts?

Such fizz

Obviously you have no clue. However, we here at TRF strive to help those who can't help themselves. You fit into that category. Doesn't mean we don't adore you...we just know you're not playing with anything close to a full deck.

Shite, give the boy a break man, he's young and almost two or three years ago, he hasn't even heard of Yes. Nowadays he can't live without Tales From Topographic Oceans. I'm pretty confident that he'll discover and appreciate a lot more music in the coming years.

Some good paragons here.

I thought I posted in this thread but I guess not! I'm going to try and just pick one album per band. I see a lot of my choices in the picks already but here goes...

Rush - Hemispheres

ELP - Brain Salad Surgery

Symphony X - The Odyssey

Genesis - Genesis

Riverside - Second Life Syndrome

Spock's Beard - Spock's Beard

Dixie Dregs - Night of the Living Dregs

The Who - Quadrophenia

Starcastle - Starcastle

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Love me some Dregs but I'm not sure you can call them Prog. They're all over the map, so perhaps they're more 'fusion'?

Fusion = Jazz Rock = Progressive Rock

yup - and I even included Return to Forever, Mahavishnu, Billy Cobham, and The Aristocrats on my list - but I did forget one of my favorites:

The Dixie Dregs - Industry Standard (runner up: Night of the Living Dregs)

Thing about the Dregs is there's tinges of Rock, Southern Rock, Country, Classical and jazz. They are truely a band that defies catagorization IMO. But whatever....they're awesome. That would definitely be the kind of band I'd like to be in...you'd never get bored.

You've just explained why they are Prog.

I'll try to stick to ten. In no order:

Yes - relayer

Genesis - A trick of the tail

Rush - Hemispheres

Peter Gabriel -same (first one-car)

ELP - same

Marillion - Clutching at Straws

Camel - Dust and Dreams

Pink Floyd - Wish you were Here

Gentle Giant - Octopus

King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic

Honorable mentions (or ones I just forgot to put in my top ten)

Jon Anderson - Olias of Sunhillow (usually I put this in my top five)

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound

Ozric Tentacles - Jurassic Shift

Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother (kind of the bridge between their earlier psych wacked out sound and the later space prog that was to follow)

Rick Wakeman - The Myths and legends of King Arthur and the knights at the round table (awesome synth solos on this one)

Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte ( a must for all fans of classic Genesis and the best album the band never made)

The Flower Kings - Space Revolver

Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase

Yes - Close to the Edge (one of the most legendary prog albums ever and actually albums in general)

Rush - Permanent Waves

Camel - Snowgoose

Kansas - Leftoverture (yes they were prog you assholes :P)

All of these are must haves(more or less)for all prog fans especially symph prog fans.
