I was always facsinated by the trumpet. But not enough to give up my drumming, which started in the early sixties and while I listened to WJR, and later CKLW [pop] and in '65 when my parents bought me "The Chipmunks Sing The Beatles' Hits" I used my Mom's Tupperware and wooden Kitchen utensils for my 'kit'. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/BananaDrumset.gif

I only got it for my 'Collection' obsession, (which is over now partially because of RUSH's repackage policies). But with BEATLES Music I had a FANTASTIC teacher! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Suave%20Banana.png Edited September 15, 2016 by OldRUSHfan

(And if I had that to do over again and choose differently, I would!). But I also started playing the drums when I was 12- my older brother- one who turned me on to Rush- played, and so he turned me on to both Rush AND playing the drums. Heh heh. He had a blue Slingerland kit, just like the Slingerlands that Neil played, circa 1982, and that's what I started learning on. We got a Yamaha kit in '87, which I still have today, and I never knew what happened to the Slingerlands after that- I figured they were lost to the sands of time, somewhere...but then visiting another brother's house, a couple of years ago...he called me down into his basement, and there they were (!). I hadn't seen those drums for 27 or 28 years, at that point, and didn't even know they still existed in our family. And then I got to play them again. :) :Neil:

The condescending know it all ones, back handed compliments, holier than though, veiled meanings which the poster thinks is absolute proof of their genius. You know. It really irritates them when they can't bully you or if they don't quite understand you. Just chill and paddle your own boats right? I dont deal in absolutes. Or whatever. Smarmy depends on the day and how I feel about it I guess. If that makes me ambiguous, then I'll embrace it. But I usually answer questions with more questions so....what does smarmy (or equivalent) mean to you?

I made a comment about the obvious John Bonham influence. ;) I decided years and years ago that if I ever had the time and the means, I'd like to collect a bunch of different percussion instruments from all over the globe. So far, I have two. :sarcastic: An 11" conga (and a stand for it which has long since been lost), and a dumbek that I bought in Yellow Springs, a long time ago. It was made in Pakistan.

To know what YOU mean when you say a word, is EXCELLENT to me! Here is a quote that I LOVE! "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."- George Bernard Shaw I endeavour to disprove this, at least in my OWN world! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/banana%20screaming.gif My understanding of 'smarmy' would be: Of The Beatles, Paul was the "Smarmy'' one. Is that understandable? John was the 'Angst' guy, George was the 'Quiet, Spiritual' guy and Ringo was the 'comedian' guy.
