Hey, I still read this thread tongue.gif

Oh BTW, I went to see The Super Furry Animals last night, a friend of mine won free tickets to this show a while ago and gave it to me the day of the show. They were a bit mellow for my tastes, but the opening band, Caribou was AMAZING. They were a 3 piece from Dundas, Ontario, and did mostly instrumental music. For a lot of the songs, there were 2 drummers going insane, the music reminded me a lot in its abstractness with Radiohead. Plus they had these really creative cartoons that went along to each song, as if telling its own story. I would definatly recommend these guys.

Edit: On a side note, that myspace page isnt run by the band, but you can hear some of their music on it.

The Clever Bastards features two members from Heart, one from Rail, and one from the Paul Rodger's band. They are really great. I was surprised that I liked them as much as I did. They have great lyrics and all five of the members (The fifth one, Mike Curley, wasn't in a band previously) are really talented. I have a group on MySpace for them:

http://groups.myspace.com/cleverbastards and you can hear one of their songs "Never Too Late" which has a pretty good drum solo in it.

Band Of Horses - Recently signed to Sub Pop records (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Sleater-Kinney), this Seattle based band is getting ready to release thier first album in March. They have been playing The Funeral for the last couple of weeks on a local radio show in SF and I really like it. Arcade Fire and Shin fans might want to take notice to them. You can listen to that song on thier myspace page.

The Editors - An emerging band from the UK that has been around for about a year or so, they are also going to be releasing thier debut in March. There is a bit of an Interpol feel with them, but they can write some very catchy tunes. The singles for Munich, Blood and Bullets I enjoyed, you can also hear those songs on thier myspace page.

The Raconteurs - Brenden Benson + Jack White (of White Stripes fame) side project. So far I have only heard 2 tracks from what was released on a 7" UK Import last month, but they were absolutely mind blowing. Store Bought Bones is an exceptional standout, reminiscent of King Crimson and Yes style organs and lyrics. If the rest of the album turns out to be as strong as this single, then I could easily see them in competition for best album of the year.

Architecture In Helsinki

Aussies. Brilliant - Pink Floyd meets Bjork and Duran Duran, they go into a side alley and mug Frank Sinatra and the Brighouse and Rasterick Brass Band before finishing the night by jamming with Arcade Fire, Chic and Sparks.

Of Montreal

From Atlanta, Georgia, this is a gloriously sunny and harmonic sound from a group of great musicians with great lyrics to boot. Perfect driving music.

Bell X1

Irish band who began as Juniper. Their lead singer Damien Rice left to forge a highly successful solo career, they plugged away for years creating great music. Now, their new single 'Flame' is one of those songs that has the potential to take over the world.

The Arctic Monkeys 1022.gif

Won best newcomer at the Brit Awards last week, very refreshing to hear a band with a different sound, albeit similar to early Buzzcocks, it's punky with a slightly latin feel and the down to earth brit rock style of Oasis.

I love this band, the best debut album I've heard for a very long time, I love every single song 653.gif

And I will be seeing them on March 13 when they come by our fair city, fake tales and all. That show sold out in like a day, glad I got my ticket when I did. They definatly sound like thier music will translate well in a live setting.

A little update-

The album has a tentative release date of early May. They have already announced four shows in the UK, and plan a world tour following the release. The other thing- Jack has stated at least 5 times he doesn't want anyone to consider this a side project of his. He claims that it is an entire new band, and will most likely not run along side The White Stripes.

I have a buddy who lives in Fort Worth who does amazing finger-picking. He's also a huge Rush fan. There are some tracks here on MySpace.

He plays around Texas quite a lot, if you live there. His name is Darrin Kobetich.

Wolfmother

Australian rockers with a heavy Sabbath influence, but incorporating elements of prog. With songs like "White Unicorn", "Minds Eye" and "Dimension", how could you go wrong.

They sound very interesting, and are playing T In The Park and Oxegen over the summer.

Listening right now. I actually like.

This was the next it band that our radio station was promoting, I kinda enjoyed them, but I think they were built up to be way more then they are.
