Hey Duff, is that you on the guitar, in the background of the new video?

That's called "Final Gasp Blues". Garden variety delta blues. Fitted perfect (in my mind) with that ancient bush-hogger

Is it you playing?

No it's not me. It's taken from my Video editor, which has an unlimited (it seems) number of copyrighted music that I can use without worry. That particular piece is a traditional blues progression, which isn't that hard to replicate. I have original music that I can use, however using it is giving me some pause at this point.

Nature beat TM yesterday. 2 freaking morels...that's it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgunir2ATqI

In the 5:15-5:20 range, was that from pigs who had been rooting around?

Hard to tell. Found no scat traces. Either deer, wild hog, bear, or Appalachian Snipe.

:) Love the tiny Salamander

and that looked tasty right at the end there

"Toofless" looked almost dead there for a minute. We found 2 more later that day. My youngest has a vived imagination, and is more of the outdoorsy type. The oldest, Wylie, is a trooper though I must admit. He likes the mushrooms more than Jake, so more for him I suppose.

Cool video but one slight correction. It's a Garter Snake not a Racer. No biggie. :) I'm amazed at all the mushrooms and fungus you have growing around there. That's a pretty creek as well.

I can't stop watching that show. It's hypnotic to see such Americana. Waiting for a snapping turtle to get the best of him. Praying for it

Snapping turtles are much scarier than sharks! There's a big one at the aquarium where I work and its mouth/beak is powerful.

Have fun. You're the second person here at TRF, besides SWS, that forages for morels. I had to make videos just so people could see the fun, and the challenge of hunting these bad boys. Michigan is a HUGE morel state...youtube has morel freaks galore from Michigan! Check them out

There's a local morel club here and from what I can gather, the season doesn't really start until the end of April/first of May.

Call and see if you can go out with them. It'll be good for ya sister! You'll find the company engaging and willing to help you get the knack for it.

Here in the mountains of the south, it starts late March with the dark caps. However, i'm one of the few that really go out looking at that time. Most hunters I know start around mid April. I look for an excuse to get out and forage. I've seen them as early as March 5th--my birthday.

Contact them and let them know you're interesting and I'll bet they'll be more than accomodating to a newbie!

They are truly pre-historic aren't they? To just look at them is an amazing experience up close. There's a pond that I'll show you guys that is home to one that's at least 50-70 years old. Thing is huge!
