JohnRogers
Richard Hammond's 10 favorite "muscle cars".http://www.topgear.com/uk/imageresize/image.jpg?OriginalImageUrl=%2Fuk%2Fassets%2Fcms%2F22dbc88e-16c2-42c6-8887-affbe8bca5a9%2F670x377Image.jpg%3Fp%3D090715_05%3A13&Width=615&Height=347 It's no secret that I love muscle cars. Deciding on a favourite is about as easy as getting one through a London width-restrictor - there are just so many classics out there. Anyway, I think I've got it down to 10.My obsession started back in the 1980s, when I spied an orange Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, huge wing blasting skyward. I'd never seen anything so cool. I was so taken with the Fastback Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt, that I ended up buying one, and still have it now. I guess these cars' presence in the great movies I watched as a kid has got something to do with giving them such an aura. Neither are traditionally beautiful cars, but they have a sense of purpose, of contained energy. Modern muscle cars simply can't capture that. The Merc SL65 Black, for instance: it lacks the subtlety of these American greats.

It has a black bonnet and all bonnets should be black by law. Edited June 29, 2015 by JohnRogers
